Quick Look

The 2015 Mercedes-Benz SLK250 is no commuter vehicle, but as a convertible-coupe, it’s one of the best. It looks slick and it has a solid 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 201 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque. Its main downside is the lack of space in its cabin since its rear seats are non-existent and its front seats lack proper legroom, particularly for taller people.

Full Review

The 2015 Mercedes-Benz SLK250 is a stylish and powerful convertible-coupe that delivers plenty of solid features. It’s not exactly meant for driving around the track, but it’s still a fun vehicle for cruising around the city or down a highway. It’s definitely aimed for people who already have their go-to vehicle and just looking for something fun on the side since it’s not really all that practical. It’s still a fantastic car, but if you’re looking for a commuter vehicle, then this is not it.

With its power-operated retractable hardtop, the 2015 SLK250 can look either as a sleek coupe or top-level roadster. But regardless of which form you prefer, the two-seater has character lines similar to its bigger and more expensive sibling, the SL-Class. At roughly 414 centimetres of length, which makes it about a half-foot longer than the Mazda MX-5 Miata, the SLK250 is uncompromisingly compact and easy to maneuver in tight spaces. It does, however, feature a long hood and low, wide stance, which endow the convertible with some substance. And if you settle for the top-of-the-line SLK55 AMG variant, you will get slightly improved design, which highlights the vehicle’s performance-driven nature, offering tinted headlight housings, quad exhaust outlets and a small rear spoiler.

Inside, the Mercedes-Benz SLK250 demonstrates very clearly that it’s no sport car, like some of its competitors. However, it does provide everyday comfort and usability. The SLK's seats are a treat, and you can cover them either in leather-imitating MB-Tex or genuine leather. However, the front row does lack legroom, which will be especially pronounced if you are tall. In terms of electronics – everything is where you want it to be. The audio and climate controls are easy to find and use, with a neat tactile quality that highlight the fact that this is a premium car. The vehicle also offers a standard panorama roof that allows you to see the sky even with the top up. There’s an option to upgrade to the Magic Sky Control feature, which you can use to adjust the level of tinting.

Under the hood, the SLK250 features a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 201 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque. It’s connected to a six-speed manual transmission, with the seven-speed automatic being optional. It comes with a turbo lag, but that shouldn’t deter the majority of drivers. That said, the SLK250’s competitor, the base BMW Z4, can produce 240 horsepower. So, if you are looking for more power, then you’re better off picking of the higher SLK trims. Like the other SLK convertibles, the 250 variant is rear-wheel drive and consumes 91-octane gasoline.

Overall, the 2015 Mercedes-Benz SLK250 is definitely worth a purchase. It’s not for everyone, but it’s still an extremely likeable vehicle.
