Toyota Customer

New Car (Sales)

If you want loyal customers then service post sale is very important.
The particular salesman, Gareth Black, was okay but did not meet what I would expect from Toyota. Toyota needs to own some responsibility and get some coaching for these sales guys who appear to know very little about the product they are selling. Professionalism is also important and the sales manager, Geordie, should be setting a better example. You can't expect me to happy after spending tens of thousands and then being treated like an inconvenience directly after. Attitude goes a million miles with building and maintaining a good relationship with your CUSTOMERS. Just saying.

We just bought a Highlander Hybrid, and we worked together with Troy, he was excellent to deal with, knowledgeable, honest, well spoken, and made sure we were getting into the right vehicle for my family. Him, Mark, and the rest of the Saint John Toyota team were great, and made the buying experience enjoyable, and fun.

We had a really great experience today at Saint John Toyota as we purchased a 2023 Rav4. This was the sixth time we have been a satisfied customer. We have leased a corolla, two matrixes, two Rav4s and today purchased this 2023 Rav4. Geordie Holden was very welcoming to us and was very respectful to us being loyal toyota customers. Jeff Furlotte our sales rep was also very knowledgeable , attentative, and provided excellent customer service to us today.

Thank you ,

Donna and John Belding

My truck has been there since july to have the transmission replaced, January and i still dont have my truck. I paid over $11,500. I am a disabled vet and have a 8 month pregnant girlfriend, the owner decided to hang up on me when i asked for a rental. I have a tiktok with more details and will answer questions, ryanpabswilson is the tiktok

*edit* troy in the service department (the manager i believe) has been absolutely stellar, too bad he has too work for a buisness that treats customers like this.

Got my first car delivered from Saint John, Toyota to Moncton. Had a wonderful experience dealing with product advisor Joel Graham who was extremely friendly and took time to go through all the details with me and tried to accommodate my needs to the best of his ability and also Finance manager Logan Garnhum who sped up the process. Thank you for providing excellent service.

My dad bought a car through Reg Jesso. Traded in his Honda and paid the difference with cash. Reg completed paper work and put the bill of sale in his mom's name Lillian Jesso. Right is right and wrong is wrong. There is no in between. Nice to know Toyota hires sneaky staff and take advantage of an 83 year old.

My grandparemts bought a used car here, the salesmen said that he would get the car buffed, but when we went to pick up the car it was still covered in scratches, which could have easily been taken off. The salesmen here seem quite dishonest and lazy... not worth your money.

Wife and I have a 2018 Camry on which some things have never been right from the time it was new. We just brought it in here for service, and all we got was lame excuses and bull. Very similar to the dealer where we got the car in Ontario. We have never encountered dealers that exhibit such a holier than thou arrogant (it's not our problem, as our vehicles are perfect) attitude. That's ok, as we were considering a top of the line Highlander or a Lexus. We just went to the place across the road from Lexus, i.e. Merc, and will likely be going ahead with the purchase of a significantly more expensive vehicle. This Toyota vehicle is the first Toyota for both of us. This latest experience has cemented our decision to never again own a Toyota or Lexus branded vehicle.

Terrible service. When you book a time, you still have to wait for about 1,5 hour, and then, they try to cheat you. They tell you that your car is a danger on the road and offer to buy it for $100. Yeah, you heard me right. $100. When we took the car to another car service, the staff shook their heads. It was worth at least $3000. Avoid this place.

The SJ Toyota Sales and Service Staff I have had experience with have been top notch and a pleasure to do business with. You can rest assured they will do their best to look after you and your Toyota. Plus with a Toyota you are diving the vehicle with the best reliability record out there!

Service was quick but they charged me more than the quote on the telephone, and when I said otherwise they were adamant I was wrong. (229.99$ plus tax to 289.99$ plus tax). Had no choice but to pay their inflated price. Good gravy over 500$ to replace an alternator.

