Full Review

The Audi TTS is the upgraded trim model of the standard Audi TT, with the 2014 model introducing standard options that were previously optional. The two-door sport car can be either a coupe or convertible and in a single well-equipped trim line. The TTS is in its second generation that was first released in 2008, but this year, it will be the last model run as a redesign is coming for the 2015 model year. This car is the perfect fit for anyone looking for a fun and powerful small-luxury car, but doesn’t have many passengers. It is made with high-quality materials and has a powerful engine. The TTS is in a tough competition in its class, but its distinctive look and great drivability will put a smile on the face of any driver.

The Audi TTS has one of the most distinct shapes of any small luxury sport car. It doesn’t take the trademark four-ring badge for onlookers to know that this is an Audi, but they’re placed on both the back and rear of the car anyhow. The curvy roof slopes dramatically towards the rear, giving this car an aerodynamic shape. It has aggressive lines and bulging hood that give it stronger road presence. The convertible model comes with a triple-layered soft top that retracts in just 15 seconds. The standard 19-inch alloy wheels with summer performance tires allow this car to stick to the road for great handling and a sporty feel. The automatically retractable rear spoiler and LED daytime running lights add sporty details to this stylish car.

The cabin of the Audi TTS has high-quality materials and build quality that buyers have come to expect from Audi. The interior has full leather upholstery and sporty details such as a flat-bottom steering wheel. The controls are well-placed and are relatively easy to use, with the exception of the navigation system’s control knob that has an awkward placement, making it difficult to use. The cabin interior is a decent size for front-seat passengers in both the four-passenger coupe and two-passenger convertible. The coupe, although it claims to be a four-passenger car, would hardly fit a child in the rear seats, let alone two backseat passengers, and is best kept for purses or small cargo. The trunk room is quite ample in the coupe, although it decreases in the convertible. Overall, the interior of this vehicle offers comfort for up to two people and is a fun ride for coupe or top-down driving.

The TTS is a fun car to drive thanks to the addition the “S” to the “TT” part, which brought with it the standard sporty features that really upgrade this car in style and drivability. Sporty upgrades from the standard TT models include performance tires, better brakes and an adaptive suspension. These features make for better drive quality through better handling and a smoother ride. The upgrade options that are available on this car also upgrade the look of the TTS. The Black Optic Package adds cool exterior details, including an upgraded grille and wheel with a titanium finish.

Powering the Audi TTS is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 265 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The car comes standard with all-wheel drive and a six-speed automated manual transmission. The TTS scoots from 0-97 km/h in 5.3 seconds, which is respectable, but not the quickest of the class.

Overall, the 2014 Audi TTS is great to scoot around in or go on scenic cruises. It has good performance, decent fuel economy, a unique look and is a pleasure to drive, making it a great option.

Power and Performance:

Power for the 2014 Audi TTS comes from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 265 hp and 258 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automated manual transmission and all-wheel-drive system are standard.

In Edmunds performance testing, the TTS coupe went from zero to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds. That's a respectable time, but many competing cars are quicker still. EPA-estimated fuel economy, though, is excellent at 26 mpg combined (22 city/31 highway).

Interiors and Special Features:

As a 4-passenger Coupe or 2-seat Roadster, the 2014 Audi TT offers a beautifully built and elegantly designed cabin. The flat-bottomed steering wheel and driver-friendly dashboard project a sporty feel. The TT Coupe's rear seat is best suited for small children or professional contortionists, but it folds flat for extra luggage room and combines with the hatchback design to provide a high level of practicality. Most of the TT's controls are straightforward and intuitive, though the optional navigation system's control dial is mounted on the dash, which feels ergonomically off target.

Safety features:

Standard safety features on the 2014 Audi TTS include antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, front-seat side airbags that protect the head and thorax, and front knee airbags. Rear parking sensors come with the optional navigation system.

In Edmunds brake testing, a TTS came to a stop from 60 mph in 113 feet, an average distance for this type of car with summer tires.
