Quick Look

The 2016 Toyota Corolla gets a major upgrade in its exterior looks, which is great as there are a lot of Corolla drivers complaining about the outdated designs it had in every model before this.

Full Review

The 2016 Toyota Corolla is a great car as it excels in fuel efficiency, powertrain, safety features, convenience, and now exterior looks. With the new design made to the exterior, the Toyota Corolla has it all. This is a prime example of how important consumer communication is, as it has made a mediocre sedan into a great sedan for most demographics. To top it all off, Toyota made sure to keep a fine line between this brand and its luxurious Lexus brand. Most brands that are improving exterior designing in their cars have been going overboard and possibly making their current brand look nicer than their luxurious brand which can deteriorate the luxury brand.

The exterior of the Corolla looks great with the completely new redesign. Starting off with the grille, it is a black cage-like design and is like an opening at the front. The Toyota logo is accompanying the grille at the middle as it is placed inside this opening. The headlights are located at the ends of the grille as they fit perfectly like puzzle pieces. The headlight are powered by LED lighting, giving it that sleek and modern look at night. The fog lights are located underneath the headlights and are placed in another opening. The rear view of the sedan is also really nice even though it is not as different from its predecessor. It has a rounder shape which helps it build character as a friendly and family-oriented car.

The interior is a great complement to the exterior designing. It has a friendly and sporty look at the same time which will be appreciated by many drivers as it allows them to have the best of both worlds. The centre console is very well laid out and neat as everything is placed in a driver-visible spot. The centre console is accompanied by a display screen which is a visual representation of the audio, Bluetooth, climate control, and navigation system. The material used for the dashboard and seats are pretty high quality, or at least seem high quality, which is enough. In terms of space, the Corolla provides enough of it for both drivers and passengers.

Under the hood, Toyota uses a 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine which is able to produce 132 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque. The engine is powered by a 6-speed automatic transmission. In terms of fuel efficiency, the Corolla is able to drive 100 kilometres in the city with about 8.7 litres and about 6.9 litres on the highway.

The 2016 Toyota Corolla is evidently an awesome car to roam around the roads with. It is perfect for almost any type of driver out there which enables everyone to be able to appreciate the work Toyota has put into this model.

Power and Performance:

The 2016 Toyota Corolla is powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that comes in two versions. On every trim level except the LE Eco, it produces 132 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque. The LE Eco's engine is a more efficient version with Toyota's Valvematic variable value timing and also makes a little more power, checking in at 140 hp and 126 lb-ft of torque.

The base Corolla L comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission, offering a four-speed automatic as an option. The other trims feature a continuously variable transmission (CVT), although the S Plus can also be ordered with the six-speed manual.

Interiors and Special Features:

The Corolla's cabin is easily the most interesting one to date. It's clear that designers were given freer rein this time, and the result is a reasonably stylish dashboard, accented by un-Corolla-like flourishes such as a sportily contoured steering wheel and an eye-catching asymmetrical shifter surround. The top priority remains ease of use, so the various audio interfaces employ tried-and-true knobs for volume and tuning, while the LE-and-up automatic climate control system (a welcome luxury in this price bracket) provides a large knob and a few foolproof buttons.

Safety features:

All 2016 Toyota Corollas come standard with stability and traction control and antilock brakes with brake assist. Also standard are front side airbags, front and rear side curtain airbags, a driver knee airbag and a passenger seat cushion airbag. A rearview camera is standard on all trims except the L.

Note that most 2016 Corollas get rear drum brakes, with only the S Plus, S Special Edition and S Premium trims upgrading to rear discs. In Edmunds brake testing, a Corolla LE Eco with the rear drums stopped from 60 mph in 130 feet, a longer-than-average result.
