Quick Look

The 2015 Dodge Durango delivers in-your-face looks, luxurious cabin and two solid engines to choose from. It’s not as off-road-ready as its bulky appearance would suggest, but it’s still more than capable of traversing rugged terrains when necessary. Its most powerful engine is a 5.7-litre V8 engine, which can produce 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque.

Full Review

The 2015 Dodge Durango is a bulky and boxy crossover SUV that unfortunately isn’t as off-road-ready as its appearance would lead you to believe. You can still take it across rugged terrains, if you wish, but it’s necessarily meant for that, instead delivering superb on-road performance – along with a luxurious cabin and plenty of features. It’s a high-quality machine, which isn’t all that surprising, considering that it’s based on the same architecture as the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class and M-Class, as well as the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

On the outside, the 2015 Durango comes with LED eyeliners under the projector-beam headlights, which fulfill the role of daytime running lights. The SUV can have one out of Dodge’s three cross-hair grilles – all of which meant to complement the corresponding trim. There’s also a nice collection of LEDs making a double span across the back end – which can be aptly named as the “racetrack taillight display.” The R/T trim distinguishes itself from the rest of the lineup with a more body-coloured trim and lower ride height. The other trims come with more brightwork, particularly the top-of-the-line Citadel. Wheel sizes range from 18 to 20 inches, which is standard in a vehicle such as this.

Inside, the 2015 Durango displays luxury-car quality and workmanship by delivering more comfort, top-notch materials and overall elegance than ever before – all of which are highlighted by an extremely quiet ride. The higher-end trims, such as Limited and Citadel, also offer heated and ventilated front seats as well as heated second-row seats

The SUV allows for 28 possible configurations, which let you shuffle cargo and people in every way you wish. You can also fold third- and second-row seats down to create 84.5 cubic feet of cargo room. And if you go for the R/T trim, you will enjoy a purposeful black-colour scheme, highlighted by bright trim elements. The Durangos with second-row captain’s chairs offer a new pass-through feature that eases your access to the third seating row. As far as tech features go, one of the highlights is the 8.4-inch touchscreen – though in order to get it, you will need to upgrade to Durango’s base audio system.

Under the hood, the 2015 Durango can have one out of two possible engines. All models – except the R/T – get Chrysler’s award-winning 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine that produces 290 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. It’s without a doubt one of Chrysler’s best engines, producing more than enough power to please the majority of SUV drivers – without sacrificing even a drop of fuel economy. The other available engine is a 5.7-litre Hemi V8 that cranks out 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. It also has a fuel-saver mode that can turn off four of the eight cylinders when you don’t need full power. No matter which engine you choose, you will be treated to a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive, though all-wheel drive is available as well.

It’s hard to fault the 2015 Dodge Durango for anything really. It’s one of the finest SUVs on the market – with a very decent price too. So, if you need a quality family vehicle, then this will definitely be worth a consideration.

Power and Performance:

The 2015 Dodge Durango offers a choice between a more efficient V-6 engine and a powerful HEMI V-8. Both are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, new to the lineup last year.

For those who want the Durango's passenger space but don't need to tow thousands of pounds regularly--most of us--the 3.6-liter V-6 is the better choice. With 290 horsepower (295 when equipped with the Rallye Package) and 260 pound-feet of torque, it's quick enough and strong enough, and it's no longer boomy at midrange speeds as we've observed in the past. Coupled to the eight-speed automatic--with a rotary shift control, a nice touch--the Durango six-cylinder gets up to 20 mpg combined, too--not great by any means, but a solid improvement.

Interiors and Special Features:

The interior of the 2015 Dodge Durango reflects luxury-car quality and craftsmanship, an update emphasizing comfort, premium materials, visual elegance and supreme quiet. Limited and Citadel trims offer such features as heated and ventilated front seats and heated 2nd-row seating. The Durango's 28 possible configurations allow for any combination of people and cargo, from the roomy spot behind the 2nd-row seat to the full-length flat cargo floor created by the flush-folding front passenger seat. A purposeful black color scheme, highlighted by bright trim elements, distinguishes the sporty R/T, and in Durangos equipped with 2nd-row captain's chairs a new pass-through feature eases 3rd-row access.

Safety features:

Antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, trailer sway control, front side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags are standard on every 2015 Dodge Durango. A rearview camera and parking sensors are optional on the SXT and standard on all other Durangos.

The 8.4-inch touchscreen includes Uconnect Access, an emergency telematics system that offers emergency assistance and stolen vehicle tracking. The Limited's Safety, Security and Convenience package gets you a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-path alert. The Technology package, available on R/T and Citadel, adds a forward collision warning system that sounds a chime and can also jerk the brakes to alert you when a collision seems imminent.
