Quick Look

The new 2016 BMW 6 Series is an absolutely stunning luxury vehicle. Sure, it doesn’t boast too many changes since its midterm facelift, but it’s still amazingly attractive.

Full Review

Regardless of whether you get in a coupe, convertible or four-door Gran Coupe form, the 2016 BMW 6 Series is a blast to drive. Exterior design, interior comfort and even the power the engine produces, BMW has done a great job in making sure it all fits together properly. But the best part about this vehicle is that it’s here to appeal to the average consumer. However, this does not mean that the automaker is not aiming to appeal to luxury car buyers anymore, because it is. However, the scope is much bigger now.

The exterior look of the new 2016 BMW 6 Series is nothing but luxurious. The twin-kidney grille is still here, and it’s as brilliant as ever in its simplicity. The LED headlights exist in the form of semi-circular shapes – with two of them on each side, one large one small. The fog lights below also feature LEDs, as well as new openings – the only major alteration done to the exterior design of this car. The rear view of the car is very simple and elegant. The taillights wrap around the side of the car, while the BMW logo is all there is at the back. There are also two dual exhausts near the bottom, which add a sense of sportiness to the vehicle.

Inside, BMW offers two leather choices – Dakota or Nappa – as well as a two-tone colour schemes. Looking at the alterations done to the interior functions, we see they have improved their telematics system. The front seats offer plenty of leg and headroom, but the back seats are too tight for adults. The controls are all well laid-out, though they may seem a bit complicated at first.

Under the hood, BMW 6 Series has a wide array of engines to offer. The highlight of the 2016 model is a twin-turbocharged and intercooled DOHC 32-valve V8. It can produce 445 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. The engine uses an eight-speed automatic transmission with a manual shifting mode. In terms of fuel efficiency, the 6 Series is rated at about 14 litres for every 100 kilometres in the city and 9 litres per 100 kilometres on the highway, which isn’t too bad considering how powerful the engine is. In addition to all this, this luxury car can reach 100 kilometres per hour in 4.5 seconds!

The 2016 BMW 6 Series is an amazing drive. It may still be a bit pricey for the average consumer, but it’s not as bad as it used to be, and this thing of beauty is definitely worth every penny.

Power and Performance:

The 6-Series is offered in two-door Coupe, two-door Convertible, and four-door Gran Coupe models, with each of them offering either a 315-horsepower, 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine in 640i models or a 445-hp, 4.4-liter V-8 in 650i models. Across all these models, the 6-Series packs speed and performance that scales with the owner’s desires. It's no lightweight sports car, for sure, as curb weights range from 4,200 pounds for the coupe to 4,500 pounds for the Gran Coupe, but with BMW’s eight-speed automatic transmission

Interiors and Special Features:

The 6 Series is impressive to sit in, its cockpit wide and the high-grade leather seats facing a hide-covered dashboard that looks interestingly busy but well-ordered. Those seats power every which way, as does the steering column, making it easy to get comfortable and see the instruments, which include BMW's excellent head-up display. The zoned climate control is easy to use and unobtrusively effective.

There's plenty of room up front, but anyone banished to the rear will need to be small because legroom is minimal despite this car's length. If you're often carrying four passengers, then it's the four-door 6 Series Gran Coupe that you need.

Safety features:

A night-vision camera system is available; so is lane-departure warning and adaptive cruise control with full-stop capabilities, pedestrian warning capabilities and auto-braking forward collision warning.
