My son purchased a used truck from Standard Motors this year.
The transaction itself was smooth and easy.
However a little over 30 days after purchasing the truck, the engine light had come on. After an inspection, it was determined that a full cam phaser replacement was needed. Roughly $1,500 - $3,000 repair job. For context, he paid $5,000 for the truck.

At the inspection, Ford indicated that the truck should not be driven until fixed to avoid damage to the engine. At that point my son hadn’t even made his first payment yet.
I contacted the salesman asking what our options were. I asked if they would honor the 30 day warranty as it was just over the 30 day threshold and given the nature of the issue, I thought it was reasonable and fair to ask for a return so my son could find a vehicle that wasn’t broken. If the issue was something smaller, I would cut our losses and deal with it.

They were completely unwilling to help my son with a return. He spent his entire savings on this truck and had nothing to drive or show for it. And no money left to repair the engine. They offered us $600 with a take it or leave it attitude and left my son with a broken truck. Given that the issue was a fundamental engine issue, I’m shocked and disappointed that their business wouldn’t make this right and let us return the broken truck after such a short time period.

I would not wish this situation upon any young graduate just starting out his adulthood.

Way to make a customer feel cared about. I would not recommend this dealership to anyone. It was a very dishonest deal. I have all the email correspondence to confirm this entire conversation.

This time we got fit in to get our summer/winter tires swapped since we had to be in the city for 2 days. Their shuttle driver is friendly and drives well. It was very much appreciated as we had appointments. We got our car back by noon. I wish the tire air pressures were done/full/even but overall would recommend here. They are a busy place!

I just want to express my disappointment with the owners at Standard Motors. My 17 year old grandson used his life savings plus took out a loan to purchase a pre-owned truck from the GMC location. Six weeks into owning the vehicle the truck needed extensive repairs to the cam phasers plus the rack-and-pinion needs replacing and an electrical issue has caused many of the lights to not work. The owner of Standard Motors wasn't willing to take the truck back and gave my grandson $600 with a take it or leave it attitude. Now the truck sits with only one payment made and two more years of payments and no vehicle to show for it. Coffee row here in Swift Current can't believe you wouldn't stand behind one of your vehicles you took on trade. You need to fix this issue now so my grandson has a vehicle to go off to trade school in fall. SHAME on you for not helping this young man out!

91 octane is recommended on this vehicle although my tester has never registered more than 90 with any 91 fuels here in Canada.

Went in to look at a used 2018 civic si, the windshield was cracked in 2 spots but was still a good looking car so took it out for a test drive.  the service light was on for a service past due.  I asked if the window was going to be fixed was told it was not.  I also asked if a proper inspection was done on the vehicle (considering the fact that a maintenance light was on) was told that no and also that it would not be done.  this is really unfortunate as if you look on their website it actually says right on the webiste under the used car portion on the standard motors website.  "All of our used vehicles have been carefully inspected to make sure that they are all in top condition."

Buyer beware, I cannot speak to their new inventory but the used vehicles on the lot may not have any kind of inspection.

My sales person was honest about the car not being inspected so I am not upset with my salesperson Hector, but whoever is making the decision on taking on trades etc without doing any kind of inspection on these used vehicles???  seems to go against a policy they probably used to honor in years past.

At no time during the sales process whether it was during the sit down or when texting back and forth with my salesman
was i made aware that this car was anything other than a traded in used vehicle.
I wish i had been told that this sale was going to be treated like a wholesale deal. That would have been fine as i would have gone into the deal with full transparency. I only know this now based on my review response

We were on our way from Saskatoon to Cypress Hills with a vehicle full of camping stuff and ran into some vehicle troubles, we stopped in swift current at standard motors to explain our situation and the issue we were having. They helped us out and fit us in right away to figure out we needed a new bearing and hub, we were back on the road in less than 2hrs. Very thankful for their speedy customer service and friendly staff.

Start with the positive and that is 1 star for Laurie as only person there that helped me. My partners suv when in for a puncture repair, left vehicle in town till could get it home following day and there "repair" had only made the puncture worse. Returned vehicle to them to get tyre replaced under the warranty which we had been sold on purchasing the vehicle. (Being AWD I knew have to change all 4 tyres at 1 time and I questioned this before purchasing the warranty and was told they will do whatever it needs to be fixed right.) Anyway warranty were only going to pay for 1 so glad I got ripped of by the sales team with the warranty!!! Wanted to change to a 17inch rim with a LT tyre so wouldn't have issues with soft tyres, I found rims and tyres went into the parts department and showed what had found and explained the situation was told can get 18inch LT tyre in same size so said you find the tyres and I will get rims but only once confirmed the 18 LT tyre! So I had to call 3 times over 4 days to get an answer on the tyres as they never called me back! Was told they found 18inch tyres so went ahead ordered rims and went in following day to find out more on the tyres. Was then told they weren't LT tyres!!!! So I had now wasted $1100 on wrong size rims they knew they messed up but never offered a solution for there mistake! I wasn't going to argue for them to do their job right as i shouldn't have too. By this point SUV had been there nearly two weeks and in the following couple days they called my partner asking when she was going to drop vehicle off! They had forgotten it was there!(At start of this I had told them to contact myself not my partner so had failed to do that, forgot car was there and cost me $1100 on wrong rims $1100 on tyres I didn't want by this point) . To top this off was informed that TPS would need to be replaced at $45 a piece as old ones were glued on and can't save them!( I added a picture of that "glued" on none saveable sensor). Then the mechanic that swapped tyres and put old ones in her SUV rather then move her personal items onto empty seat they just rammed the tyres on top of it !!! This is just one of our bad experiences at this dealership since purchasing this vehicle from them.

Picked up our new 2022 GMC Terrain today, and I have to say it's a beautiful car!! Our salesman, Ernie Waldner was so wonderful! He made the experience so easy and enjoyable, totally stress free. He is so knowledgeable about the vehicles too. He explained all the bells & whistles to me. Told me to call or text if we needed anything. As far as I'm concerned, he went above and beyond for us, and we would definitely recommend Standard Motors!!

I took a truck to the body shop to repair a hit and run. When I brought my truck in, the tonneau cover was on the truck and tight. When I got my truck back, the tonneau cover was rolled up and tossed in the back. They claimed that the adjustor was missing. Missing on the side that was removed for repair... It wasn't before taking it in for repair. So I bought that out of my pocket to repair. Shortly after repair I noticed that the repaired area was peeling. Upon further inspection, the side panel was taped, and then painted over the tape (pictures attached). The rear bumper was misaligned and sagging as well. I went back twice with complaints to be repaired and was always told they would call me. No calls, I took my vehicle to another shop and paid out of pocket for flares to hide this repair and fix the bumper.

I was travelling from Winnipeg to Calgary and encountered mechanical issues between Moose Jaw and Swift Current. Called Standard on a Friday afternoon and they told us to to come in and they would figure it out. They took us immediately, the problem was diagnosed within 15 minutes and the repairs were completed within 30 minutes. All covered under warrant!

Fantastic experience purchasing my truck. I called Saturday on the Labour day wknd and talked with Ernie about the vehicle I was interested in and he answered the majority of my questions.
Sunday morning he texted pics of the truck and then met me at the dealership on the holiday Monday so I could look at it and take it for a test drive.
Between Ernie and Tonja the deal was done on Tuesday, there was no pressure from Tonja into buying any extras. She went through them all and left it up to me, she also put in the time to find out about transferring the extended warranty from my old vehicle to the new one and got it all done up for me.
It's nice to see a dealership with staff like this willing to go the extra mile for their customers!
