Quick Look

The 2015 GMC Acadia is one of the best vehicles in the SUV market, offering a spacious cabin and plethora of special features. Its major issues include generic exterior design and an underpowered engine. The former is particularly disappointing since the 3.6-litre V6 on offer here can only produce 281 horsepower – seven horsepower less than the 2014 model (which wasn’t too impressive either).

Full Review

The 2015 GMC Acadia isn’t all that different from the 2014 model, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing since that car was already excellent. With this iteration, you still get a roomy cabin, a host of features and a very decent engine. The SUV market is definitely a crowded one, so when a car manages to stand out from such a dense crowd, it’s quite an achievement. The question is then – does the new Acadia stand out? Let’s find out, shall we?

At a glance, this SUV looks almost the same as it did in 2014. However, GMC has made a few alterations here and there. Those include a new chrome grille, revamped front and back fascia as well as new taillights and wheels. The front is still as aggressive as it’s ever been – and the addition of chrome has made it even more so. You’ll also find a set of familiarly hefty LED daytime running lights, which add a certain amount of visual weight to the design. The look is still a touch too generic, since it’s all too similar to the likes of the Chevy Traverse and Ford Explorer.

On the inside, things are as fantastic as they’ve been. You can still fit in up to eight passengers, if you get second- and third-row seating benches. The front seats are the largest of the bunch as usual, but the other two rows are not too either. Even the third row will make adults feel comfortable, which can’t be said of all SUVs out there.

Some of the features to look out for include OnStar Directions and Connections technology along with a rearview camera and back parking sensors. Other features are a power liftgate, auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated power-adjustable front seats, remote garage door opener, memory for all the settings as well as front and rear air conditioning with tri-zone climate control in the higher trims.

The standard engine under the Acadia’s hood is a 3.6-litre V6, which can produce 281 horsepower – seven horsepower less than what the 2014 version makes. If you want to retain those seven horsepower, your best bet is the 2015 Acadia Denali, which comes with a 288-horsepower V6. Both engines are accompanied by a six-speed automatic transmission, with front-wheel drive being standard. The fuel economy is not bad either – especially for an SUV.

In the end, the 2015 GMC Acadia is a truly marvelous vehicle, even though its engine is somewhat underpowered. Basically, if you’re in search of a high-quality SUV, then definitely give this one a look.
