Quick Look

The 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe definitely appeals to families and dynamic drivers looking for the best in the crossover SUV range. While it plays against tough competition that includes the Honda CRV and Chevrolet Equinox, the Santa Fe keeps its exterior profile that people find so attractive and only changes the interior cabin minimally, adding bits and bobs here and there for increased comfort and versatility. Such features include a redesigned center console and a hands-free Smart Liftgate for automatic access to the trunk when approaching from the rear. The SUV’s base model could be more fuel efficient, sporting a standard 2.4-litre four-cylinder Gasoline Direction Injection engine, which delivers 190 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. Nonetheless, this vehicle is definitely engineered for everyday household driving.

Full Review

The 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe presents a handsome exterior and a spacious interior cabin for an overall stylish vehicle that is great for household driving. The 2016 upgrade brings about minimal changes in terms of interior refinements and engine power, however they have definitely succeeded in retaining their initial exterior design that has made the vehicle so popular. Lined with a comfortable feel on the inside and several driving assistants, the only thing missing is a rear entertainment system to make this vehicle truly family-friendly. Nonetheless, it really is an attractive crossover SUV with great power and numerous interior comforts.

The 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe retains its bold and stylish persona by carrying over relatively unchanged from last years model. The outer surface is sleek and smooth with sharp lines and refined edges for a design that is sharply styled and impressively detailed. Its overall body structure is further polished for aerodynamic efficiency and optimal cruising. Minimal upgrades include the addition of standard daytime running lights, a bolder grille with chrome surround and horizontal slats, redesigned bumpers and updated fog lights. Buyers won’t be too displeased with the lack of updates to this year’s model, however, since the most appealing aspect of the Santa Fe is it’s aesthetic profile. Both attractive and sophisticated, this crossover is sure to turn heads.

On the inside, you’ll find a spacious cabin lined with high-quality materials and a variety of comforts to make your driving experience as relaxed as possible. In terms of upholstery, the interior cabin of the 2016 Santa Fe can be covered in stain-resistant fabric or leather depending on trim, and will feature an abundance of space for maximum comfort. New updates to the inside include a re-organized center console with repositioned buttons and user-friendly controls that are easy to reach, as well as a folding rear bench seat for increased cargo space and versatility.

The new Hyundai is packed with tons of features designed to improve your family driving experience, most notably the Hands Free Smart Liftgate, which automatically opens the hatch upon rear approach, as long as the key is in your pocket. Other available features include but are not limited to the eight-inch touchscreen navigation system, dual-zone temperature control, panoramic sunroof and the heated steering wheel with mounted audio and cruise controls, Bluetooth and tilt/telescopic functionality.

In terms of performance, the new Santa Fe exhibits both power and fuel efficiency with two engines paired with standard six-speed automatic transmission and SHIFTRONIC manual shift mode. These engines also feature Hyundai’s Active ECO system for smarter accelerations to help further improve fuel-efficiency. The standard unit is comprised of a 2.4-litre four-cylinder Gasoline Direction Injection engine, which delivers 190 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. This engine boasts average fuel economy with 14.1 litres per 100 kilometres city and 10.5 litres per 100 kilometres highway on four-wheel drive. Drivers also have the option of a 2.0-litre turbocharged GDI engine that produces an even more impressive 265 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, and is rated at 14.9 litres per 100 kilometres city and 10.5 litres per 100 kilometres highway on four-wheel drive. Safety features include stability and traction control, while available features include Blind Spot Detection System, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Anti-Lock Braking System. The engine lineup for the 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe definitely makes towing, passing and hauling easier and overall does the job, however fuel economy could be improved.

All in all, the 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe is incredibly attractive and boasts great space and comfort throughout its interior cabin, perfect for families seeking a relaxed and enjoyable driving experience. For a vehicle that is, for the most part, unchanged from last years model, the new Santa Fe aims to please.

Power and Performance:

For 2016 the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport offers a choice of two engines. Standard on the base Sport is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder with 190 horsepower; if that's not enough, the 265-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged engine in the Sport 2.0T should satisfy you. Both engines benefit from modern direct fuel injection and continuously variable valve timing for the optimum in efficiency and power. The only transmission choice is a 6-speed automatic with a Shiftronic manual shift gate, for those who wish to shift for themselves, and is available in either front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), delivering responsive and impressive performance and fuel economy.
