Quick Look

The Lincoln MKS is the flagship full-size sedan in this luxury lineup that comes with several modifications for 2015. This is Lincoln’s attempt to appeal to a younger audience in a bid to boost its popularity.

Full Review

The 2015 Lincoln MKS is the flagship sedan in the Lincoln lineup, sharing the D3 platform with the Ford Taurus as well as other vehicles in the lineup. It comes in three trim levels, which represent their powertrain configuration: the FWD, AWD and EcoBoost. The Lincoln MKS is a bit of an underdog in the segment, but don’t look past it if a ton of features, space and luxury is what you’re looking for.

Lincoln has refreshed the look of the MKS for 2013, which is essentially what we are getting for 2015. The new face of Lincoln is distinguished by the prominent winged grille and vertical louver-like slats. In combination with its adaptive HID headlights, they take up most of the front end. The hood has contours that contribute to the overall good looks of this vehicle. The profile is well-proportioned and sleek, giving the MKS a modest yet beautiful style. The tail end is treated to twin tailpipes that underscore the power of this vehicle. The MKS FWD and AWD ride on 19-inch wheels and come with automatic high beams and fog lamps to add to the practicality of this sedan.

The interior of the Lincoln MKS is equipped with good style, materials and space that will please most luxury sedan shoppers. There are nice touches like the sweeping lines and ambient lighting, which highlight the luxury of this vehicle. The materials used throughout the cabin are of high quality, and standard heating and cooling seats are a nice touch. The cabin is spacious since even the rear seat passengers are treated to generous head and leg room. The trunk is one of the largest in the segment with 19.2 cubic feet of space.

The instrument panel in the Lincoln MKS can be a bit overwhelming at first as there are many controls and interfaces to navigate, but the confusion is alleviated a bit thanks to the steering wheel controls. Once these are mastered, using all of the features is a much easier task. The MyLincoln Touch interface is standard on the MKS and consists of three screens to display the different audio, phone and navigation functions available. There are several customization possibilities, which are helpful, but the system unfortunately does have a bit of a learning curve and is prone to glitches, causing it to freeze.

The Lincoln MKS is available with two engines, which depend on your chosen trim level. The FWD and AWD models are equipped with a 3.7-litre V6 engine that’s good for 304 horsepower and 279 pound-feet of torque. This engine can be equipped with a SelectShift six-speed automatic transmission that can be manually shifted. Predictably, the FWD is a front-wheel-drive model, while the AWD is an all-wheel-drive option. The EcoBoost trim is powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V7 EcoBoost that puts out 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. This engine is connected to a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

Overall, the 2015 Lincoln MKS is a great option for the buyer in need of space, style and luxury. There are a few downfalls, like its lacklustre infotainment system, that may be hard to overlook for some, but generally the good definitely outweighs the bad here.

Safety features:

The 2015 Lincoln MKS comes standard with stability and traction control, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags, antilock brakes, a rearview camera and rear parking sensors. Also standard is a MyKey feature that allows owners to set certain driving parameters for teen drivers. Sync also offers an emergency crash notification service that automatically dials 911 in the event of an airbag deployment.

Options include adaptive cruise control combined with a frontal collision warning with brake support (it primes the brake system to reduce braking distances in a potential panic stop) along with blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning systems and lane-keeping assist.