There automatic van doors open them selves randomly (when driving and parked) very unsafe. Took the van in and they can't figure out why the door is having an issue which means they can't/won't help and say they're not responsible to fix it, leaving us with a van meant to be a kid friendly/familly vehicle that could just open the door itself on the highway. Toyota warranty on their cars cover basically nothing, I don't recommend them after my multiple bad experiences in a row.

Is it an accepted sales tactic (or maybe it’s taught) at Saint John Toyota to have a verbal agreement with someone to purchase a vehicle only to turn around and sell that same vehicle to someone else two minutes later? Maybe if you allowed people to post reviews, even when they are negative, on your Facebook page, the honest, hard working people who walk into your business wouldn’t be blindsided by the shady business tactics and dishonest salespeople who work there.

Source: Google

John Smith

Unprofessional, rude, and indifferent towards customers.
In some cases - I would use the word immature as a descriptor.
Go see one of the top salesmen I know at Fredericton Toyota (I will not be naming him in this review but the folks at Fredericton are pretty decent).

My family (Parents, Aunts, An Uncle, one of my Father's friend etc. - they all live far away from Fredericton too) all buy from him and the sales people are the most genuine folks I have personally known who will treat you right even down the road after selling you a vehicle because they want you to come back. I gave this particular salesman a ring last night because I am looking for a used vehicle to take on the non-leisure mileage - he was more than happy to investigate and he was also pleased I was considering taking my business to them for service and future purchases. I explained to him I bought local thinking that it was more convenient but for most people the cost of vehicles is second to a home usually and for that kind of purchase I expect a much better customer relations experience.

Customer relations and service play a bigger role than some sales people believe I am afraid. It is a shame that people need to inconvenience themselves and travel to get respectable quality service. When I speak of service I am talking to all aspects of the experience from the test drive all the way to years later bringing back your vehicle to be serviced.
I Bought my first car at SJ Toyota. Then traded twice and bought twice at SJ Toyota but apparently...so I am told...SJ Toyota sells too many vehicles to remember anything about you or care about taking you seriously. They will expect you to walk with them as they sip their coffee and interrupt the conversation if distracted by a pretty girl, or they will just walk back in their office when they feel like its time for you to shut up and leave I guess. As mentioned to me, once the deals done, its done...well I guess if that's the approach I will respond accordingly and consider giving an alternate dealer my business which includes service work.
If money was no object I would fly to Japan and buy a Toyota there, then sail it back by ship because their culture and attitudes match the level of quality they put into their vehicles. Eat, Sleep, Drive a Toyota-but not from Saint John.

So I recently purchased a new vehicle (left over 2018) and paid a pretty penny for it. I want to remind those reading that the rating is NOT against the vehicle but rather reflects the sales and services only at this particular dealership. That being said I will state both the good and the bad. The good included a newer salesman, Gareth Black, who took his time to make sure we found the right vehicle for us and no pressure tactics which I appreciate. I was disappointed that I couldn't drive the vehicle home that same day after spending 6-7 hours there, however, they forgot to MVI the thing so I had to wait. The salesman was visible genuine in that he felt awful I was going to need to wait another day after I was clear earlier that day I was driving the thing home. The danger there was that I could have changed my mind over night, however, I didn't and went back to finish the process for the new purchase on a Friday. The following morning I contacted Saint John Toyota and asked if new oil was in the vehicle before I took it. No one was sure included the salesman whom I purchased from nor the manager Geordie. To Gareth's credit I will say I am impressed with his honesty and that he stated he really didn't know about how long oil should remain in an unused engine and that I would likely know more about that than him. When I spoke to the sales manager he had an interesting reaction as if my request was funny. I spent well over $40,000 on this vehicle and was not amused about the fact he kept stating they never change the oil in a brand new car. I explained that the issue was that we are a quarter into 2019 and that the 2018 I bought would have had oil in its engine since assembly/ fall delivery of 2017...this valid concern seemed to be of no concern to anyone in the sales department but to Geordie's credit he did offer to change the oil at no cost and would follow up with me next week and abruptly the call ended. I was planning on doing quite a bit of travelling that weekend and I sure didn't buy a Toyota with its reliability record to cruise around in 2 year old oil. Before the sales manager let me go on the phone I asked if the service department could just change it since they were still open for a couple hours but the sales manager said they were way too booked up and couldn't do anything that day. Keep in mind I had just purchased the vehicle the previous day so YES an exception should have been made. An oil change on a 2.5 L engine is pretty simply - open plug/ drain, walk away, come back, replace plug screw in new filter. Anyways, I really felt like this was not a good start for them so I just drove right over to their location anyway and into the Service Bay. I spoke to Glen Hurley and he was excellent. He was able to get the oil change done for me. I checked the oil later and instead of the gold/ yellow, it was clear and fresh as it should have been the day I bought it. The theory passed onto to my by some of the SJ Toyota staff was that since the vehicle had barely any miles on it and although it was a 2018, it wouldn't need an oil change because it would be no different that if you left oil sitting on the shelf. First of all, for all that an oil change is, they should just have done it and avoided this feedback. Secondly, this vehicle would have seen at least two seasons of condensation and cold weather. When I buy a NEW vehicle and its defined as NEW then I expected that oil to be nothing more than 6 to 8 months old at the most. Lastly, instead of the push back or telling me it would be a waste to do it, maybe Toyota should provide their sales staff with some coaching so they understand some of these basic principles. My advice is to give your sales staff more training on basic automotive mechanics and tighten up on maintaining the customer relations post purchase. Overall I think it was a 'good' experience but hopefully this feedback can hit on some areas for improvement. Thanks.

