The 2015 Jeep Cherokee maintains most of the specs from the 2014 redesign, but it does introduce better fuel efficiency. While it may be difficult for some to see past the controversial exterior design, the Jeep Cherokee actually has a lot to offer.
The Jeep Cherokee got an extensive overhaul in 2014 after an 11-year stint with Jeep Liberty badging, which produced mediocre-at-best results. Back with Cherokee branding, the 2014 model has received a complete redesign, including a controversial exterior look. Aesthetics opinions aside, the 2014 Jeep Cherokee was released with many notable upgrades making it a great compact crossover SUV. The 2015 model maintains the design and features of the 2014 offering, but adds a fuel-saving feature. The Cherokee is a great blend of off-road capabilities, interior space and fuel economy, which make it a top contender in an extremely competitive segment.
The exterior design of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee is what will have most buyers torn on this vehicle. It is definitely unique and, to some, may be considered downright ugly. The Jeep badging and the barely-recognizable front grille are the only details that really relate this car to the rest of its family. The grille gets an awkward horizontal kink through the middle of it as the portals move from the front end onto the hood. Admittedly, the car does look better in reality than pictures, but it will still take some warming up to. The top-of-the-line Trailhawk model will upgrade the overall aggressive look of the car by adding an elevated ride height, a tweaked front and rear ends, among other things. There is no doubt that the Cherokee will turn heads, but it may just be for the wrong reasons.
On the inside, the Cherokee is more identifiable as far as the Jeep DNA goes. The layout of the controls and knobs is clean and simple. The interior also maintains a high-quality look that puts it a step above the competition. Not only will the look of the Cherokee be surprising, but the space is also exceptional. Rear passengers are treated to ample headroom, and legroom is also acceptable. It’s quite easy to get comfortable in the Cherokee, but unfortunately, that comfort does come at the expense of cargo space, which is limited in comparison to other compact SUVs. The available dual sunroofs are a pretty cool feature for bringing the outdoors in for the optimal driving experience. The front roof opens completely, while the rear glass is fixed. If you are able to get past the exterior and make it into a Jeep for a test ride, you may actually be impressed with what you see.
There are some pretty cool technology features that are available on the Cherokee as well. There is an optional wireless device charging pad that will make sure all of your gadgets have full power for any of the phone calls you may need to make through the Bluetooth and smartphone integration system. These smartphone capabilities can all be displayed on an 8.4-inch touchscreen interface.
One of the best features in the Jeep Cherokee is its powertrain. All Cherokees come standard with the world’s first-ever nine-speed automatic transmission. Thanks to this exceptional transmission, the vehicle will always be in the right gear since there are plenty of them to choose from, which will in turn conserve fuel.
Drivers have a choice of two engines. The first is a 2.4-litre four-cylinder that produces 184 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque, while the other is a 3.2-litre V6 engine that generates 271 horsepower and 239 pound-feet of torque.
An additional feature that enhances the driving experience of the Cherokee, aside from the all-wheel drive, is the Selec-Terrain dial which allows the driver to control traction based on driving conditions. Drivers have the option of Auto, Snow, Sport or Sand/Mud. The Cherokee is able to handle steep slopes and difficult driving terrains, solidifying its presence as a Jeep through-and-through.
Despite the rough exterior design, the 2015 Jeep Cherokee has really proven itself as a capable and well-designed compact SUV.
