Full Review

The 2016 Ford F-150 sports a lean engine lineup that handles off-road duty, hails boats and stores plenty of cargo, to name a few of its several capabilities. Functionality is valued above all else, and this theme is integrated throughout exterior and interior styling and furthermore underlines technology features that work to aid and assist your driving experience. With a muscular stance and aerodynamic structure, the full-size pickup is a powerful vehicle that gets the job done. Known for its polished feel and rugged capabilities, the F-150 is a unique vehicle that doubles for everyday driving and towing capacity.

On the outside, the full-size pickup is overall lightweight and durable as a result of brand new building materials and a muscular frame. Glued and riveted over the entire body and bed are aluminum panels, which are built on a ladder frame made of high strength steel for definite durability. The pick-up effectively loses 300 kilograms in weight due to these lightweight materials. Likewise, every line and crease is clearly detailed for improved aerodynamics, while bringing a refined finish to the pick-ups bolder and blockier design. Aside from the redesigned structure, the new F-150 boasts a menacingly tall grille for dominant road presence, a bevelled hood to manage airflow and dialled-down headlamps as well. From the back end it holds a feature-packed cargo bed that includes LED lighting, loading ramps that lock into the bedsides, a tailgate step that slides out, as well as the F-150’s all-new BoxLink system for improved flexibility and organization. As a whole, this pick-up is incredibly capable and packs a variety of exterior features used to facilitate your cargo needs and improve your driving experience.

Available across five trim levels (XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum), the 2016 Ford F-150 features a rich interior and substantial space for your ultimate comfort. The cabin is upholstered with leather and detailed with real wood trim for an upscale feel, and likewise boasts a low beltline for improved visibility and tall, bevelled vents on the center console. Though the pick-ups main focus is functionality and thus adopts most of its upgrades on the outside, its interior core is designed with true leisure and is definitely a comfortable space to ride in.

Technology wise, the new F-150 offers a range of useful features such as Fords new Sync 3 infotainment system, which is operated by voice-activated technology on an 8-inch LCD touchscreen. Also new is the knob-activated ProTrailer Backup Assist program, which makes it easier to back up into tight spaces or boat launches with a trailer. This component makes things super easy as the system does the actual steering while you watch on the available 360-degree camera screen. Evidenced throughout the cabin is a clear appreciation for relaxed driving, as well as assistance and functionality. This full-size pick up is a great option not just for towing cargo, but also for everyday driving.

This years full-size pickup is offered with a leaner engine lineup that now counts three V6’s, two of them turbocharged, and just a single V8. Between these options, it’s largely a matter of personal choice and how much power you want. The smartest choice might be the new turbocharged 2.7-litre V6, outfitted with standard stop/start, if you’re somewhat in-between SUV driving and towing. It’s a lightweight and compact engine that has been specifically designed for F-150 drivers who don’t push max towing or payload limits. Rated at 325 horsepower and 375 pound-feet of torque, its paired smartly to the six-speed automatic transmission that is standard across the F-150 lineup and offers a fuel economy of 14.9 litres per 100 kilometres city and 10.9 litres per 100 kilometres highway. Most impressive are its towing capacity of 8,500 pounds and a payload capacity of up to 2,250 pounds – and it’s not even the most powerful engine available.

Safety features on the new F-150 are extensive and incredibly helpful while keeping both occupants and passengers in mind. New things like a second-row inflatable seatbelt and Curve Control for additional braking help complement usual features like airbags and stability control. Like most modern vehicles, the new Ford likewise offers the typical suite of provisions consisting of adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitors, lane-keeping assistant, and for pickups - locking tailgate and tonneau cover. The optional camera system with 360-degree visibility, however, is more notably seen in high-end vehicles but is undoubtedly convenient nonetheless.

All in all, the 2016 Ford F-150 is supplied with a great engine lineup and tons of exterior components that make towing as well as everyday driving seem like easy tasks. This could be the vehicle for you if you’re looking for a full-size pickup that can do everything – and then some.

Power and Performance:

The leaner engine lineup now counts three V-6s, two of them turbocharged, and just a single V-8. The drivetrain that makes the base six an also-ran is Ford's new turbocharged 2.7-liter V-6, outfitted with standard stop/start. It's a lightweight, compact engine that has seen lots of attention paid to make it a broad-spectrum choice for F-150 drivers that don't push max towing or payload limits. Rated at 325 horsepower and 375 pound-feet of torque, it's paired smartly to the six-speed automatic that's standard across the F-150 lineup. With V-8-like towing capacity of up to 8,500 pounds, and payload capacity of up to 2,250 pounds, the $795 optional engine is the smartest bet for truck owners who use their pickups more like SUVs.

Interiors and Special Features:

Once you get over the fact that your truck can drag hot-hatches off the line, you can appreciate the interior, which, admittedly, isn’t all that great. Sure it has lots of storage and bottle holders that make an Australian McDonald’s large-size Coke look smaller than a piccolo latte, it still doesn’t feel all that premium. Arguably, it’s fit for purpose, tough and solid inside, even if a little Spartan. We despise the Ford MyTouch infotainment system, as usual, but other than that it’s hard to really complain about the truck.

Safety features:

If safety is a priority, it's all here in the 2016 F-150. complemented by things like a second-row inflatable seat belt; additional braking help via Curve Control; adaptive cruise control; blind-spot monitors; and a lane-keeping system, which nudges the truck back into its lane when it detects a crossing of the double yellow. Some of the best additions are the simpler ones, though. A locking tailgate and tonneau cover turn the bed into a secure storage area. An optional set of cameras stitches together a 360-degree view around the F-150, for tucking it into a garage or a tight parking spot with an expert touch.
