The 2015 Honda CR-V is a spacious, comfortable and practical crossover that exists solely for the satisfaction of larger families. It may not be the prettiest machine around, but it does what it’s supposed to do well enough – which is carry lots of stuff and people. And since its base price is well below $30,000, the value it offers is hardly matched.
Rating: 9.2 / 10
The 2015 Honda CR-V is the updated version of one of the most beloved compact crossovers in Canada. Its target consumers are large families who need comfortable cabins and lots of features. Luckily, the CR-V offers all of those and more. We especially like how this vehicle balances passenger and cargo areas without compromising one or the other, making it perfect for long family trips.
On the outside, the CR-V almost the same as the model launched for 2012. In other words, it’s a boxy wagon-shaped vehicle with a vertical rear end. To make things a little more interesting Honda also added an upswept triangular third window on each side adds a bit of flair, but it does impede the rear three-quarter vision. Complementing the CR-V’s boxy shape is a very tall tailgate that allows for a lot of cargo room. In general, the design is practical, but not exactly pretty.
The new grille looks like the one on the 2015 Fit, incorporating a large central horizontal black bar with chrome accents. Honda also updated the daytime running lights to contain LEDs along with some changes to the lower bumper and front fascia. On the other end, the taillights sport the same shape, but the bulbs are now LEDs as well. Finally, Honda made a few adjustments to the vehicle’s 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels to make them look more elegant and upscale.
On the inside, the 2015 CR-V has received a few enhancements too. For instance, there is now a sliding center console armrest that flips up to showcase a large internal storage area – one of many nooks and cranny throughout the cabin. The front seats offer firm, well-shaped support, while the rear seats recline enough to provide plenty of head- and legroom. If you sit in the back, you will also find special climate vents for the centre console, which are definitely appreciated. Another nice touch includes soft-touch dashboard inserts with simulated stitching, which make the car seem more luxurious. The cargo area is 35.2 cubic feet large with the rear seats, making it two cubic feet smaller than the last year’s cargo space; we still think it’s big though.
One of the biggest faults of the 2014 CR-V was the amount low-quality plastics used throughout the cabin, and sadly, most of them are back for 2015. What’s worse is that this makes it look a lot less upscale than many of its rivals. That said, the controls for various function are all in their logical locations, which makes them easy to find and learn, including the seven-inch touchscreen with its big icons. Besides the screen, you will also find a rearview camera, Bluetooth, a text-message reader with a digitized voice and Pandora compatibility, all of which are standard!
Under the hood, the 2015 CR-V has a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine, which produces 185 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. The only available transmission is the continuously variable one (CVT), so not too many options here. However, you can select between front- and all-wheel drive systems.
Overall, the 2015 Honda CR-V is a fantastic family vehicle. It’s spacious and practical, despite not being overly pretty. If you are looking for a crossover that costs less than $30,000, then definitely check this one out.

|Power and Performance:|
The 2015 Honda CR-V has a new and updated powertrain, largely to boost its fuel economy ratings. But like its predecessors, its performance largely fits its mission. It's perfectly adequate for families, without any fancy V-6 or turbocharged engine. If it has a flaw, it's that the entire driving experience is more than a little lacking in excitement.
The 2015 CR-V stays with the traditional 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, but it is an EarthDreams direct-injected unit, rated this year at an unchanged 185 horsepower and but a slightly higher 181 lb-ft of torque.

Not to be out done, the CR-V’s cabin has been totally revamped as well, from the cup holders to its front sliding armrest. Yes, about the only noteworthy upgrade inside is a completely redesigned center console. The storage cubbies have been rearranged and it gains some electrical ports for charging smartphones, tablets or other small electronics. Additionally the console has gained a pair of air vents, which should be a real boon to rear-seat passengers.
A power driver’s seat and heated front buckets are standard on EX models and above, as is keyless entry with push-button start. Benefiting taller folks that ride up front, the CR-V’s sun visors now slide to help block more of the side glass and keep glare to a minimum.

The 2015 Honda CR-V comes standard with antilock brakes, stability and traction control, front seat side airbags, side curtain airbags and a rearview camera. The LaneWatch blind spot monitoring system (featuring a camera of its own that displays passenger-side blind spot activity on the 7-inch touchscreen) is standard on all but the LX. The Touring boasts a lane departure warning system and a forward collision warning and mitigation system that's able to distinguish between vehicles and pedestrians (and warn the driver accordingly) as well as apply automatic braking intervention to reduce the severity of a collision.
