Quick Look

The 2016 Subaru Impreza is relatively good-looking, but its biggest assets can be found under the hood and within the cabin if you’re looking for reliability and fuel economy. This year’s upgrade receives slight modifications inside and out with the most notable changes in improved comfort and better storage capability. As such, the technology suite is quite advanced and features many modern features, such as Subaru STARLINK smartphone integration which allows you to access mobile applications and services from the touchscreen display. It’s likewise outfitted with the only standard all-wheel drive engine in the segment, with a 2.0-litre horizontally opposed flat-four cylinder that delivers 148 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque, and is paired with an impressively fuel-efficient Continuously Variable Transmission.

Full Review

The 2016 Subaru Impreza combines practicality and fuel-efficiency, overall making a great vehicle choice for the dynamic and modern driver. Detailed refinement is evidenced throughout the exterior and interior profiles for ultimate appeal and comfort, and can also be seen in the updated control interface which features a multitude of technical gadgets that work to assist and engage the driver. The engine is likewise energetic and quick, complemented by great safety features in this top-rated car. The Impreza definitely aims to please with a functionality and safety, as well as fuel economy.

The new Subaru Impreza features a relatively attractive outer profile that looks small but tough, with most modifications made to the vehicle’s front end. The compact car keeps its trapezoidal grille and adds “hawk-eye headlights” for an overall aggressive demeanour, but the fascia also boasts a restyled bumper. From the side, this vehicle noticeably features exaggerated wheel arches and a new side view mirror design that is supposed to improve aerodynamics, but ultimately adds to the car’s overall appeal as well.

Better building materials and overall smoother refinement further combine to enhance the car’s interior cabin with increased comfort, style and functionality in mind. The interior is meticulously lined with soft touch materials that now cover the majority of the dashboard and center console. As such, controls are simple and intuitive with large round ventilation knobs that make them easier to use than touchscreen control. There are also lots of bins, cubbies, trays and cup holders for increased storage and convenience. Altogether, this compact car can seat five but comfortably accommodates four people with great legroom and elbowroom in the back. Evidenced throughout the cabin are not only a great attention to detail, but also a huge appreciation for practicality and straight forward capability.

Adorning the centre stack is a 6.2-inch touchscreen display that bundles infotainment, navigation, Bluetooth and iPod connectivity. But the real highlight of this technology suite can be found in the Subaru STARLINK smartphone integration program that allows users to connect mobile devices and access select applications and services throughout the touchscreen. The system as a whole uses swipe and scroll functionality and is altogether incredibly easy to use and helpful when driving. Additional features include a standard rear view camera and a 3-month trial subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio.

This year’s Subaru Impreza is still the only model in its segment to offer standard all-wheel drive. Besides this impressive feat, there’s a 2.0-litre horizontally opposed flat-four cylinder engine that delivers 148 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. The unit can be paired with five-speed manual transmission, which offers 11.3 litres per 100 kilometres city and 8.3 litres per 100 kilometres highway. The more fuel-efficient engine, however, runs with Continuously Variable Transmission and offers 10.1 litres per 100 kilometres city and 7.6 litres per 100 kilometres highway. Altogether, this drivetrain boasts responsive handling and smooth steering for an overall enjoyable ride.

The Subaru Impreza is amidst the top of its class in safety ratings, featuring numerous provisions that are designed to keep you engaged, assisted and protected. A rear view camera is standard on the base model, but higher trims can come with the EyeSight Driver Assist Suite which integrates front camera and sensors to add adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and pre-collision warning.

As it stands, the 2016 Subaru Impreza features an energetic engine to complement its attractive outward profile and practical interior cabin. This vehicle definitely stands out as a reliable car for all types of drivers.

Power and Performance:

Since 2016 will most likely be the last year Impreza features as a fourth generation vehicle, changes in any department, and especially in powertrain one are highly unlikely. That’s why base Impreza will keep its 2.0L 4-cylinder engine which develops 148 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque. All available models are tied to standard 5-speed manual or optional CVT transmission, but drivetrain is yet again limited to all-wheel drive which is Subaru’s trademark.
