Quick Look

The 2014 Jaguar XK is a delightfully modern vehicle that offers just about everything one would expect from a car that goes for about $100,000. Its engines are powerful, its cabin is luxurious and its body design is as sleek and sexy as they come. Those who can afford one should definitely consider getting it, but its price is definitely too high for the majority of drivers out there.

Full Review

The 2014 Jaguar XK has barely changed at all since last year, though the super-limited-edition XKR-S GT does offer a few notable additions. That said, you probably won’t be driving that version anyway. The lack of any updates isn’t a terrible thing, however, since the XK is still an elegant and comfortable vehicle with a touch of sportiness added on. But, that’s not all this neat, little package also has a sleek and sexy body that’s uniquely British.

On the outside, the 2014 XK comes with a short rear deck and extended nose, which when combined produce a modern interpretation of Jaguar's famous E-Type. The XKR variant also offers exclusive wheels and quad-exhaust outlets, while the XKR-S features gunmetal-painted wheels, a ventilated hood, its own unique bodywork and a carbon-fiber back spoiler. The convertible model comes with a power soft top, which you can raise or lower in about 18 seconds.

On the inside, the Jaguar XK doesn’t mask its upscale nature at all, offering a very nice mix of contrast-stitched leather overlays and polished hardwoods. You can still find a few analog controls here, which for the most part are very user-friendly, but there aren’t many of them. Most of the cabin operations are controlled through though a ridiculously sluggish touchscreen interface.

In terms of comfort, however, the XK is a top-notch proposition. You get 16-way adjustable front seats with countless arrangements, which also offer plush and firm support. The back seats, on the other hand, are just awful in terms of space, so please don’t try to put people back there! If you opt for the coupe's hatchback version, you’ll get a slightly larger cargo area than in the convertible since that version’s retractable roof limits the space.

Under its delightful hood, the XK has a 5.0-litre all-aluminum V8 engine, which features direct fuel injection and variable camshaft timing. It can produce 385 horsepower in standard form, but the supercharged XKR offers 510 horses, if you need more juice. The XKR-S and XKR-S GT versions give even more with 550 horsepower. All the engines get combined with a six-speed ZF automatic transmission with a sport mode that offers quick upshifts and downshifts – but it can also be manually shifted thanks to a pair of steering-wheel-mounted paddles.

If you like sporty British cars or you’re just a fan of Austin Powers’ ride, then the 2014 Jaguar XK should be in your possession – if you can afford it, that is. This baby carries an MSRP of $98,625, which means that most of us can only dream of ever owning it.

Power and Performance:

Whichever specification of Jaguar XK you choose, you'll find a ready and willing engine, a taut suspension that adjusts to suit both terrain and mood, and a sporty quality to its handling that's often lost in the translation from sports car to larger grand tourer.

In standard form, the XK coupe and convertible use a normally aspirated 5.0-liter V-8 engine rated at 385 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. Cruising around town, there's a low burble, reminding you of the power that slumbers under the hood, but not beating you about the ears with it. Mash the throttle, however, and a brilliant roar emerges from seemingly everywhere; it's an almost American small-block sound. You'll also be rewarded with acceleration that presses you back in your seat, reaching 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds (5.3 seconds for the convertible), per Jaguar. Top speed for these models is electronically limited to 155 mph.

Interiors and Special Features:

For 2014, the Jaguar XK's interior feels particularly upscale with a pleasing mix of contrast-stitched leather overlays and polished hardwoods. The analog controls are intuitive, though most interior functions are operated via the frustratingly lethargic touchscreen interface. Comfort, on the other hand, is top-notch. The 16-way adjustable front seats provide endless arrangements and strike a pleasing balance between plush and firm support. Cramming two adults into the rear seats might pass for cruelty, but luggage or small children will fit fine. The coupe's hatchback design affords a slightly larger cargo area than the convertible, where top-down driving further trims overall trunk space.

Safety features:

Standard safety equipment on the 2014 XK lineup includes traction and stability control, antilock brakes, front side airbags and active front head restraints. Side curtain airbags are not offered. The convertible adds pop-up rollover bars.
