The 2014 Audi S7 is described as a “four-door coupe,” but in reality it’s just a sedan with coupe-like design. And with a 4.0-litre twin turbocharged V8 that can generate 420 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, it can also be described as the beefed version of the Audi A7. However, no matter what to description you stick to it, it’s worth owning.

The 2014 Audi S7 is a “four-door coupe” that’s really a four-door sedan in disguise. Why is it called a coupe? Because it values luxury and premium style over functionality. There’s really no such thing as a four-door coupe. Basically, if you can afford, say, the Mercedes CLS, you’d get that over the E-Class. Likewise, if you can afford the BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe, then you’d buy that over the 5-Series. In other words, the S7 is the ideal sedan that we all wish we owned – and only few of us do. So, if you can afford this car and you like the way it looks, definitely check it out!
On the outside, the 2014 S7 features a huge hexagonal grille framed by a set of LED running lights, as well as the standard Audi body lines. However, its most distinguished feature is the roofline that cuts low over the back windows and goes even lower when extending to the back. It looks fantastic, but the back seats lack proper headroom. The overall coupe-like design endows the car with excellent aerodynamics, even though its styling is entirely consistent with the other Audis.
On the inside, the S7 is a tightly constructed affair as it comes with top-quality materials and clean finishes. You also get to enjoy Audi’s Multi Media Interface (MMI) system controls entertainment, communication and navigation functions, which you can use via a dash-mounted pop-up screen. This system provides user-friendly menus, sharp graphics and a touchpad that increases usability. Don’t like touchscreens? Use a control dial with buttons on the centre console. Everything is simple and responsive – as it should be. But, if you want more, the S7 has the Audi Connect Internet suite. It offers in-car 3G WiFi, Google Earth data for the navigation system and Google search.
In terms of comfort, the S7 offers standard sport seats or optional multicontour comfort seats, which provide plenty of support for longer trips. But, as we already mention, backseat headroom is cramped because of the car’s slopping roof, though there’s definitely plenty of legroom. Its hatchback design allows the S7 to have a fairly large trunk, with a capacity of 24.5 cubic feet, and if you lower the back seatbacks, you can get even more space.
Under the hood, the sedan comes with a 4.0-litre twin turbocharged V8, which can produce 420 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. This is the one feature that sets this vehicle apart from the Audi A7, which comes with the weaker V6 engine. The standard transmission on offer is a seven-speed automated manual, which allows the car to shift gears effortlessly.
All-in-all, the 2014 Audi S7 is the beefed up version of the A7. Its engine is more powerful, while its outward appearance is more likable. We highly recommend this one, if you can afford it.

| Power and Performance: | Powerful and distinctive are words that describe the Audi A7's styling, but they're apt also for its performance. Smoothly paired engines and transmissions let it build speed with a tremendous sense of confidence. It's engaging, even before you get to the S7 and RS 7 power rangers. The standard engine in the A7 is Audi's 3.0-liter supercharged V-6. In the hatchback, it's rated at 310 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. In practice, it's a gutsy powerplant that's been muted from its first applications. Lots of low-end torque helps it accelerate the A7 to 60 mph in about 5.4 seconds, while it also achieves up to 28 miles per gallon on the EPA's highway cycle. | Interiors and Special Features: | The S7's interior is typical Audi, as it's handsomely designed and tightly constructed with excellent materials quality throughout. Audi's familiar Multi Media Interface (MMI) system controls entertainment, communication and navigation functions via a dash-mounted pop-up screen and a control dial surrounded by buttons on the center console. The system boasts logical menus, crisp graphics and a touchpad to increase functionality, although we still prefer BMW's iDrive or Mercedes' COMAND for overall ease of use. The S7 is also equipped with the Audi Connect Internet suite, which includes in-car 3G WiFi, Google Earth data for the navigation system and simplified Google search for POIs. It sounds a bit over the top, but proves very handy if you need to get some work done on the road and there's no Starbucks in sight. However, the Google Earth feature is an example of form over function, as the "enhanced" map can be more difficult to comprehend at a glance than a conventional navigation map. Whether you stay with the standard sport seats or opt for the multicontour comfort seats, we're confident you'll find them supportive during long trips and spirited back-road runs alike. But due to the S7's aggressively raked roof line, backseat headroom is tight for average-to-tall folks. Legroom is abundant, however, and there's something to be said for the comfort of the twin rear bucket seats versus a traditional three-across bench seat. The A7's hatchback design permits easier loading of larger items that just won't fit in the trunk of a conventional sedan.
