Quick Look

Jeep is bringing back the 2016 Cherokee with a few alterations, however it seems as though they haven’t fixed up complaints from the previous model, so to some drivers this new update may seem pointless.

Full Review

The new 2016 Jeep Cherokee looks like it may be an upgrade for some current Cherokee drivers, however there will definitely be those who will not be satisfied as they did not update certain traits on the SUV some drivers were expecting. There are changes that will intrigue many as well, which we will get to a bit later, so don’t be discouraged and lose all faith in Jeep yet!

Taking a look at the exterior look we can see Jeep has not responded to the changes many drivers demanded for in the look of the car. They have kept majority of the look the same which has not pleased many drivers yet, but there are still parts of the SUV that look great and people will appreciate. First off, there are the headlights with a thin and long design done to them. They are powered by LED lighting, but since they are so thin and off to the side, they almost seem like they are hiding from the front view of the SUV. Next, there is the grille design which hasn’t brought a positive response to many which may be because it gives the SUV a scarier look than it should. They almost seem like they are teeth growling out, which may take away from any friendly designs they have done. Moving forward, there are the fog lights which don’t have any special designs done to them, but since they are very basic, it doesn’t seem to match the overly designed headlights right above it. Moving to the rear view of the SUV, there isn’t anything special done to it other than a horizontal indent dividing the top half of it from the bottom half.

The interior designs on the 2016 Jeep Cherokee are a bit better than what they have outside. There is nothing intimidating about the centre console, it all seems simple to use. However this may be because of the fact that there aren’t many functions on it to make it seem complicated. The two-toned colour design they have done to the seats seem to fit the overall theme of the interior look, since more of the trims on the dashboard, centre console, and steering wheel is silver. In terms of space inside, they have done a great job giving both the driver and the passengers ample space for their legs and head. This is definitely a key element in SUVs nowadays, as some brands use that extra space to throw in a useless function or feature in it.

Under the hood we can see Jeep offers 2 engines with this model. The first being a 2.8-litre 4-cylinder engine which will be able to push 184 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque. The second engine being a more powerful 3.6-litre V6 engine which will be able to push about 271 horsepower and and 240 pound-feet of torque. Both of these engines will be pwered by an 8-speed auto transmission gearbox which will push the vehicle through its front wheels. Even though the numbers may not be shocking, for its segment, they are one of the most powerful ones. The 2016 Jeep Cherokee will be able to go 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in 10 seconds.

Even though there are some things Jeep missed out on updating this year, this SUV still has features that are better than competitors. Jeep may have even decided to go with no change to the look because they are perhaps working on a new design for the 2017 model, so don’t be too quick to judge based on what they are releasing this year!

Power and Performance:

The 2016 Jeep Cherokee lineup is a crossover, to the definition—a vehicle with a tall seating point, built on underpinnings that were derived from those of passenger cars or intended to be shared with cars.

Given that, it's shocking how much ruggedness Jeep has managed to package into this one—or, depending on how you configure it, what a docile, responsive family hauler it can be. It takes on both sides with aplomb—although from a performance standpoint the available ruggedness and off-road ability is where it stands out most.

Interiors and Special Features:

The 2016 Jeep Cherokee might produce polarizing first impressions, but it can end up a lot more appealing once you soak in the design, inside and out.

The design isn't as cohesive, from the outside, as it should be. Part That might sound like a backhanded compliment, but there's something true to it -- certainly in the way that Jeep fans will end up seeing the Cherokee. To be blunt, even a year in, the design still stands as a little unexpected and awe-inducing -- and not entirely in a good way. The sharp, futuristic (and arguably cluttered) front-end design is a direct challenge to square-jawed, Jeep tradition. But even if you can't quite reconcile with the front-end appearance, there's plenty else aesthetically appealing in the Cherokee to redeem it.

Safety features:

The 2016 Jeep Cherokee remains a solid choice for families, as it has not only some good occupant safety ratings but more active-safety features than is typical in this affordable class of crossovers.

All 2016 Cherokee models come with ten airbags, including rear-seat side airbags and driver and front passenger knee airbags. And the available Forward Collision Warning Plus now includes low-speed crash-mitigation support, while the Latitude and Trailhawk models now include a ParkView backup camera plus automatic headlamps. Additionally, on Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk models, there's a new package that combines Blind-spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Path Detection, ParkSense rear park assist, and signal mirrors with courtesy lamps.
