Quick Look

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class has a look that is appreciated by most drivers, as it is very unique. Even though there aren’t that many changes done to this year’s model, the GL-Class is better than ever with some minor adjustments made.

Full Review

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class is seen pretty rarely on the road, and that’s only because of one reason, because of the incredibly high price. Even though the GL-Class is worth every penny Mercedes-Benz is asking, it is still very expensive for most car buyers. The combination of a beautifully designed exterior and interior, amazing safety features, and great overall performance is what makes the GL-Class have that prestige.

The exterior of the GL-Class looks as luxurious-looking and durable as ever. The overall shape of it is like a curvy box. The grille is designed with horizontal metal bars inside of it, and accompanying the grille is the Mercedes-Benz logo placed in the centre. The headlights are off to the sides of the grille and are powered by LED lighting. There is also a strip of lighting underneath the main light, which is also powered by LED lighting. This strip of light gives the SUV an attractive look at night. The fog lights are located under the headlights and are also powered by LED lighting. The rear view of the SUV hasn’t changed much. The cargo door still opens vertically and is accompanied by the Mercedes-Benz logo in the centre.

The interior looks great, especially since it is a great complement to the exterior designing. The centre console is very well-organized as all the functions and buttons on it are placed in a clearly visible position for drivers. For the most part, the layout of the centre console is similar to most other Mercedes-Benz models. The centre console is accompanied by the infotainment system and display screen. The display screen is a visual representation of the audio, climate control, navigation system, vehicle alerts, and Bluetooth. Also, since there is another screen near the speedometer, drivers don’t even have to look at an angle to see all these features, they are all right there in front of them. The material used for the dashboard and seats are very good quality, as it looks and feels very comforting. Another convenient feature offered to drivers is an analog located near the armrest which controls majority of the features in the SUV. In terms of space, Mercedes-Benz offers more than enough leg and headroom for both drivers and passengers.

Under the hood, Mercedes-Benz offers a couple of engines. The first being a 3.0-litre V6 BlueTEC turbodiesel engine which is able to produce 240 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque. The second is a 4.6-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine which is able to produce 429 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. In terms of fuel efficiency, the first engine is able to drive 100 kilometres in the city with about 12.4 litres and 9.1 litres on the highway. The second is able to drive 100 kilometres in the city with about 18.0 litres and 13.1 litres on the highway.

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz G-Glass is a great option to go for. Other than the ridiculously high price and the poor fuel efficiency, drivers will absolutely love this SUV and appreciate even the little things Mercedes-Benz offers.

Interiors and Special Features:

The 2016 GL-Class seats seven passengers in three rows with good legroom for all occupants. Cargo space behind the third row is somewhat limited, but folding the second and third rows down opens up the cargo capacity to a generous 93.8 cubic feet. Fit and finish of the interior is impeccable, with soft-touch surfaces and lots of well-done wood and metal trim. Standard equipment includes MB-Tex, which is very much like leather, with real leather an option. The seats themselves are terrific for long hauls, and outward vision is good except to the rear, so the blind-spot monitoring system is a wise choice.
