Quick Look

The 2015 Audi Q3 is the first version of the compact crossover SUV to enter the Canadian market. It's small on the outside, but incredibly spacious on the inside – with plenty of tech features and stylish design. The biggest issue with the Q3 is its lacklustre 2.0-litre four-cylinder powertrain that doesn't quite rival some of the similarly-priced offerings on the market, which is a shame.

2015 Audi Q3

Full Review

The 2015 Audi Q3 is the first iteration of the compact crossover SUV in North America, having been introduced to the European market in 2011. With the successes of the Q5 and Q7, it's apparent that the demand for smaller SUVs is growing down here. As such, it's really no surprise that Audi has decided to bring yet another addition to this family. The Q3 delivers excellent design, a decent engine and plenty of Audi's tech shenanigans on the inside. In other words, this compact may be even more successful than Audi's other similar ventures.

On the outside, the 2015 Q3 sports rounded lines and a squat stance similar to that of the Q5, though it is evidently smaller. In fact, the new Q3 is about 10 inches shorter than the Q5, while its coupe-like roof is a couple of inches lower. At the front, the Q3 has a set of bright xenon headlights and LED daytime running lights, and at the back, there is a tapering rear hatch that gently connects the spoiler to the standard LED taillights. To support the Q3's slightly sporty nature, Audi has endowed it with a dual exhaust along with aluminum trim around the side windows to make them even more appealing.

On the inside, the 2015 Q3 offers space for up to five passengers with its two seating rows. As is the case of the other Audi compact SUVs, the Q3 sports a sophisticated yet modest cabin. In other words, it's nothing new, if you've already seen any of the recent Audis. That being said, the buttons that control the optional navigation and infotainment system are now located on the centre dash as opposed to the centre console, like in the other Audis. As expected, most functions are easy to find and use, but some can be a little annoying. For instance, the temperature controls are strangely-shaped, while the sun visors don't extend. Audi does makes up for these minor shortcomings with decent interior comfort. The Q3 provides 12-way power front seats that offer enough support and adjustability to satisfy just about anyone.  At the back, there's enough legroom to fit two adults comfortably, which is achieved thanks to the intelligent design of the front seatbacks. Cargo room is not too shabby either, especially if you take the car's relatively small size into account.

Under the hood, the Audi Q3 has only one engine, which can be a blessing and a curse in some cases. In the case, however, we are happy to report that the Q3's turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder powertrain delivers. It can produce up to 200 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque, which are just enough to keep this small car mobile. Admittedly, the Q3 could us a bit more horsepower, if you consider its cousin, the 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI, which comes with a 2.0-litre four that generates 210 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The Q3 also comes with only one choice of transmission – a six-speed automatic. It's a decent offering, but we wouldn't have minded to see something a little more cutting-edge. Front-wheel drive is standard on this one, but you can opt for Quattro all-wheel drive, if you're feeling a little more dangerous. The best fuel economy number the Q3 can muscle out is 9.7 litres per 100 kilometres, which is not bad, but the rating of 8.3 litres per 100 kilometres on the more powerful BMW X1 is far more impressive.

Overall, the 2015 Audi Q3 is a good start as far as we're concerned. Our biggest issue with this vehicle its powertrain, which could be just little more powerful and efficient. That being said, it's still a fantastic vehicle that manages to be small and comfortable at the same time – and that's no small feat. We highly recommend trying it out.

Puissance et performance:

Unlike many other Audis that offer a range of gasoline, diesel and even hybrid powerplants to choose from, the new Q3 makes do with just one: a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder. As we said earlier in this review, the 4-cylinder's 200 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque are just enough for the Q3. We certainly wouldn't turn down a few more horses in the Q3's stable, especially when its cousin, the 2015 VW Golf GTI, has a 2.0-liter that boasts 210 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. A 6-speed automatic is the sole transmission choice. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard, and Quattro all-wheel drive (AWD) is available. The Q3 is rated up to 29 mpg, which lags the 34 mpg rating of the more powerful BMW X1.

Caractéristiques spéciales et intérieures:

The 2015 Q3 has two rows and seating for up to five passengers. Audi's compact crossover SUV has a cabin that is sophisticated yet understated. It's familiar territory if you've been in an Audi recently, though the buttons that control the optional navigation/infotainment system have moved from the center console to the center dash. Most functions are easy to find and use, though some are awkward, such as the flick-like temperature controls and sun visors that don't extend. The 12-way power front seats are comfortable. Rear legroom is just enough for adults thanks to the clever sculpting of the front seatbacks, as is cargo room behind the seats.
