Full Review

The Audi A5 lineup is packed full of beautifully-designed, well-equipped and powerful vehicles, and the S5 variant, which sits in the middle of this, is no exception. This car puts an athletic spin on the design and performance of the standard A5, making it a very appealing option for those looking to pack some extra punch in their whip. The S5 was introduced as a coupe alternative to the A5 in 2007, while the cabriolet (or Sportback) body was introduced in 2010. The coupe-style S5 is a sleek two-door vehicle that distinguishes itself from its younger sibling through minor design tweaks and major power upgrades. This vehicle hits all the right notes for a luxury sport coupe, never going over the top, but still managing to be a desirable and luxurious vehicle.

The S5 coupe is defined by its sleek exterior appearance that stays consistent with the lineup in that it doesn’t try to be something it’s not, but still manages to add sporty details that set it apart on the road. Audi has hit the mark when it comes to displaying how beautiful doesn’t need to be flashy. The coupe is defined by its sloping roof that pulls all of the lines back for a very assertive and dominating look. The S5 shows its similarities to the A5 through its elegant design and well-proportioned body. Where the S5 differs from the A5 is in its aggressive and bold nature. The S5 has sculpted sheet metal that makes this car more aerodynamic – perfect for sport driving. The S5 gets a unique, mesh front grille, LED lighting details and a retractable rear spoiler. This car manages to evoke the look of a classic sports car, while staying relevant with modern touches.

Audi has made a name for itself building some of the most beautiful cabins in the market today. The top-shelf materials that it used to construct the interiors of its vehicles really set them apart from the competition. Build quality is impeccable and attention to detail is unmatched. The interior of the S5 sets itself apart from the A5 with its Nappa leather, carbon fibre, stainless steel and piano-black plastic. The S5 is not only a beautiful and luxurious place to spend time, but it is also a comfortable place to do so – at least for front-seat passengers. The seats are comfortable enough for long trips, but also supportive enough for spirited driving. The rear seats have extremely compromised headroom due to the sloping roofline, making it suitable for small passengers or cargo only. The cargo space in the coupe is 12.2 cubic feet, and the folding rear seats can increase this number by even more.

The technology on the S5 is sophisticated and downright impressive, even to the most tech-savvy drivers. The S5 comes equipped with Audi’s infotainment system, Multi Media Interface (MMI), which does the ever-important job of displaying and controlling all of the entertainment and information features on the S5. The available navigation system comes bundled with a rearview camera, HD radio, a DVD player and Google Earth maps with Street View, if paired with Audi Connect. Audi Connect is Audi’s mobile data service that enables features like Google Local search, real-time traffic and weather updates. The MMI system is displayed on an impressive screen that offers crisp graphics and beautiful resolution.

Under the hood of the Audi S5 is a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 engine that produces 333 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that brings this car from 0-60 mph in just five seconds. The S5 comes standard with Audi’s all-wheel-drive system called Quattro.

Overall, the 2015 Audi S5 coupe checks off all of the boxes for luxury sport coupes. This car doesn’t only look bold, but also has a refined cabin, upgraded technology and plenty of power. The Audi lineup is full of amazing cars, and the S5 is no exception.

Power and Performance:

The S5 sits in the middle of the range, thanks to a 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 rated at 333 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. The S5 accelerates to 60 mph in just 5.0 seconds, according to Audi. A stiffer suspension tune and better brakes improve sport driving characteristics, and Audi's fantastic seven-speed dual-clutch transmission provides crisp, lightning-quick shifts both up and down the gear range.

Interiors and Special Features:

The A5's cabin is lavish and luxurious, with clean and simple design themes executed in high-grade materials. Ample fine details, such as the intricate instruments and light application of metallic trim on switches and buttons add a high-end touch. There's a definite note of the business world in the dash's expanse, but it coordinates well with the two-tone leather and suede seats and the choice of aluminum or piano-black trim.

Safety features:

High sticker prices and low sales volumes keep the agencies that evaluate safety from crash-testing the Audi A5 lineup, so the 2015 model hasn't been rated by NHTSA or the IIHS. However, a long list of standard and available safety equipment earns it high marks in our book.
