Full Review

The 2014 BMW 650i xDrive continues on market for 2014 essentially unchanged with the exception of a new upgrade package that is available. This car is in its third generation and was last redesigned in 2012. The 650i xDrive is a sportier alternative to BMW’s traditional coupes, and comes standard with all-wheel drive. It is available in both coupe and convertible body styles. This car is perfect for the person who enjoys the coupe look, but wants a sportier car with more performance capabilities. The 650i has a distinct shape and unique styling that make it a good-looking and very powerful option.

The 650i xDrive has a very distinct shape and body that screams upgrades and luxury. This coupe takes it to the next level with its sporty yet classy appearance. It has a long aluminum hood with two bulging lines, which give it a very streamlined look. Mounted on the front is a split grille that can be accented in chrome or black. The BMW badging is housed slightly above this performance feature. The sport-inspired fenders have an air intake that develops into dual straight lines, sculptured into the body to continue the symmetry from the hood and accentuate the shapely sides. The 650i comes standard with 19-inch wheels to fill the wheel wells and adaptive xenon headlights and LED foglights to highlight the car’s front-end design. Regardless of whether you’re city cruising or highway riding, this coupe will turn heads.

The cabin of the 650i xDrive is dressed to the nines in high-quality materials, while feating impeccable design. The cabin space is reminiscent of a cockpit in an aeroplane, as it feels secure and supportive, but to some possibly claustrophobic. The “multicontour” seats come with Nappa leather upholstery and are 20-way adjustable, optimizing comfort in this vehicle, although the rear seats are tight for two adults. The interior gets luxurious details with soft-touch leather doors and dash, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Infotainment details are displayed on a large interface and control knobs are intelligently-placed for easy use. The trunk and cargo space is ample in the coupe, but shrinks a bit in the top-down convertible.

The BMW 650i xDrive has many attractive features that justify the six-figure price tag. The exterior has beautiful design and details, while the interior offers luxurious amenities. Stand-out features inside the coupe include the Bang & Olufsen Audio system, which when upgraded, blast 1,200 watts of sound through 16 speakers. This listening experience is bound to elevate the overall driving experience. Another cool technology feature is the Surround View System. This optional camera provides a 360-degree view of surrounding cars and will improve safety, parking and maneuverability in tight spaces. The convertible 650i xDrive offers a very user-friendly and convenient top-down experience.

With the press of a button the black, multi-layer soft-top roof folds into the trunk in a matter of seconds. This allows drivers to take full advantage of their purchase and use the function more frequently. Elevating the top-down driving experience is the rear-retractable window that can be lowered (along with all the other windows with one button) to reduce air noise while the top is up or use as a wind-deflector, while the top is down.

Powering the 650i xDrive is a twin-turbo 4.4-liter v8 engine that generates 445 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. The V8 is accompanied by an eight-speed automatic transmission with standard all-wheel drive and achieves 12.38 liters per 100 kilometers combined. The 650i coupe bursts from 0-97 km/h in just 4.5 seconds.

The 2014 BMW 650i xDrive is a perfect fit for the person who is willing to dish out a lot of money for an elevated coupe or convertible experience.

Interiors and Special Features:

The 2014 BMW 6 Series interior is furnished with top-shelf materials in a close-fitting, cockpit-style environment. Depending on your preference, the prominent center console might instill a sense of security or slight claustrophobia. The iDrive electronics interface has a straightforward menu structure, crisp graphics and quick processing times, which helps minimize the amount of time you spend looking away from the road. That said, new owners should sit down and familiarize themselves with iDrive before hitting the road, because it's still a complex system and you can't master everything while the car's in motion.
