Full Review

The 2016 Hyundai Genesis Coupe is a great car, because of the great looks, amazing power, and awesome price paid for the value. Even though sedan and coupes only differ in the door designs or engine, with the Hyundai Genesis, the two differ a lot more. They are not only two completely different looking cars on outside but also on the inside and under the hood. The coupe model is definitely made for a different group of people as it has a lot more power, and has a sportier look to it.

The exterior looks absolutely stellar, even though not much has changed, the overall look of the exterior is very handsome. Starting off with the grille, it has a very similar shape to its predecessor. A hexagonal shape with a black border separating the top and bottom. The top is accompanied by the Hyundai logo, which is much different from the sedan version of this model as it has a different logo for the car. The headlights are the same as well, with a thin and curvy shape. The indents all over the front view of the car complement all aspects of it perfectly as it looks like all the pieces of the puzzle fit perfectly. The rear view is an addition to the sporty theme the Genesis Coupe portrays. With thin taillights and different colours within it to give it a unique look, and the Hyundai logo, the rear view doesn’t have that much to brag about.

The interior is made beautifully, especially since it is a great transition for drivers from the exterior. The centre console is very organized and neat, allowing drivers to identify functions on it easily. Accompanying the centre console is the infotainment system and display screen. The infotainment system has similar specs to the 2015 model, however the display screen is a bit larger. With the display screen, drivers are able to have a visual representation of the audio, Bluetooth, navigation system, and climate control. The material used for the dash board and seats are pretty high quality, as it should be since this is a sports car and it is essential for drivers to be beyond comfy while driving. Details like the steering wheel being crafted in such a way that bring even more comfort to drivers allows this model to be able to top its competitors in aspects like comfort.

Under the hood, Hyundai offers a couple of engines for its drivers. The first being a 2.0 turbocharged engine, which is the same as the one offered in the 2015 model. The second being a 3.8-litre turbocharged engine. Finally the third being a 3.3-litre twin turbo engine. All these engines run through a rear-wheel drive system. In terms of the power, the third engine is able to produce 480 horsepower and 130 pound of torque.

The 2016 Hyundai Genesis Coupe is definitely not a car for all drivers, however the demographic it is catered towards can appreciate the effort put into it. With the smallest details all around the car drawing attention to critics, the coupe has the chance to top its competitors both in sales and rankings.

Power and Performance:

While the addition of a V-8 engine is the most exciting news, the V-6 will also be replaced with a turbocharged, 3.3-liter variant, good for around 350 horsepower. Both should be lightning-quick.

While the current car is by no means sub-par, the new Genesis coupe should finally be a legitimate competitor to more expensive offerings. Throwing in a 420-plus-horsepower V-8 is bound to get anyones’ attention, and will squarely face the Camaro and Mustang V-8s with similar output and likely similar performance.

Interiors and Special Features:

The Hyundai Genesis aims to stand out (and stand apart) at Hyundai dealerships, yet fit right in with luxury benchmarks that cost far more. And you can see that delicate dichotomy of missions in the way the Genesis looks. It's not derivative of anything in particular, but you don’t need to be a car expert to see that Hyundai looked to Lexus, Infiniti, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi, among others, for inspiration, and then mashed it up with some of its own language.

Also worth noting: the lack of a Hyundai badge at the front of the car. Hyundai only applies a Genesis badge, which solicits a little more intrigue. On close inspection, the Genesis badge looks even more like a Bentley emblem this time.

Safety features:

Large luxury sedans have become rolling showcases for some of the latest accident-avoidance technology; and the Hyundai Genesis is no exception. It's quite the safety flagship for the Hyundai lineup.

From the federal government's NCAP testing, the all-new Genesis Sedan earns the top five-star rating for frontal, side crash, and rollover categories—and in nearly all subcategories, including the side pole test, which simulates a 20-mph sideways collision with a utility pole or tree. The only exception where the Genesis earned four stars, rather than five, in the government's subcategories was for driver front-seat protection, in the 38.5-mph side barrier test.
