Quick Look

Subaru has noticed the changes in the trend with the automotive industry and it seems like they are now moving on from powerhouse cars to better performance cars, the 2016 Subaru WRX specifically.

Full Review

The new 2016 Subaru WRX is now a lot more fuel efficient than its previous model which may be because Subaru has realized they might be able to do better in sales if they go with a new angle when marketing their cars. In terms of looks, they haven’t made any major alterations to it. However, with a combination of the exterior and interior looks, and the engine which is said to have been improved in performance, this new model is a great new car to go for.

Taking a look at the exterior looks, Subaru has kept most of it the same. The grille has that same pentagonal shape with the Subaru logo placed right at the centre of it and ultimately at the centre of the front view of the 2016 Subaru WRX. The indents on the hood of the sedan are pointing directly at the logo which is now the focal point of the entire car. Moving on to the headlights, again, it is the same design as the previous model. General sized headlights are what is used, nothing seems so fancy with them. As we move to see the rear view of the sedan, it seems very normal and boring. Nothing really special is going on in the back of the WRX. The tail lights seem very standard and with a slight spoiler on top of the cargo door, the 2016 Subaru WRX has a very normal exterior look.

The interior also doesn’t seem that extravagant. With a centre console right at the middle of the front, buttons and other functions under it, and plastic looking material everywhere, the interior designs for the WRX isn’t that appealing. In terms of space, they have hit that point by including a decent amount of space both for front passengers and rear passengers when it comes to legroom and headroom. Some features that are included are cruise control, pre-collision braking and lane-departure warning, along with lane-keep assist, Harman Kardon amplifier and speakers, keyless access and start and blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert.

Under the hood we can see Subaru is using a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder outfitted with a twin-scroll turbocharger and intercooler as well as direct injection. The engine will be able to push 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The engine will be run on either a manual or a continuously variable transmission that will be all wheel drive. In terms of fuel efficiency, the WRX will require about 12 litres for every 100 kilometres driven in the city, 9 litres for every 100 kilometres driven on the highway, and with a combination of driving both on the highway and in the city it will require about 10 litres.

It is safe to say after analyzing the exterior and interior look, and the engine, the 2016 Subaru WRX isn’t all that and could be improved in many different ways. For starters, the car in general seems very standard and normal. There is nothing in this model that would want someone to go out of their way to buy this.

Power and Performance:

The WRX's 2.0-liter turbo four is a tart performer, waking up every joint in the car's suspension and using every gear cog (or virtual gear). The four's horizontally-opposed cylinders lie flatter and lower, giving it more weight closer to the ground—and all the while, those pistons are turning gas into 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, peaking on a wide plateau from 2,000 to 5,200 rpm thanks to different cams and valve springs versus the non-turbo four.

Interiors and Special Features:

As in the Impreza, the WRX and STI cabins are functional and straightforward. There's some mild relief from past WRXs and Imprezas: the dash isn't so fashionable as in a Sonic or Cruze or Elantra, but it's at least functionally well conceived, with a cowl over the primary gauges and a smaller one over the multi-function LCD display that rests in the middle of the dash. There's some light matte-silver painted trim to break up the vast expanses of black, and for the most part it comes off handsomely if generically. STIs get a bit more dress-up in the form of Alcantara accents and some different trim.

Safety features:

Subaru's camera-based EyeSight safety suite is now available on the WRX Limited with Lineartronic CVT, enabling adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist. It is bundled in a package that also includes navigation and blind-spot detection, lane-change assist, and rear cross-traffic alert. Although EyeSight is not available on the WRX STI—it's not compatible with manual-transmission vehicles—the Limited STI adds blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert.

Boosting its safety over the last WRX, the new edition adds a driver knee airbag to its standard-equipment list, as well as a rearview camera.

Subaru also improved outward visibility with the current design, by slimming the pillars; and with a relatively high front seating position and somewhat low shoulder line, there's now good visibility in most directions. The side-mirror design introduced in 2012 is also 20 percent larger, providing a full field of rear view.
