Quick Look

The 2016 Toyota Camry is a great option to go for when thinking about fuel efficient vehicles. It saves a lot on gas, has a decent look to it, and surprisingly mediocre performance.

Full Review

The 2016 Toyota Camry has a completely new design done to it with new colours available for both the interior and exterior. The changes made to this year’s model really bring out certain aspect of the sedan a lot more than others. They also assist in the overall performance, the fuel efficiency, and the looks both inside and out. It seems that the Camry is not suited for all drivers, but for those who it is suited for, will really appreciate the attention to detail Toyota has done.

The exterior of the sedan looks a lot different from last year’s design. The grille levels perfectly with the length of the headlights and is accompanied by a silver bar in the middle. On that silver bar, the Toyota logo is placed right in the centre, resulting is a perfectly symmetrical design. The headlights have been cut down to be thinner, giving it a sleeker look and in addition are powered by LED lighting. The indents on the hood work perfect with the Toyota logo as they are positioned in a way that draws more attention to the logo. The fog lights have a new design as they are now vertical lines underneath the headlights and beside the bottom grille.

The interior is made perfectly as it complements the exterior designs. The centre console is very user-friendly as everything is placed in a visible and clear spot so drivers don’t struggle when trying to figure out how to access certain functions or features. The console is accompanied by an LCD screen as well, which controls the audio, climate control, Bluetooth, and navigation system. The material used for the dashboard and seats isn’t the nicest but is definitely a great value-added to the vehicle as it is very comfortable and doesn’t look bad. In addition, the space Toyota has provided for both drivers and passengers is great, as there is more than enough legroom and headroom for them.

Under the hood, Toyota offers a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine which is able to produce 178 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. The engine is powered by a 6-speed automatic transmission and has the power to reach 100 kilometres/hour in about 8 seconds. It also has a top speed of about 200 km/h. In terms of fuel efficiency, the Camry only requires about 9.4 litres for every 100 kilometres driven in the city, and 6.7 litres on the highway.

The 2016 Toyota Camry is an ideal vehicle to get if drivers are willing to take a hit on the power for lower monthly payments on refilling gas. In addition to the costs saved, the Camry is a pretty decent-looking car which gives drivers even more of a reason to go out and try it out!

Power and Performance:

Like most special-edition vehicles, the drivetrain for the Camry Special Edition remains unaltered from the SE model, with only one powerplant and gearbox option on the table: the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with the six-speed automatic transmission. The engine delivers 178 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. With it, 0-to-60 time is estimated at 8 seconds, with a top speed of 125 mph.

It would be nice to see the inclusion of Toyota’s 268-horspower V-6, which comes as an option on the XLE and XSE trim levels. However, the standard inline-four is more than up to the task at hand, with power delivery that’s tractable and quiet. The EPA rates fuel mileage for the four-cylinder at 25-mpg city and 35 mpg highway. Anyone looking for greater fuel efficiency should investigate the Camry Hybrid, which is capable of delivering up to 39 mpg in the city and 43 mpg on the highway.

Interiors and Special Features:

Inside, Toyota offers cloth, a SofTex suede-like material, and leather and sport leather seat materials. Most models get a 6.1-inch touchscreen front and center, while V-6 models are upgraded to a 7.0-inch screen, and the center stack has large knobs and buttons. The dash is also accented by stitching to add both texture and eye appeal.

Safety features:

All Camry models include ten airbags, with front passenger knee bags and rear side airbags for outboard occupants, as well as electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, and a Smart Stop Technology brake-override system.

Safety options include a Blind-Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, adaptive cruise control, a Pre-Collision System, and Lane Departure Alert with Auto High Beam.
