The 2016 Ford Explorer looks incredible with changes done to the exterior, interior and under the hood! The Ford Explorer line is up against some tough competition, like the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango, GMC Acadia and Nissan Pathfinder, but Ford has done a great job making sure the 2016 Ford Explorer doesn’t fall behind.
Ford has made an abundance of changes to their new 2016 Explorer, keeping the vehicle’s fuel efficiency, while giving it more of a luxurious finish and adding cool new features that will assist in everyday driving. Believe it or not, Ford has come up with such unique features that even the most luxurious and high-tech companies haven’t implemented yet, which really says a lot about where Ford is heading.
The 2016 Ford Explorer will be one of the cars that will be turning heads. Its beautiful exterior designs have made the car so much more attractive, that it shouldn’t be a shock to see some people purchasing it just for the looks. Ford has finally included LED low beams as a standard and optional signature eyebrow lighting for its headlights. These new LED lights perfectly complement the newly-designed grille. In addition to that, there is a functional inlet on the front fog lights that direct air around the front wheel wells. On top of all of this, Ford has added a new, subtle spoiler, which works great with the new look. It is evident that Ford has paid a lot of attention to the details of this new model.
Moving to interior designs and features, Ford has done a great job in making a shift to a more luxurious midsize crossover. The 2016 Ford Explorer includes quilted leather on the seats, satin-finished ash wood and brushed aluminum on the dashboard and doors. This is a huge jump for Ford since they used to rely on plastic that mimics wood instead of the real thing. On top of the luxurious finishes, Ford has included a new 500-watt Sony audio system, which features “Live Acoustic and Clear Phase technology” that eliminates sound dispersion in the vehicle, so that music can be heard with more fidelity. Also, the new Ford Explorer includes interior air filtration that makes any unwanted or unhealthy scents vanish. Moreover, the coolest new feature this new model has is something even the larger premium companies haven’t implemented yet! It is a lens washer for the front and rearview cameras, so you can say good-bye to thumb smudges and dirt on you front or rear cameras.
Under the hood in the new 2016 Ford Explorer, there is an EcoBoost engine similar to the one used in the 2015 model, which means that Ford is making sure it maintains its fuel efficiency. The 3.5-litre V6 is a little bit weaker in terms of horsepower at 290, while its torque is at 255 pound-feet. The engine is connected to front-wheel drive and a six-speed shiftable automatic transmission.
In addition to the engine, the drive on this vehicle is great. With the fuel tank at a capacity of approximately 70 litres, the new Ford Explorer’s fuel efficiency is at 15 litres per 100 kilometres in the city and 10 litres per 100 kilometers on the highway. Moreover, Ford is launching the vehicle with the new and improved Active Park Assistance that can simultaneously park drivers in or out of a perpendicular parking spot, and of course, it offers parallel park for the driver as well. They even brought back their hands-free foot-sensing liftgate opener, which can be very convenient when loading up the very spacious storage when the back seats are down.
Conclusively, there’s no doubt the new 2016 Ford Explorer will now be considered as a threat to its competitors, with the new luxurious look the automaker is going for. This new model is the type of vehicle that a driver would fall in love with even more once they check it out for themselves.

Power and Performance: | The 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine has been replaced for 2016—by the new 2.3-liter EcoBoost, making “at least 270 horsepower and at least 300 pound-feet of torque. It’s available on base, XLT, and Limited models for just $995 extra and will allow pairing with four-wheel drive for the first time. Ford says that the Explorer will retain its class-leading fuel economy numbers, which range up to 28 mpg on the highway with the current 2.0-liter model. Ford has reduced aerodynamic drag by five percent, and a smoother new roof-rack design helps along with those design changes. Read more at The Car Connection. |
Interiors and Special Features: | While there’s no radical redesign that applies to the interior, there are some noteworthy changes. Real buttons have replaced touch-sensitive ones in many cases, and armrests have been raised and made softer. Ford has redone the door seals and introduced new engine subframe mounts that are tuned to reduce vibration, and the 2.3-liter EcoBoost models get a specially tuned exhaust system. All but the base model get acoustic glass for the windshield and front doors. The packaging goodness and spaciousness of the Explorer has been carried over, thankfully. For first- and second-row seating comfort, it’s one of the best vehicles in its class, with excellent ingress and egress, while the third-row positions are a good compromise if you occasionally carry passengers. Overall, the current generation of the Explorer prioritizes passenger space over all-out cargo convenience, and it impresses as a cabin that’s been designed, every step of the way, with family use in mind. Power-folding seats are available, as is a hands-free tailgate that activates with a kick of the foot. Read more at The Car Connection. |
Safety features: | The current Explorer isn’t just one of the safest vehicles Ford builds, but also one of the safest models on the market, with innovations such as inflatable rear seatbelts as well as an array of active-safety features aimed to help keep you out of trouble. Examples include adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support, a lane-keeping system, the Blind Spot Information System, and cross-traffic alert. One other new feature is a 180-degree camera system, with its own washer system, for the front of the vehicle. It’s the first vehicle on the market to offer such a feature.
