Quick Look

The 2015 Jaguar XK is the last of its model and it’s uncertain when we can expect to see a new one, so get one while you can. Unfortunately, this year’s XK is being overshadowed by the all-new F-Type, but that’s no reason to shove this beautiful and powerful car aside.

Full Review

Jaguar has always been known for the level exclusivity that it can offer to its buyers. Automaker’s cars don’t sell at the same velocity as its German rivals, but to some this notion is actually an attractive quality. This car is not only beautiful, but it also has power and refinement that stand up well to any of the competition. New for 2015, Jaguar has added adaptive headlights and HD radio as standard features. Jaguar has scaled back some the trim options, now only offering three trims: XK, XKR and XKR-S. These trims are available in both coupe and convertible body styles.

In its final year of production (until further notice) Jaguar will be releasing a special Final Fifty Limited Edition to commemorate the lineup. It serves as proof (in our eyes anyway) that the 2015 Jaguar XK fully embraces the definition of what it means to be a luxury sport vehicle.

The exterior look of the Jaguar XK is elegant, sleek and truly beautiful. This car stands out on the road simply by existing. The short trunk and long nose are classic coupe proportions that offer a bit of a nod to the classic Jaguar E-Type. The standard XK comes equipped with 20-inch wheels, automatic bi-xenon headlamps, LED running lamps and a rear spoiler. The mid-level XKR adds exclusive wheels and exhaust outlets, while the XKR-S comes with a ventilated hood, unique bodywork and a carbon-fiber spoiler. The convertible body definitely looks best with the top-down, which can be achieved in just 18 seconds. The sleek and sexy shell that this XK is wrapped in is all made of aluminum, allowing for better performance than the plush presentation might suggest.

While the cabin of the Jaguar XK hasn’t seen a real overhaul since its debut in 2007, the tweaks throughout the years have kept it fairly up-to-date, comfortable and good-looking. The cabin design is defined by its simple shapes and layout. The minimal number of buttons enhances this and also makes for a very straightforward organization that will be appreciated by owners. Elegant highlights can be found throughout the vehicle within the wood or metallic trims, plush leather and soft-touch materials. Even the buttons and knobs are made with a material that is not only beautiful, but tactile as well.

Cabin space in the XJ is okay for two front passengers and though, technically, it is a four-passenger vehicle, putting adults in the back seat is borderline cruel. The rear seats are best kept for extra luggage or small kids. The trunk space in the coupe is ample, exceeding that of most competition at 11.7 cubic feet. The convertible loses a bit of trunk space when the top is down to a respectable 7.1 cubic feet.

The technology features on the XK, while plentiful, can be very frustrating to use. It really is unfortunate for Jaguar that they have allowed this model to fall so far behind in terms of technology features. The XK gets a multipurpose touchscreen that operates audio, climate, navigation and Bluetooth phone and audio system. The actual systems work fairly well, but they are not as user-friendly as most of the competing systems. Navigating menus can be difficult and reaching commonly-used functions can be difficult.

As for powertrains, the XK lineup gets only one engine, but it gets more and more powerful as you move up the trim levels.  The base XK is powered by a 5.0-litre V8 engine that produces 385 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. All XKs come standard with rear-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission. The XKR gets a supercharged version of the same engine to generate 510 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque. The XKR-S gets an even more powerful version of this engine that supercharges it to produce 550 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque.

Overall, the Jaguar XK series is one that should not be overlooked in the compact luxury coupe and convertible segments or even the Jaguar lineup for that matter. This car offers exclusivity, beauty and power that can hold its own. The only real issue is its lagging technology, but if this is something you can overlook, then we say get it before it’s gone.

Interiors and Special Features:

The Jaguar XK's cockpit is well tailored and inviting, with special touches like a rotary gear selector that rises out of the center console upon start-up. However, it lacks the design flair of Jaguar's other models and there are some ergonomic glitches. The multipurpose touchscreen that operates audio, climate, navigation and phone systems works fairly well, but still isn't as user-friendly as most competing systems. Another downside involves the rear seats, which are cramped even for small children. The cabin can also be a little claustrophobic, with a rakish greenhouse and slim windows making the Jag feel more akin to an Aston Martin than a BMW 6 Series.
