Quick Look

The 2016 Dodge Journey, though mostly a carryover from last year’s upgrade, sports a variety of updates throughout the vehicle to make up for some significant losses. The cabin lacks comfortable seating and space with cramped legroom and headroom, while the base engine definitely needs updating for increased power. However, storage capability is impeccable as the Journey provides several compartments for large and small item storage. As such, Dodge’s MyLink infotainment system is seriously upgraded with new features and a better touchscreen. As a whole, this year’s Dodge Journey is great for everyday driving and hosts plenty of features that are sure to ease your driving experience.

Full Review

The 2016 Dodge Journey is an all-around great midsize crossover with a multitude of features and technical components to make your everyday driving experience easier and more engaged. Exterior and interior profiles are minimally upgraded, but sport a refined look nonetheless with crisp detailing and smooth surfaces. Seating seven passengers across an available three rows, the vehicle likewise lacks comfortable seating but compensates with great space for cargo storage. Engine power can be updated, but the available V6 provides this crossover with substantial strength for all your driving needs. Overall, the new Journey is impressively attractive and features a variety of conveniences for everyday driving.

As a largely carry-over model, the new Dodge is minimally updated on the outside with few adjustments here and there for overall aesthetic sophistication. While the vehicle’s body is built with more lightweight materials that hold strong for durability and toughness, staples like the crosshair grille with crossed body-coloured bars remain with slight refinement. The crosshair grille is chrome-trimmed, accompanying the nearby LED headlights and eye catching aluminum-alloy wheels for a collective sense of dominance on the front fascia. The 2016 Journey is indeed intimidating, featuring sleeker lines and accented creases.

While the Journey’s interior is lavishly lined with optional leather or standard cloth upholstery, there are a few things lacking in this year’s update. Passenger space in the front cabin is adequate, however there’s not much room in the second and third rows and occupants may feel confined in these close spaces. Headroom and legroom are clearly lacking in this vehicle. Though space is an issue, both rear seats and the passenger seat are able to flip and fold flat for storing cargo and accommodating larger items within the cabin. There are also hidden storage compartments under the seat cushion of the passenger seat.

The highlight of the interior can be found in Dodge’s Uconnect infotainment and navigation system, featured on an 8.4-inch touchscreen that is embedded in the center console. The screen is both large and easy to use, and further features supplementary climate and audio buttons for straightforward functionality. Other features include, but are not limited to a rear seat entertainment system, dual-zone climate control, Infinity speakers and Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity. Though the cabin lacks comfort and space, Dodge undoubtedly compensates with an upgraded technology suite designed to ease your driving experience.

The 2016 Dodge Journey receives carry-over engines as part of its drivetrain lineup, thus lacking increased power and performance. The base model utilizes a 2.4-litre inline-four engine that produces 173 horsepower and 166 pound-feet of torque, while delivering a fuel economy of 14.9 litres per 100 kilometres city and 10.9 litres per 100 kilometres highway. Though offering great fuel economy for a midsize crossover, the unit notably lacks power and might have trouble towing the large vehicle. Alternatively available is the more powerful 3.6-litre V6 engine that produces 283 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, while offering 17.7 litres per 100 kilometres city and 11.8 litres per 100 kilometres highway. This unit runs on all-wheel drive and is responsive and smooth – great for navigating rugged terrain and slippery roads. Standard safety features include traction and stability control, as well as anti-lock brakes. A rear view camera for parking assistance and distance alert functions are also available.

As it stands, the 2016 Dodge Journey is attractive and decently powerful with slight modifications made to the overall vehicle. Look no further than this vehicle to meet your everyday driving needs.
