Quick Look

The 2016 Ford Fiesta looks relatively the same on the outside, indicating no major updates to the exterior profile. Its most notable additions are found in the spacious front cabin, featuring comfortable seats and ample technical gadgets for the modern driver seeking a pleasant everyday companion. The subcompact stands out in fuel-efficiency, however, offering a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder EcoBoost engine that produces 123 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque, and is rated at 9.1 litres per 100 kilometres city and 6.6 litres per 100 kilometres highway. In terms of driving experience and reliability, the Fiesta adequately competes with rivals like the Honda Fit, Chevrolet Sonic, Kia Rio and the Hyundai Accent while providing an ultra-affordable, fuel-efficient choice for everyday driving.

Full Review

The 2016 Ford Fiesta is an enjoyable option for everyday driving, sporting modern trimming on the inside and energetic handling in performance. Fuel-efficiency is highly regarded in this subcompact vehicle and is aided by a speedy engine and manual transmission on most models. Equally notable is the vehicle’s array of technological capability, ranging from the most trivial to the most luxurious – depending on trim and packages. Though it lacks in backseat spaciousness and a stylish outward appearance, the 2016 Ford Fiesta compensates in functionality and reliability. This car will get you where you need to go and is a great option for everyday driving.

The new Fiesta’s exterior profile is minimally upgraded from the previous model, exhibiting a smoother body with hard accent creases for a laid back look. Besides a slightly adjusted body shape for enhanced speed, this vehicle includes very few external features that would be considered new. The signature hexagonal grille remains at the front end along with curved headlights to establish a broader stance, and the back end features better taillights and a larger trunk for ample cargo space. If you’re looking for a restyled Fiesta, this may not meet expectations as it keeps relatively the same look.

On the inside, however, the new Ford features an array of new additions for the driver seeking an impressively comfortable vehicle for a very good price. Inside cabins can be lined with either cloth or leather upholstery depending on the trim, and further includes detailed metallic accents for a sporty feel. Likewise, generous space is definitely appreciated up front but seems to fall short in the rear passenger seat. But rest assured, both driver and passengers will feel like they are riding in an upscale vehicle simply from the Fiesta’s interior alone. A multitude of additional features are also available depending on trims and packages, such as heated leather seating, remote keyless entry, Bluetooth connectivity, chrome trimming, satellite radio and a premium eight-speaker Sony sound system. But these are just a few of the options available across four trim levels and plenty of packages for the modern driver. A new addition to the 2016 Fiesta’s technological platform is the optional Sync 3 infotainment system, which effectively replaces the relatively complex MyFord Touch system in previous models. This simplified 6.5-inch touchscreen is incredibly intuitive and features a clear layout that can be utilized with pinch and swipe commands for a surprisingly user-friendly experience. It also facilitates in-call audio connectivity, voice-prompted navigation and emergency assist.

The 2016 Ford Fiesta receives the biggest upgrades in terms of performance, demonstrating standout road handling and tight, responsive steering for a very fun driving experience. The base model offers a 1.6-litre hour cylinder engine that produces 120 horsepower and 112 pound-feet of torque, paired with a standard manual transmission for optimized fuel efficiency. This setup is rated at 10.1 litres per 100 kilometers city and 7.8 litres per 100 kilometers highway - clearly superior in terms of both fuel consumption and performance. Optionally available is a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder EcoBoost engine, offered only with manual transmission, which produces 123 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque and is rated at 9.1 litres per 100 kilometres city and 6.6 litres per 100 kilometres highway. This engine is very peppy and fuel-efficient, making a great choice for the eco-minded driver.

Standard safety features include the usual suite of provisions, such as anti-lock brakes, traction and stability control and integrated blind-spot mirror. But higher trims offer additional features such as 911 Assist, rear view camera, rear view parking sensors and the Ford MyKey program, which can set electronic driving mode parameters to encourage responsible driving and promote good habits.

All in all, the 2016 Ford Fiesta provides a fun driving experience and is incredibly fuel-efficient. However, its modest interior space is also an important factor to consider.
