The 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport offers everything a luxury SUV should offer – from two powerful engines to premium exterior design. The best part, however, is the overabundance of special features, which include an eight-inch touchscreen display in the dash and audio system with Meridian sound.

The 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is definitely more provocative in terms of design than other midsize luxury SUVs, including BMW X5 and Audi Q7. But, to be perfectly fair, this car succeeds on other levels as well, providing two phenomenal engine engines, awesome interior design and more quality features than you can count. Okay, the last one is a hyperbole, but you get the point. This car is a real treat.

One look at this SUV and you will be absolutely blown away by its bold and sexy design that trumps everything in this segment. But, the greatest part about exterior design is the fact that you can still identify it as a Land Rover. Unlike the previous iteration of this line, the Range Rover Sport showcases its sporty nature in a far better manner, thanks to a more aerodynamic body, at the front and back.

On the inside, the 2014 Range Rover Sport combines top-quality materials with amazing design to deliver a simple yet elegant cabin – that’s even more appealing than that of an Audi car. And while its infotainment system isn’t as versatile as the one found in the Audi Q7 or BMW X5, it has enough features, like phone and audio connectivity, to keep you satisfied. The SUV’s other features include 14-way power front heated seats, eight-inch touchscreen display, cruise control, leather upholstery, wood trim, automatic climate control, power tailgate, audio system with Meridian sound and AM/FM/CD player, Bluetooth connectivity, USB port and power windows, locks and mirrors. There also many optional features to choose from, like a rear-seat entertainment system with wireless headphones, satellite and HD radio and a panoramic sunroof.

Under the hood, the new Land Rover Range Rover Sport offers a choice of two supercharged engines. The 3.0-litre V6 can produce 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, while the 5.0-litre V8 can pump pout the impressive 510 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque. Both engines come with a handy eight-speed automatic transmission. The V6 models take just a little under seven seconds to accelerate to 100 km/h, while the V8 ones take about five seconds. The fuel economy is sadly poor in the case of both engines, but if you’re looking for greater fuel efficiency, then the V6 would be the better option since its power output is much smaller.

Overall, the 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is one of the best luxury SUVs you can currently own, so if you like what you see, then run to your nearest dealership and take it for a spin. This one is definitely worth your time – and the high price.

Power and Performance:

The 2014 Range Rover Sport lineup includes two supercharged engines, both matched with a responsive 8-speed automatic transmission. According to Land Rover, V6 models will run to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds, while V8 versions will do it in 5.0 seconds. The added power of the V8 is nice, but we found the V6 plenty of engine for the svelte new Sport. Indeed, the automaker expects about 8 in 10 buyers to go with a V6 model.

Interiors and Special Features:

Even though Range Rovers are capable of traversing the toughest terrain to the middle of nowhere, you'll get there in the lap of luxury, surrounded by the new Range Rover Sport's luxurious standard leather and loads of high-end amenities.

During our on- and off-road trek of several hundred miles, we found the big seats quite comfortable and easy to adjust to the right driving position; the head restraints are especially sumptuous. Rear seats offer good legroom, but the seats themselves are stiff and may become uncomfortable after a few hours.

Controls have been complex in past generations of the Range Rover, but in the 2014 Range Rover Sport they were quite intuitive and easy to operate.

Rover is offering a third row in the RR Sport, but it is designed for limited use. Adults would find the space cramped; however, it should work well for children. The seating is actually referred to as "5+2," meaning this really is a 5-passenger vehicle that offers two additional seats if needed. The seats fold flat into the cargo floor when not in use.

Safety features:

Because it's brand-new, the 2014 Range Rover Sport hasn't been crash-tested yet by either the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Its score here is based on the usual attributes of SUVs, on its aero-style construction, and its safety technology.

All versions come with airbags and stability control, and the Sport's stability system is programmed with lots of subroutines to be run as accident avoidance. There's roll-stability control, trailer-sway control, as well as corner-brake control--all of which apply brakes selectively to neutralize the threat of diminished vehicle control. Hill-start assist and hill-descent control are also standard, as is a rearview camera.

The Sport also will be getting its own dose of the latest technology, including lane departure warnings; blind-spot monitors; proximity sensors; a surround-camera system; parking assist with help for parking in both parallel and perpendicular spots; and automatic high-beam actuation. Some of these features won't be available until later in the 2014 model year.

Land Rover's adaptive cruise control system adds more features this year in the Sport, too. At stop-and-go speeds, the system will bring the Sport to a complete halt, and a tap on the gas will resume cruising speed.
