About Dodge Canada
Dodge is a North American automaker that is a subsidiary of the Chrysler Group, one of the largest auto groups in the United States. Founders John and Horace Dodge established the company in the 1900’s and supplied parts for Ford vehicles until 1914. In 1922, Dodge was the first US automaker with an all steel body and also the first to establish an assembly plant in Europe. The current product lineup includes the Viper, Charger, Challenger, Dart, Durango, Grand Caravan, and Journey.
On November 14, 1914, the first vehicle was produced called the Dodge Model 30, which quickly established the company’s reputation for dependability and value. In 1933, Dodge adapted the Ram symbol as the hood arm on its vehicles to symbolize its reputation as being the “King of the Trail.” During World War 2, Dodge built Four Wheel Drive (4WD) trucks that were utilized as part of the US war effort. Post WWII, the Power Wagon was introduced to the general public in 1946 and exemplified the ruggedness and power of the trucks.
Dodge also has a strong historical presence in automotive performance. The Charger was unveiled in 1966, introducing the first high performance Hemi engine. In the 1970’s, the Charger Daytona set the closed-track high speed record. In total, the Hemi engines set nearly 200 high speed records at the Bonneville Salt Flats in western Utah. Since then, the racing image of the company grew. A super sports car was released in 1992 called the Viper. A high performance tuning segment called the Street and Racing Technology (SRT) was established as a result of the Viper. Current SRT products include the Challenger SRT8, Charger SRT8, Jeep Grand Cherokee Hemi SRT-8, and SRT Viper.
