Quick Look

The 2016 Lincoln MKX is the second addition to this lineup and it’s absolutely extraordinary when it comes to exterior and interior designs, and the engine. It will definitely be considered a serious threat to its competitors like the BMW X5, Acura RDX and Lexus RX.

Full Review

Lincoln has done a great job with their new edition of the MKX. The new features and design really make it stand out compared to its heavyweight competitors like the BMW X5, Acura RDX and Lexus RX. There are some aspects to this luxury crossover that may seem similar to its MKC line, however those similarities are only from exterior designs, so don’t be too quick to judge! When it comes to the interior and engine, the MKX is superior to its almost-identical crossover MKC.

The 2016 MKX has a very luxurious and compact exterior look. Lincoln has never lost a sense luxury with any of its crossovers, and they certainly haven’t done so with their newest MKX. The strong sense of luxury likely stems from the vehicle’s original, larger, brushed-metallic bar that surrounds the side intakes on the lower front bumper. Now that we are picturing the front of the crossover, Lincoln has, of course, included LED headlights for this model and instead of using projectors, this crossover’s headlight system uses slick-looking blade slapes. At the back, the taillight arrangements have also been altered, making them look better than ever.

Lincoln has done an amazing job with their interior designs in their new Lincoln MKX. First off, the crossover is still a five-seater (so no third seating row), but it offers more cargo space as a compensation. In addition to its very spacious concept, it has a bunch of cool new features debuting with this vehicle. These features will be provided by the Lincoln Drive Control. Some features we will be seeing are electric power steering and an active-damping system, which can also be found in the MKC model. On top of everything, Lincoln has partnered with Harman’s Revel division, meaning that the MKX now offers a 13-speaker audio system, designed to iron the harshness out of compressed digital audio piped in via the MyLincoln Touch system. Moreover, this crossover includes a 360-degree camera system, pre-collision assist, 22-way adjustable front-seats and an embedded hotspot.

Lincoln allows two options as far as the MKX’s engines are concerned. With the base model, there is the 3.7-litre V6 option, which is projected to push 300 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. The second option is a 2.7-litre twin-turbo ‘EcoBoost’ V6 engine, pushing out more than 330 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are connected to a six-speed automatic transmission, with a choice between all-wheel and front-wheel drives.

The new 2016 Lincoln MKX is a thing of beauty. Its luxurious exterior and interior design make this crossover shine, and on top of all this, the engine is pretty powerful. What more could a driver want from a crossover?

Power and Performance:

The 2016 MKX's standard engine is a 3.7-liter V-6 that's expected to make 300 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque, according to preliminary test data. A 2.7-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V-6, projected to put out over 330 horses and over 370 lb-ft of torque, will also be available. No matter which engine customers choose, it will be attached to a six-speed automatic, with available all-wheel drive. Lincoln claims that a number of upgrades to the suspension, body structure, and chassis improve the MKX's handling and ride quality. We'll have to see about that.

Interiors and Special Features:

The MKX remains a five-seater, but with those seats occupying nearly the space that some brands use for three-row vehicles, there’s plenty of room to spare in back, in terms of legroom and perhaps more importantly cargo space. In some versions there are 22-way power front seats with an active motion feature for less fatigue on long trips; front seats also now get thigh bolsters, which deflate for easier entry and exit.

The back seat of the MKX remains spacious enough for adults to go on double dates, or even longer road trips, four-up—all while allowing enough space for a large load of groceries or several suitcases; and we expect seat-folding to be at least as well-configured as the outgoing model, the 2016 MKX should continue to offer great versatility. As well, a height-adjustable liftgate should make it easier to use by shorter drivers, or within low garages.

Safety features:

Although it will likely be much later in the year before an MKX (or the rather closely related Ford Edge) is crash-tested, this model is looking very well equipped in terms of active-safety items. Adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping, a blind-spot information system, cross-traffic alert, and a pre-collision system are all available, while a camera system offers 180-degree and 360-degree views around the vehicle. Furthermore there are parking-assist features for perpendicular, parallel, and park-out maneuvers.
