How to Ask a Car Dealer to Lower the Price and Succeed

With so many additional costs, car options and confusing jargon, understanding a car price quote can seem a little tough. To help car buyers see what is included in the price of their chosen car, Unhaggle provides a free Dealer Cost Report that lists all the applicable fees, options and incentives.

Those who find the process of accessing the report a little puzzling (which it can be!) can follow these steps…

1. Pick Your Make and Model

To access the Dealer Cost Report, head over to the Unhaggle.com homepage. Pick your preferred make and model (e.g. Audi, A4):

Make and Model

After you pick both, click on the "Get My Free Report" button to go to the next page.

2. Configure Your Vehicle

On the next page, select your preferred trim level (e.g. SE AWD) from a tab located below your chosen yearmake and model:

Select Trim Level

Next, click on the "Add Options" button located to the right of your chosen yearmake and model and scroll down to view a list of available options to enhance the vehicle. These added options will be located in a table divided into three columns: SelectionDescription and MSRP.

The Selection column allows you to check off your selected option; the Description explains what that option actually is; and the MSRP showcases its retail price:

If you are not sure how to select your options or how to read this table, here are some tips:

a. Special Symbols

The table also features symbols that label which options are SelectedExcludedRequired or Included. The legend for these symbols is located in a small section above the table:

Selected, Excluded, Required, Included

Selected

Selected

This symbol labels a feature or package you have checked off yourself by clicking on a small blank box in the Selection column.

Excluded

Excluded

This symbol labels a feature or package that cannot be combined with one of the selected options in the table.

Required or Included

Required or Included

Certain features or packages must be combined with a specific feature or package. Those tend to be labelled either as “required” or “included.” The difference between the two is pricing. “Included” options are free, while “required” ones are not.

b. Common Options

The table is broken up into sections to designate various types of options. The options tend to vary, but some of the most common ones include: Primary PaintSeat TypeSeat TrimRequired OptionAdditional EquipmentTransmission and Wheels. The base selection in each section will be checked off by default.

3. Fill Out a Short Form
