Quick Look

Mazda’s beautiful, fuel-efficient 2016 CX-5 comes across as a very sporty crossover. With its newly designed grille looking as if it were smiling at everyone’s amazed reaction, the CX-5 has incredible exterior designs. Aside from the look, Mazda has done a fine job with the 2016 CX-5’s engine, which is able to push out 184 horsepower.

Full Review

The 2016 Mazda CX-5 looks better than ever with its athletic build, sleek new grille design and powerful engine! This crossover has everything you need in a vehicle: a powerful yet fuel efficient engine, stylish new look and spacious interior. A cool bonus with this crossover is that it comes with a full-size spare tire that sits under the cargo floor, instead of the bottom of the vehicle. The 2016 Mazda CX-5 is evidently a threat to its competitors with all the improvements Mazda has included in it.

Mazda has made improvements to the interior with a larger touch-screen display, nine-speaker Bose audio system and new driver’s assistance features in the updated Technology Package such as Smart City Brake Support, Smart Brake Support, Mazda Radar Cruise Control, Forward Obstruction Warning, High Beam Control and Lane Departure Warning System. Also, Mazda has upgraded the Mazda Connect infotainment system, the next-generation car connectivity system, with features like SMS text message reading, a multifunctional controller knob and much more. The CX-5 is very spacious with legroom measurements of about 39 inches for both front and rear seats and headroom measurements of 39 inches. This space would be greatly appreciated by the parents who need their space on long road trips with kids.

In addition to the Mazda CX-5’s interior, the automaker has done a stellar job with the exterior look. This sporty-looking crossover has been drawing a lot of attention with its sharp new look. The stylish look may be the result of the newly-designed grille, new LED lights at the front and rear of the vehicle, redesigned fog lamp housings and 19-inch alloy wheels with a dark finish. Although some may think Mazda hasn’t made major changes to the exterior design of the vehicle, the changes that they have made have clearly made a difference on the final product. Even when it comes to the CX-5’s colours, Mazda has done a fine job of picking and choosing the ones that bring the best out of this crossover. It is undeniable that Mazda has done a great job with the overall design of their new 2016 Mazda CX-5.

Mazda has brought back Skyactiv Technology under the hood to cater to those who are concerned for the environment or their wallets. With the 2016 CX-5’s 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine, drivers will have the best of both worlds – an amazing driving experience at 184 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque and fuel efficiency. The vehicle boasts a combined fuel economy of 11 litres per 100 kilometres, which is great on the tank. In addition to the engine, this vehicle has a firm suspension, but with harsher pavements, it can occasionally be a bit of a rough ride. However, this crossover has a very smooth-shifting six-speed transmission. The 2016 Mazda CX-5 definitely would stand out in a crowd among rivals like the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V and Nissan Rogue.

The 2016 Mazda CX-5 is a great car for almost anyone with its cool new features. It is understandable that some adjustments may seem minor, but Mazda has done a great job of putting a strong emphasis on these alterations to attract even more buyers to this awesome crossover!

Power and Performance:

The CX-5 handles so well and hits all the right marks otherwise in driving enjoyment, that its four-cylinder engines are really what hold it back from shoppers enticed by turbocharged Escapes and Foresters. Road manners are well attended to in most Mazdas, and the CX-5 fares better in handling than most crossovers. Steering and ride control are very good; nonetheless, handling has been tweaked with revised dampers and bushings, better noise damping, and driver-selectable driving modes for the automatic-equipped versions. In the 2016 Mazda CX-5, in addition to the 155-hp 2.0-liter four, now offered solely with a six-speed manual gearbox and front-wheel drive on Sport models, auto-equipped Sport models as well as Touring and Grand Touring models include a 184-hp, 2.5-liter four. The larger engine is only offered with the automatic, but in either case the entire powertrain and vehicle are tuned for maximum efficiency.

Interiors and Special Features:

Inside, the CX-5 gains Mazda’s latest infotainment and connectivity system—the ominously named Human-Machine Interface—which brings with it a center-console-mounted control knob like those in German luxury cars. We have used Mazda’s system many times in the 3 and the 6, and it’s as simple to use as you like and quick to respond to inputs, too.

Mazda has added more interior storage, as well, partially through the deletion of a conventional emergency-brake handle in favour of an electric, button-actuated brake. Interior trim materials have been upgraded, and you’ll be able to order one of three finishes for the instrument panel, including an aluminum-look piece and piano black. Light-coloured Parchment leather joins the black leather and the tan and black cloth upholstery options.

Further upgrades include some newly available driver-assistance safety systems; the 2016 CX-5 can be outfitted with blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, collision-mitigating braking, and speed-adjusting radar cruise control.

Safety features:

Mazda calls its collection of safety technologies i-ActiveSense. As a part of this new suite of safety features, Mazda adds rear cross-traffic detection to the blind-spot monitoring system, and introduces a dynamic radar cruise control system, lane-departure warning system, and automatic high-beam headlights to the 2016 CX-5. Smart Brake Support technology evolves from a low-speed system to one that works at higher speeds.
