One of the biggest selling Lexus models around the world is about to win everybody’s hearts all over again as a return to the Lexus lineup with the all-new 2014 Lexus ES 300h. The redesigned exterior is worth a triple-take when you see this beauty cruise down the street. The sleek and sophisticated design and luxurious interior make you feel like royalty when you take the 2014 Lexus ES 300h out for a spin.

The body design of the 2014 Lexus ES 300h features a dramatically flowing silhouette that conveys both a refined and undeniably sporty presence. Longer cabin proportions lead to a sleeker rear window design offering distinct elegance to the side profile. LED daytime running headlights have been sculpted into a striking arrowhead design, which integrate neatly with the dynamic headlamps leading into a signature Lexus spindle grille.

On the back of the 2014 Lexus ES 300h, the LED taillights match perfectly with the wider stance of this luxury sedan, all together composing a wider posture for the entire vehicle. Polished 17-inch alloy wheels enhance the distinctive design of the 2014 ES 300h creating a unique presence on the road.

Door openings on the 2014 Lexus ES 300h have been reshaped for easy entry and exit. In the back, the increased headroom and lower center seat make it possible to comfortably seat three adults in the rear. Since no two bodies are the same, 10-way power front seats ensure that the perfect position will be available for any passenger that steps in the car.

The 2014 Lexus ES 300h also offers several features you would expect in a luxury sedan, including dual climate control, heated front seats, and an electronically operated rear window shade. These features all help to create an optimal temperature for all of your passengers.

The controls featured on the steering wheel allow for the driver to easily control Bluetooth, entertainment, and navigation functions, without having to take their eyes off of the road. The voice command in the 2014 ES 300h allows you to place a phone call or even input an address directly into the navigation system.

The 2014 Lexus ES 300h is powered by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine and an electric motor powered by a battery pack. The two of them combined produce 200-horsepower and 156 pound-feet of torque. The drive inside is pleasantly smooth as the electric motor provides an easy ride that doesn’t create much cabin noise. Although hybrids generally don’t perform as well in the power department, the 2014 ES 300h has more than acceptable performance and offers a responsive and sporty ride. The handling is nicely weighted and the car loves tackling tight turns and windy roads.

Fuel efficiency ratings for the 2014 Lexus 300 hybrid are always a delight to hear. The car receives 5.88 L/100km in the city and 6.03 L/100km on the highway.

The 2014 Lexus ES 300h is easily one of the top hybrid luxury models that are currently available on the market. For a beautiful car that won’t be heavy on your wallet, the 2014 Lexus ES 300h is definitely an option worth looking into.

Power and Performance:

The 2014 Lexus ES 300h features a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor (powered by a battery pack) that together produce 200 horsepower. Front-wheel drive and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) are standard.

In Edmunds testing, the ES 300h went from zero to 60 mph in 7.8 seconds, which isn't quick for a conventional entry-level luxury sedan but pretty good for a hybrid. EPA-estimated fuel economy is an excellent 5.88 L/100km combined (5.88 L/100km city/ 6.03 L/100km highway).

The 2014 Lexus ES 300h delivers a refined and serene driving experience that is bolstered by its hybrid powertrain's quiet, all-electric operation at lower speeds. Although the hybrid ES is noticeably less quick than the V6-equipped ES 350, most buyers will find its acceleration fully acceptable in normal driving situations.

No one will ever deem the ES 300h sporty, but few people will expect it to be. The steering is commendably accurate for a hybrid sedan, though predictably, effort levels are light. Brake pedal feel is also impressively normal for a hybrid, and you'll be hard-pressed to detect the transitions between the hybrid system's regenerative braking (which helps recharge the battery pack) and application of the conventional brakes.

At highway speeds, the cabin remains remarkably silent and is largely devoid of wind or road noise. Bumps and ruts in the road are well absorbed by the suspension, but don't expect complete isolation from road imperfections: Even in hybrid form, the ES is tuned to deliver a balance between out-and-out comfort and handling precision.

Interiors and Special Features:

Reviewers are impressed with the 2014 Lexus ES Hybrid’s elegant interior, saying that quality materials and exceptional craftsmanship give the cabin a premium feel. The front seats are comfy and supportive and the back seat is very spacious with ample legroom. Test drivers say the controller for the available infotainment and navigation systems is cumbersome to use while driving. They are also frustrated that some entertainment functions aren’t accessible while the car is in motion.

The 2014 Lexus ES 300h comes with a moonroof, push-button start, an eight-speaker CD audio system, an auxiliary jack, a USB port, Bluetooth phone connectivity, satellite radio and a HomeLink programmable garage door opener. Optional features include an upgraded stereo system with surround sound, a power rear sunshade, a voice-activated navigation system, Siri integration for iPhone, a heated steering wheel, parking sensors, a backup camera, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and lane departure warning.

Test drivers are annoyed by some of the ES Hybrid’s features, like Lexus’ Remote Touch system, which uses a mouse-like controller for the available infotainment and navigation systems. They say it can be cumbersome to use while driving and that many of the infotainment system’s functions are disabled while the car is in motion. One critic says that the heated steering wheel doesn’t work very well and another notes that while the lane departure warning is a useful safety feature, it has an irritating beep sound.

Safety features:

The 2014 Lexus ES 300h comes standard with antilock brakes, stability and traction control, front and rear side airbags, side curtain airbags and front knee airbags. Also included is Lexus Safety Connect with automatic crash notification, stolen vehicle location and an emergency assist button.

Optional equipment includes a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, automatic high-beam headlights that turn off when they detect other vehicles, a lane-departure warning system and a blind-spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alerts. The optional adaptive cruise control includes the pre-collision system, which primes the seatbelts and brakes when it senses an impending collision.

In Edmunds brake testing, the ES 300h stopped from 60 mph in 129 feet, which is longer than average for an entry-level luxury sedan.

In government crash testing, the Lexus ES 300h received five out of five stars for overall safety, and for its protection in frontal- and side-impact crashes. The Lexus ES 350, on which the ES 300h is based, received the highest possible rating of "Good" in the moderate-overlap frontal offset, side-impact and roof strength tests from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Its seat/head restraint design was also rated Good for whiplash protection in rear impacts.