Thank you so much Kenny,

Your help has been invaluable. You’ve got my back.
You are a trustworthy and helpful person.
It can seem like we are only customers in other dealerships.
After you purchase a car, they're done with you.
That has never been the case with you or your Manager.
I thank you for your above and beyond professionalism. Something as small as
help with a paint stick can make a lasting impression.
The good sales person and the great sales person are sorted out quickly.
See you at the end of April for service.

Kind regards,

Cheryl Addison

Not everyone loves car shopping! When it came time for me to purchase a new vehicle, Chris Coyle and the team at Saint John Toyota made it super easy for me! I was only at my point of “ just looking “ and wasn’t going to purchase that day but once I felt how helpful he was and how pressure free the environment was, I took home a new 2019 Corolla THAT SAME DAY!!!! I love LOVE love my new Corolla!!!!

Travelled to Saint John Toyota from Ontario to purchase a used truck. I dealt with salesman Andrew Burns who was up front, knowledgable and helpful right from the start. Answered all my questions, sent me videos and gave me the confidence to fly down knowing what I was buying, was exactly as described. I was collected from the airport too! I can’t recommend him and the dealership enough.
A really pleasant experience and a fun road trip back!

Service after the sale was poor, the solution for the issue I was having was to put tires off a lease return on it. This did help but the vibration is still there and now it sounds like a truck rolling down the road. Looks like putting used parts on a car that didn't solve the problem is good enough. Never again will I deal with them.

I would give a 0 for the service department if it was possible. Every single time we book our Sienna for service they do not finish all of the items we booked it for.

One time was particularly bad. We booked it to have a part replaced and surprise, they didn't get it done before the end of the day so we said fine we would bring it back the next morning. They said no, we would have to make a new appointment and they were currently booking into the next week. We had to rearrange our vacation because of it.

We have also been screwed in the past on our warranty. A very expensive part broke, they told us it was not covered and would take 3 weeks to arrive. We rented a vehicle that our whole family cannot fit in and paid for it for a full week before Toyota decided that they made a mistake. It was covered by our warranty and as such our rental would be covered. They flat out refused to reimburse us for the full week we had already paid for out of our pocket. Straight up garbage service.

No need to drive out of town, Saint John Toyota has the inventory, the service. I've read stories of bad service ... but I'm willing to bet we are only getting one side of it. myself have family have been dealing there for years .... top notch all the way :) .. oh yes ... AND if you happen to buy a as traded vehicle, they will tell you to have it checked out before you buy. If you buy a car for next to nothing, it probably does need some work ... you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure that out.
