The 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD is one of North America’s favourite pickup trucks currently available on the car market. Chevrolet went back to the drawing board this year to improve the handling on the vehicle and improve the overall driving experience inside this beastly ride. The new engine also gives the car a little more roar and rumble when you step on the gas. The 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD is a lot of fun to drive and is a pickup truck that is sure to work as hard as you do.

The 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD has come back as a wonderful pickup truck with improved handling and acceleration. Its predecessors were notorious for their clunky and sluggish transmission, but Chevy has addressed this issue and revised the truck as necessary. The 2014 Sierra 2500HD definitely isn’t a truck that you want to challenge tight corners with. The car performs best at lower speeds as it was designed with towing in mind and has the numbers to show it.

Get inside the 2014 Sierra 2500HD and you’ll see that GMC has really stepped it up and created a much nicer interior for the vehicle. Everything feels high quality and there’s minimal plastic. This pickup has a lot of luxurious options that you usually find in high-end vehicles these days. These features include heated and cooled seats, navigation, lane departure alert system and several other wonderful bonuses.

What we were most surprised about in the 2014 Chevrolet Sierra 2500HD is the amount of noise in the cabin – there’s almost none! This pickup’s drive is so smooth and quiet, you almost feel like you’re driving a hybrid. The new in-lay door design settles inside the body of the car instead of going over the roofline. This helps to reduce the amount of engine and wind noise which enters the vehicle, allowing for a much quieter and pleasant drive.

Compared to the Chevrolet Silverado, the body of the 2014 Sierra 2500HD is completely reconstructed in order to allow for the car to feature this brand new positioning of the car. The ride in the Sierra is significantly quieter than the Silverado, so if you’re hauling your equipment across a fair distance, you may want to lean towards the Sierra.

The engine in the 2014 Sierra 2500HD features seamless cylinder deactivation which actually disables or activates cylinders in the engine as needed. When you’re cruising around running errands, you don’t need to be using all that power (gas) that it’s capable of. However, when you give it a kick and start to push it, the full capacity of the engine is activated and performs exactly how you need it to. The system has been designs extremely well and runs smoothly when you drive the car. There’s no longer a clunky rumbling under the hood, the engine is refined and well-tuned to take on whatever task you throw at it.

The 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD is a great pickup truck that works hard to get any job done, no matter how tough it is. If you want a car that’ll help you get through even your toughest job, you can always trust in the 2014 Sierra 2500HD to help get it done.

Power and Performance:

The standard power plant for the 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD is a 6.0-liter V8 engine that produces 360 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic is the only available transmission. There is also a bi-fuel option for this engine, allowing the truck to run on either gasoline or compressed natural gas (CNG). When operating with CNG, power output drops to 301 hp and 333 lb-ft of torque.

An optional turbocharged 6.6-liter diesel V8 is the engine of choice for those who plan on towing or hauling on a regular basis. It produces 397 hp and 765 lb-ft of torque and is mated to a beefier six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control. In Edmunds performance testing, a Sierra 2500HD with this engine accelerated from zero to 60 mph in a truly quick 7 seconds.

Rear-wheel drive is standard for all models, with four-wheel drive optional.

Properly equipped, a 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD can haul up to 3,670 pounds of payload (4,212 pounds when equipped with a special high-payload Performance package). It can tow up to 13,000 pounds with its standard ball hitch and 17,800 pounds with a fifth-wheel connection.

The 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD manages to provide a comfortable ride along with its strong work capacity, thanks to its stiff frame and a suspension that can not only handle higher loads but also smooth out rough roads. When towing a trailer, the strong diesel engine helps accelerate this big truck with authority. When descending a grade, the exhaust brake also works with well-timed downshifts from the transmission to help out with vehicle stability.

Interiors and Special Features:

The 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD Work Truck (WT), SLE and SLT interiors are designed to function seamlessly with a wide range of conventional truck duties. But despite the cabin's utilitarian intent, most trims come nicely appointed with adequate materials' quality and fit and finish. While it lacks the bounty of storage bins and compartments found in the Ram and Ford HD trucks, the 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD nevertheless has a number of useful storage ideas for everything from laptops to the errant tool. On the luxury front, Denali variants feature a distinctive brushed-aluminum trim, leather upholstery and soft-touch materials on the upper dash.

GMC Sierra 2500 models are available in regular-cab, extended-cab and crew-cab body styles as well as four trim levels: Work Truck, SLE, SLT or Denali. SLE models include a CD player, air conditioning, power windows and driver's seat adjustment, while SLT trims feature heated front seats, Bluetooth connectivity and fog lights. Top-level Denali versions include ventilated and 12-way power-adjustable front seats, a Bose premium audio system and power-retractable side mirrors. Occupant safety consists of six airbags, a full complement of electronic stability systems and OnStar emergency/concierge services.

Given the Sierra's limited rear visibility, the optional rearview camera tops our list of recommended add-ons. Also on the menu is a feature-laden convenience package comprising power-adjustable pedals, rear sonar proximity sensors designed to help guide you into tight park spots with audible warnings, and a slam-proof EZ-lift and lower tailgate (SLT only). Seeing as the available touch-screen navigation unit is a bit long in the tooth, technophiles who want the latest and greatest in multimedia will be better off with the F-250's optional MyFord Touch infotainment system.

Safety features:

The 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD features antilock disc brakes, stability control, hill-start control and trailer sway control as standard. Front side and side curtain airbags are available as an option. Power-adjustable pedals and rear parking sensors are standard on the Denali (optional on others), and a rearview camera is available for all models. OnStar subscriptions include automatic crash notification, on-demand roadside assistance, remote door unlocking and stolen vehicle assistance.

In Edmunds brake testing, a 2500HD Denali came to a stop from 60 mph in 144 feet, which is a long distance, but typical for a heavy-duty truck.
