Quick Look

The 2016 Audi TT is undoubtedly attractive with subtle modifications made to the vehicles front-end. However, the real highlight of this sport coupe can be found in the interior cabin where Audi’s industry-leading Multi-Media Interface has moved from the center stack to the driver’s gauge cluster, where it now sports dual functionality with infotainment and vehicle information. Though largely constraining in terms of passenger usability, the move constitutes Audi’s Virtual Cockpit objective whereby the entire cabin takes on an overall aircraft vibe. Complementing the coupe’s outwardly aggressive demeanour is a decently powerful 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, mated with six-speed S-Tronic manual transmission and running on Quattro all-wheel drive. Overall, this vehicle is great for luxury cruising where relatively all interior components are directed towards driver usability.

Full Review

The 2016 Audi TT sports a slightly altered exterior profile and completely revamped interior cabin for a ride that boasts overall style and convenience. This years update includes subtle changes to the vehicle’s front end, however the most significant modifications can be found in the upgraded Multi-Media Interface that moves from the center stack to combine with the drivers gauge cluster in an effort to create a Virtual Cockpit not unlike that of an aircraft. Though the interior is undoubtedly comfortable and spacious enough for two people, the new interface effectively hinders passenger control. Aside from updated aesthetic profiles, this sport coupe likewise features an athletic engine for accelerated cruising. All elements combined, your luxury car experience is sure to be heightened with the sporty charm of Audi.

On the outside, the new Audi TT incorporates slight modifications to its outer profile, resulting in a completely redesigned front fascia. Squared corners make for a slightly narrower body structure, while LED matrix headlamps and a trapezoidal single-frame grille complete the front end. There are also crisp accent creases along the hood whereby sleek sheet metal surrounds the vehicle for an overall elegant finish.

The Audi TT exhibits both style and class throughout its leather interior, offering an array of upscale finishes and technological capabilities for a cabin that is completely revamped and ultimately boasts comfort and connectivity. Padded and textured material lines the interior cabin while distinctive diamond patterning adorns available Nappa leather in higher trims. Ambient and accent lighting are also available, and there’s also plenty of space and more than enough legroom in the front cabin for relaxed cruising.

The highlight of this sport coupe can be found in the completely redesigned center stack which no longer features a central multimedia center. Instead, all infotainment controls have been moved entirely in front of the driver – thus combining gauge cluster functions and the new interface. The purpose of this redesign is to create the Virtual Cockpit feel that Audi seems intent on maintaining. However, the move from the center stack to the driver’s side effectively prohibits passenger usability. Regardless, Audi’s industry-leading Multi-Media Interface now exists in front of the driver on a 12.3-inch high-resolution display, and can be controlled by a touch-enabled scratchpad down at the center console. Replacing the display on the center stack are round, engine-like vents where climate settings are displayed in the middle areas. The dash also hangs at a slight angle over the passenger’s legs, resulting in an overall aircraft vibe and solidifying the Virtual Cockpit feel. Available Audi Connect capability further harnesses an embedded LTE data connection for enhanced Google Earth and Google Street View Displays, real-time traffic information, Bluetooth calling and audio streaming.

Under the hood is a decently powerful engine that definitely demands attention on the road and seeks dominance throughout. This vehicle is armed with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that is paired with six-speed S-Tronic automated manual transmission, and features direct fuel-injection technology while producing 230 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. This unit is exclusively offered with Quattro all-wheel drive. Besides its performance, the TT also features the Audi Drive Select program which allows drivers to choose a driving mode from Dynamic to Auto to Comfort, and further adjusts throttle response, transmission shifts and steering accordingly for better control. This years Audi also features an upgraded safety suite, now including secondary collision brake assist, side assist, active lane assist and parking assist.

Overall, the 2016 Audi TT is impressively refined in terms of exterior and interior profiles. If you’re looking for a powerful vehicle that is completely geared towards driver capability, this might be the best fit.

Power and Performance:

The Audi TT is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with turbocharging and direct injection, making 230 hp and 273 lb-ft. The engine in the high-performance TTS might have the same displacement—2.0 liters—but there’s more turbo boost, and all the core moving parts are stronger to suit, bringing its numbers up to 310 hp and 280 lb-ft. Six-speed S-tronic automated manual gearboxs do the shifting, and while you're not rowing your own, they're quicker and just as satisfying.

Interiors and Special Features:

While the TT is only evolutionary on the outside, its interior has received a radical redo. The cabin layout channels the sports-car vibe in a way that the TT never has before. With a dash that nixes the infotainment screen and center stack completely, infotainment controls and virtually everything interface-related have been moved in front of the driver, in a new Audi Virtual Cockpit display that uses a 12.3-inch high-contrast display, steering-wheel toggles, voice controls, and an MMI Touch scratch pad down at the center console. Round, nicely detailed vents have middle areas that display climate-control settings, and they press and twist. The dash hangs back at a slight angle over the passenger’s legs like an aircraft wing, with the array of round dash vents like engines. Distinctive trims and more interior colors add to the racier look.

Safety features:

Audi is ramping up active-safety features with this generation of the TT; and just as with the previous two generations of this sporty coupe or convertible, you can expect the same high standards of occupant protection here as in Audi’s sedans and crossovers. Secondary collision brake assist, which keeps the vehicle from continuing to roll when it’s been in an accident, is now standard on the entire model line. Audi Side Assist and an Active Lane Assist system will both be available—with the latter now offering a gentle pulse-warning through the steering wheel and including a higher-intevention mode that actually helps steer the vehicle to keep it in the travel lane. In overseas versions (and possibly for Canada), the TT and TTS offer a Park Assist feature that will measure up parking spots and steer tha car into place while the driver controls the rest.
