Quick Look

Wagons are versatile, handy, and great family cars, but they aren’t popular picks due to their hefty appearance. In comes the crossover market, and Audi has made a serious competitor, the 2014 Audi SQ5. At its core, it’s an Audi, you can expect style, power, comfort, and luxury all in this neat package marked by that special “S.” The 2014 Audi SQ5 comes back this year with minor improvements to continually make this crossover better than the last.

Full Review

Style wise, you know what you’re going to get with the 2014 Audi SQ5. This crossover features the signature big front grille, the four circles up front, the special “SQ5” badge, and squared-off LED daytime running lights that give the car its own signature look.

Coming to the side, the 2014 SQ5 comes with 21-inch wheels which have the SQ5 badging behind stuck onto the brakes. You also get a satin silver finish on the mirrors on each side, a signature look on the S class. In the back you get dual exhaust twin finishes to give the car that subtle, sporty look and complete the overall handsome aura that this crossover carries.

So, what’s going on under the hood? Here in the 2014 Audi SQ5 you get a supercharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine. This machine is good for 354-horsepower and 360 pound-feet of torque, and it’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. You can switch between sport mode and normal mode with this crossover. Normal mode makes the vehicle as fuel efficient as possible, while sport mode keeps the car revving towards the red line a little longer.

When we test drove the 2014 Audi SQ5, we liked the manual option when cruising around the city. We found the ride much smoother than sport mode which tends to hold the gears a little too long for our liking. The comfort and manual mode were our top two picks throughout the test drive. Either way, the power from the engine is routed to all four wheels via the Quattro all-wheel-drive system.

Step inside the 2014 Audi SQ5 and you’re treated to the level of luxury that you would come to expect from this brand. The seats are comfortable and have SQ5 stitching on them. Everything inside the car is within easy reach and the displays are all nice and crisp. You get the amazing infotainment system and a wonderful sound system to go with it, both of which are super easy to use thanks to Audi’s intuitive controls. You also get a sporty flat-bottom steering wheel which reminds you what you’re driving in case you missed all the “SQ5” badging throughout the entire car.

So how does the 2014 Audi SQ5 drive? We know that it’s luxurious, and we know that it’s comfortable. The driving part is important because it has that “S” badge in its name. Any time an Audi wears an “S” in its badge, it’s coveted and lusted after by many folks across the entire planet. To apply it to a crossover, at first glance, it seems a little bit crazy. A lot like other “S” vehicles from the Audi line-up, there’s more than meets the eye. This is why people like “S” badged vehicles; they look sophisticated and modest yet hold enough power to beat anyone to the next set of lights. The Audi driver is calm, cool, and collected, but has the capability of taking on a raceway.

With the 2014 Audi SQ5, you also have the ability to totally customize your driving mode, you can make the steering a little loser or tighter as you please, and you can even adjust your engine noise to make it more or less sporty. You can really tailor it to how to want to drive. This amazing crossover can impressively tackle any terrain and can even go off-roading if that’s what your heart feels like. It’s a hidden gem amongst crossovers that deserves a little bit more attention.

It’s fun to drive, it’s comfortable, it’s luxurious, and it looks good on the outside, it’s hard to find any downfalls to the 2014 SQ5. However, a big hump that this car faces is its hefty price which starts at around $50,000. The more affordable crossover cars such as the Mazda CX-5 have a lower price tag but of course, don’t offer anywhere near this level of luxury and they are not as sporty. Fortunately so, Audis come well-equipped for the most part and have convenient packages to choose from.

Altogether, the 2014 Audi SQ5 is an amazing luxury crossover that will get you around while driving in style. Check out the SQ5 today and find out what all the rage is about!

Interiors and Special Features:

The 2014 Audi SQ5's interior is just as elegant as the SUV's outer skin. In fact, one might say the 5-passenger cabin dazzles even more with its emphasis on technology and, by default, bevy of buttons. Unlike some competitors, leather is standard even on base models, and 3-zone climate control will keep occupants front and back at the proper temperature. The shift lever and its surrounding cadre of buttons, knobs and dials would look at home in a private jet, while the optional wood grain lends a more classic feel. The SQ5's roomy rear seats fold in a flexible 40/20/40 arrangement.
