Full Review

The 2015 Lincoln Navigator gets a major refresh for the new model year. The upgrades are quite notable since the Navigator offers fresh exterior and interior design and a plethora of new features. Most importantly, the Navigator gets a new engine that improves fuel economy and makes it a more attractive purchase overall. The Navigator was first introduced for the 1998 model year and is currently in its third generation, which was released in 2007. This full-size luxury SUV has fallen behind the times and was in a desperate need of a refresh for the last few years – which it finally got. This people-carrying vehicle will please any large family with its spaciousness and even style.

The exterior of the 2015 Navigator adds some cool upgrades and features, which contribute to the already prominent road presence. The most visible upgrade is the large split-wing grille, which is a new trademark for Lincoln. Also new are HID headlamps, LED running lights, full LED taillights and 20-inch wheels, which replace the previously standard 18-inch wheels. The upgraded profile of the Lincoln offers power-folding heated outside mirrors, power-retractable step running boards and a power liftgate. The redesigned backend adds style, while the new roof rack provides both style and function. This full-size SUV is a dominant vehicle on the road, and now its features are catching up in terms of functionality as well.

The interior of the Navigator also gets some much needed improvements for 2015. The feeling of luxury is more evident than ever with the new upgraded leather and wood trim. The cabin of the Navigator is as spacious as ever, making this car the true people hauler that it was meant to be. The SUV comes standard with second-row bucket seats, making it capable of carrying seven people, but it can be configured to seat eight by replacing the bucket seats with a 40/20/40 split bench. The redesigned instrument cluster adds the return of tactical controls such as knobs and buttons, which make it much more functional. The infotainment system, MyLincoln Touch, is displayed on an eight-inch touchscreen. It offers touchscreen control over the hands-free phone, audio, navigation and climate functions. Although there are some functionality issues with this system, overall it is relatively user-friendly. The 2015 Navigator not only does its job of carrying lots of people and their cargo, but it also adds some updated luxury and functionality.

The Lincoln Navigator comes with some very attractive features for the 2015 model that make it more desirable than ever. The Navigator drops its gas-guzzling V8 engine and replaces it with a more economic yet still powerful twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine. The Navigator continues to reign as the champion of pay-load capacity for its segment. This SUV can tow a best-in-class 9,000 pounds with the optional tow package installed. Another segment-leading feature of the Navigator is the power-folding third-row bench. With just a touch of a button, the third row will fold flat into the floor of the Navigator. This feature saves owners from the hassle that the competition drivers will experience by having to take out and store heavy, awkward seats. With the third row removed, cargo space is increased to 103.3 cubic feet of cargo space. The Navigator L model adds an extended wheelbase, which will increase cargo space to a huge 128.2 cubic feet.

As was already mentioned, under the hood of the Lincoln Navigator is a brand new 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 engine that produces 370 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. The Navigator comes standard with a six-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive with available all-wheel drive. Despite the smaller engine, the 2015 Navigator promises to not only be more fuel-efficient, but also more powerful than the previous model.

Overall, the 2015 Lincoln Navigator introduces new upgrades and additions that significantly increase the style, function and capability of this full-size luxury SUV. The Navigator was in desperate need of the refresh that it received transforming this vehicle from a bottom-of-class vehicle to a competitor in the segment.

Power and Performance:

Bigger changes come where they're needed most: under the hood. The current V8 engine is replaced with a twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 estimated at 370 horsepower. The downsized engine makes slightly more power than the outgoing V8 yet promises better fuel efficiency, while its 430 pound-feet of torque (estimated) should make the Navigator equal to any toy hauler in the class, luxury or otherwise. The new V6 pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission routing power to the rear wheels or to an available all-wheel-drive system.

Interiors and Special Features:

The upgraded 2015 Lincoln Navigator's interior is a solid improvement over earlier models. With stitched leather available on the dash, along with Ziricote wood trim – the kind used on yachts and high-end guitars – the luxury quotient is suitably met for a vehicle with a starting price in the $60,000 range. Other touches include MyLincoln Touch and its upgraded center stack controls. Yet the big SUV is still practical, with available seating for eight, and tremendous cargo capacity, especially in the longer L models, which dedicate most of their extra length to cargo space.

Safety features:

Finally, standard safety equipment includes the government mandated antilock braking (ABS), traction and stability control, side-mounted and 3-row head airbags of yore, along with standard front fog/driving lights, daytime running lights and turn-signal-integrated mirrors. Additionally, a post-collision safety system and remote antitheft alarm, again complemented by Ford/Lincoln’s touted MyKey programmable speed and audio limiting system, all return in the next-gen Navigator and remain bolstered by SOS post-collision alert technology.
