Quick Look

The 2015 Dodge Charger boasts a completely new body, revamped interior and several new engines. The hardcore enthusiasts will definitely appreciate the new SRT Hellcat model, which comes with a 6.3-litre V8 engine that produces the amazing 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. The base 3.6-litre V6 engine is far more modest, producing only 293 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque.

Full Review

The 2015 Dodge Charger looks like a completely new car thanks to a striking redesign that has changed the front end entirely and modified the overall look to make it seem lower, sleeker and more contemporary. What’s amusing is that its basic body shape is still the same – but you won’t know it. Dodge has also revised the vehicle’s cabin, added several new features and revamped the powertrains. And if you haven’t heard about the addition of the new ultra-powerful SRT Hellcat model, now is the time.

In terms of exterior design, Dodge has manages to modify almost every single body part- except the roof and rear doors. The Charger’s square-cut front and rear have lost their visual bulk, though the vehicle is actually the same length as before – in spite of looking 8 to 10 inches smaller. It’s essentially a full-size sedan that feels midsize, which is a significant achievement in its own right. The front is lower, sporting an almost BMW-like bevel on the redesigned hood. The blacked-out Dodge crosshair grille is slimmer now, bracketed by projector headlights, which feature distinctive C-shaped LED daytime running lights. There is also a set of separate LED light units in the new front bumper. R/T model feature a bumper bar, the centre of which is blacked-out – similarly to the smaller Dodge Dart.

Inside, 2015 Charger lower-end models are almost the same as the SRT Hellcat variants – aside from a few minor differences. In the Hellcat, the analog gauges a set deeper into the dash to create a three-dimensional effect. You will also find metallic trim, a thick T-handle shifter and leather or suede upholstery, which endow the vehicle with a premium feel. Other upscale features include a 8.4-inch touchscreen display, a heated, flat-bottom steering wheel with standard paddle shifters, heated and ventilated sport seats and an 18-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.

Under the hood, the new Charger offers several engine configurations. The base models come with a Pentastar 3.6-litre V6 that produce only 293 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, which is a bit lower than one might expect from a “Charger.” It does deliver decent fuel economy ratings, however, unlike its cousin in the SRT Hellcat, consuming only 9.1 litres per 100 kilometres on the highway. The SXT model comes with a more powerful version of the engine, which produces 300 horsepower and 264 pound-feet of torque. Both V6’s come standard with rear-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive is optional. There’s also a 5.7-litre Hemi V8, which pumps out 370 horsepower and 395 pound-feet of torque – available in rear-wheel-drive form only. Finally, the SRT Hellcat comes with the ultra-powerful 6.3-litre V8 that pumps out the staggering 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, which means that it’s probably not for you – unless you are a car nut, of course. All the engines in the lineup are offered with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Overall, the 2015 Dodge Charger is a monster of a vehicle that’s well worth your money. It’s base models may not measure up to the now famous SRT Hellcat, but they don’t have to since they are quite fast regardless of that. If you are an enthusiast, then definitely check it out.

Power and Performance:

Without question, the standout of the 2015 Charger lineup is the 707 horsepower SRT Hellcat. But that doesn't mean every Charger is a tire roasting monster reserved for the hardcore enthusiast.

On the contrary, the Charger ships in base SE and SXT forms with a peppy but not over-the-top 292 horsepower 3.6L V6 that's linked to a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic. And the Charger V6 returns very decent fuel economy -- 19mpg in the city and 31mpg on the highway, besting its front-wheel drive competition from Chevrolet and Ford. The Charger V6 models can also be equipped with all-wheel drive to help battle slippery winter conditions.

Interiors and Special Features:

The 2015 Dodge Charger Hellcat shares the same cabin design as lower-trim Chargers, but adds subtle changes. Analog gauges are set deeper into the dash for a three-dimensional effect. Metallic trim, a thick T-handle shifter and leather/suede upholstery make for a modern, premium feel. A heated, flat-bottom steering wheel with standard paddle shifters, heated and ventilated sport seats, a 8.4-inch touchscreen display and an 18-speaker Harman Kardon audio system round out some of the upscale features.

Safety features:

Previous models of the Charger earned the highest five-star overall score in NHTSA safety testing, and it's been an IIHS Top Safety Pick in years past. A rearview camera system, active cruise control, and blind-spot monitors are available in addition to all the expected standard items.

Even the base Charger SE trim level includes power windows, locks, and mirrors; air conditioning; cruise control; pushbutton start; a power driver's seat; and an AM/FM/CD audio system with touchscreen control. The SXT level adds a number of additional features, and for 2015, six new 20-inch alloy wheel designs are available, including a 20x9 inch forged aluminium wheel option. Dodge has also upgraded the paint colors, adding a set of 'heritage' color options, including B5 Blue and TorRed. The revised Charger also adds several new technical features, including the latest version of Uconnect services, which incorporate 9-1-1 and assist call, roadside assistance calling options, theft alert, voice texting and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
