Quick Look

The 2016 Jaguar XJ is an absolutely beautiful luxury sedan as it has such a classic and sleek look to it. Jaguar has really outdone themselves with this one.

Full Review

The new 2016 Jaguar XJ is a very unique looking car since it has its own old fashion look to it. However, traits like this help it become even more of a threat than it already is to competitors like the BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A8, and Cadillac CTS. With a combination of the luxury sedan’s exterior looks, interior looks, and powerful engine, there is no reason for Jaguar to disappoint in any aspect.

Taking a look at the exterior look, we can see Jaguar pays a lot of attention to detail on the 2016 Jaguar XJ. If they hadn’t decided to put effort into the smallest things about the car, they wouldn’t be considered as luxurious. The front view of the car is absolutely beautiful. Starting off with the hood, we can see such simple yet detailed designs done to it. The grille, has a very large opening and a relatively small feature to it, the logo. Jaguar uses another designed logo for some of its models, this one being one of them. It is a simple circular badge with a textured image on it. The headlights are LED powered and has more of a modern look to it since it is thinner and more sleek, to add on to the simple designs around the hood. The rear view is just as elegant as the front. However one difference in the looks between the front and back is here they actually use their Jaguar logo. So we know they haven’t completely abandoned it for this model. Also, the taillights look a lot different as they are long and vertical. They stretch out the about half of the cargo door. This design helps Jaguar to differentiate the exterior design with this model to its other sedans.

The interior looks are just as luxurious and simple as the exterior designs. Starting off with the steering wheel, it complements the old fashion theme they seem to be going for as it is a very simple circle with a smaller circle as the air bag holder inside. The centre console is very simple to use, there is nothing about it that may be too difficult for some drivers, which is starting to be a concern with the exponential growth in technology in luxury cars. The touch-screen associated with the centre console is a smaller screen which may be difficult for drivers who already have difficulty seeing the regular sized screens while driving. In addition, the 2016 Jaguar XJ has more than enough space inside for both drivers and passengers.

Under the hood, Jaguar offers a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 engine which is able to produce 340 horsepower. With this engine, the XJ is able to reach 100 kilometres/hour in about 5.7 seconds. The next engine offered is a supercharged V8 engine which has the fuel efficiency to drive 100 kilometres on the highway with about 8.7 litres. Both engines run on an all-wheel drive system.

Jaguar has done a great job with this year’s new model, the 2016 Jaguar XJ. They are able to cater to many people, as long as drivers are able to afford it, as it is a bit pricey. However, drivers who do go for this luxury sedan are definitely intrigued for a reason, and clearly Jaguar has created many reasons now.

Power and Performance:

The Jaguar XJ's engines and transmission are well-executed, but the car's lighter curb weight plays the biggest role in its road manners. It just feels lighter and more nimble than some of its titanic rivals. Using riveted-and-bonded aluminum body panels as well as an all-aluminum structure makes the XJ amazingly light for a car its size. Altogether, the XJ hits the scales at about 4,200 pounds in base form — several hundred pounds less than other brands' flagship sedans.

The base-level Jaguar XJ comes with a 340-horsepower supercharged 3.0-liter V-6. With 0-60 mph times of 5.7 seconds, it's nearly as fast as the much more expensive V-8 XJ--within a second in that benchmark acceleration run--while it returns up to 27 miles per gallon on the EPA highway cycle. It can be trimmed out with all-wheel drive, and can be fitted to either the long- or the standard-wheelbase XJ body.

Interiors and Special Features:

Inside, in obvious contrast to the exterior's uncluttered design, the XJ is slathered in chrome for a glitzy, over-the-top feel. While welcome, the expansive glass sunroof showers the cabin in sunlight, accentuating even more the bright, bright, brightwork. Piano-black trim throughout the instrument panel seems at odds with the doors' wide bands of wood and opulent leather headliner. Though the black trimwork is high in quality, it's as common on Kias as it is on Jaguars.

Safety features:

Likely due to the XJ's high cost and limited production, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has crash-tested the newest model. With its aerospace-inspired construction using glue and rivets, we feel confident giving the 2016 XJ a slightly higher safety mark.

All 2016 Jaguar XJs have the mandatory number of airbags and stability control as well as a good many of the most modern in-car safety features.
