Quick Look

The 2016 Volkswagen CC is both classic and straightforward, featuring the same style and comfort that it always has – except now with more refinement and modern flow. This year’s model benefits from a comfortably spacious interior cabin and athletic engine line-up, both of which bring some serious charm to the sedan. On the outside is the same recognizable design in the form of pronounced curves and smooth sheet metal, ultimately conveying a sense of elegance that is evidenced throughout the interior as well. There is no doubt that the new Volkswagen CC aims to please with power, comfort and style.

Full Review

The 2016 Volkswagen CC is attractive and comfortable in all the right ways, straying only slightly from its traditional design. The most significant modifications are made to the interior cabin, which now sports a three-passenger backseat that is significantly more comfortable and spacious than the previous model. There’s also a ton of technical components available at your fingertips in the updated infotainment system. And if this isn’t enough for your satisfaction, there are two excellent engines available under the hood that can provide you with great power and fuel economy, depending on what type of ride you want. Altogether, this is a great vehicle for everyday driving.

This year’s Volkswagen CC definitely incorporates the styling cues of its successful predecessors, taking on a timeless shape that is both recognizable and cherished by the German brand’s aficionados. You’d have to be a true fan, however, because many of the exterior styling elements are rather understated and bring subtle sophistication to the outer design. These elements flow into the long arcing roofline, which overall makes the car look and feel closer to the ground. The windshield and rear glass also lay low in the car, contributing to improved aerodynamics. The real visual drama in this good-looking vehicle, however, comes from the frameless doors, which close tight against the seals and effectively reduce wind noise.

Evidenced throughout the Volkswagen’s interior is a great appreciation for leisure and precise attention to detail. A healthy blend of quality materials and high-end trim pieces outfit the cabin, creating an upscale vibe for the entry-level luxury sedan. Seating up to five passengers, seats are upholstered with VW-Tex upholstery and can be heated and/or ventilated on higher trims. Likewise, the back seat that is very comfortable and adequately spacious, though headroom is lacking due to the arced roofline. The rear seatbacks also flip forward to expand cargo space, but this might not be necessary as there is a huge trunk and plenty of useful cubbies and bins scattered throughout the cabin.

Volkswagen has generously equipped drivers with a variety of options like keyless entry, a panoramic sunroof, front and rear parking sensors and a rear view camera. However the main highlight can be found in the 6.3-inch touchscreen display, which bundles infotainment, navigation, Bluetooth and SiriusXM satellite radio. New in 2016 is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, which conveniently links your smartphone to the system for audio play.

Available with the Volkswagen CC are two drivetrains, each powerful and decently fuel-efficient for a vehicle that is a great for everyday driving. On the base model is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 200 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque. Running on front-wheel drive and dual-clutch automatic transmission, this unit is rated at 12.8 litres per 100 kilometres city and 9.1 litres per 100 kilometres highway. For more power you can opt for the 3.6-litre V6, which delivers 280 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. Exclusively mated with six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, this unit offers 16.6 litres per 100 kilometres city and 11.3 litres per 100 kilometres highway.

Standard safety features include antilock brakes and traction and stability control, as well as Volkswagen’s Car-Net telematics system. The system effectively bundles crash notifications, roadside assistance, stolen vehicle locator, remote door unlocking and geo-fencing – which allows parents to set boundaries for young drivers. Additionally available are forward collision warning with automatic braking, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control.

Throughout this car is an overall simple and straightforward feel, carrying over many aesthetic features from its predecessors. Though minimally changed in terms of style, the Volkswagen CC retains the same traditional features with some great engine options.
