Quick Look

The 2016 Audi S5, though minimally improved from last years update, now excellently sports a sleek outer profile to complement a meticulously detailed interior cabin and great engine lineup. Its biggest highlight is Audi’s industry-leading Multi-Media Interface (MMI) infotainment and navigation system, hosted on a seven-inch display on the enter console. The system boasts versatility and capability, combining a multitude of functions such as navigation and driver assistance, Wi-Fi connectivity and Google Earth 3D satellite imagery for a fully loaded driving experience. The S5 is also equipped with an energetic engine lineup with an available 3.0-litre V6 engine that produces 333 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. Overall, the 2016 Audi RS5 is a stellar vehicle that excels in aesthetic design and engine performance.

Full Review

The 2016 Audi S5 provides a terrific, all-around driving experience for the dynamic driver looking for an immaculate luxury vehicle. The S5 spares no expense in terms of outer refinement, interior trimming and engine performance. Though up against luxury sport heavyweights like the BMW 435i and Mercedes-Benz C350 Coupe, this vehicle holds its own with a sleek outer body and meticulously detailed interior cabin. With a variety of technical features for increased driver assistance and engagement, the S5 is a worthy competitor with a ton of advantages over its rivals.

By this point, Audi is known to have mastered the art of designing conservatively attractive cars. Its finely tailored sheet metal is notably accented with flowing curves, sharp creases and fresh detailing. The new S5, however, is improved with sleekly bolstered lines which work to tone down the oversized, bolder grille – overall creating a menacingly intimidating outward profile. The restyled grille is flanked by LED headlight accents that are brought closer to the ground with the vehicle’s lowered body structure. Though cruising over speed bumps and uneven roads may be a hassle, this vehicle is undoubtedly attractive and compensates with a beautiful exterior profile.

On the inside, the new S5 blends striking design with easy day-to-day usability for an outstanding driving environment. The front cabin is lined with comfortable Nappa leather seats that are both supportive and easy to get in and out of, while gauges and center stacks are increasingly driver-oriented. The entire cabin sports an athleticism and high functionality. Dash inlays like carbon fibre, brushed aluminum, stainless steel and grey birch are also available.

For technology enthusiasts, Audi’s industry-leading Multi-Media Interface (MMI) infotainment and navigation system likewise outfits the center console with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, SiriusXM satellite radio, parking assist and Audi Drive Select, among a variety of other technical features designed to make your drive easier. Audi Connect also combines Google Earth connectivity for improved navigation. Additional features include three-zone automatic climate control, tilt/telescopic steering wheel and a panoramic sunroof.

The Audi S5 is available across two powertrains, each with their own benefits. The optional 3.0-litre V6 seems to be the highlight of this lineup, producing 333 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque while offering a fuel economy of 16.6 litres per kilometres city and 10.9 litres per 100 kilometres highway. Though not very fuel-efficient, this engine provides a snappy response and smooth drivetrain. Alternatively, a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-4 completes the base model on the S5 with an output of 220 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This unit is rated at 12.8 litres per 100 kilometres city and 8.8 litres per 100 kilometres highway. For a standard engine, this performance is quite substantial and equips the vehicle with some serious power as well. Both engines are paired with Audi’s standard Quattro all-wheel drive.

As it stands, the 2016 Audi aims to please those looking for the best in luxury sport coupes, exhibiting a smoothly refined exterior profile and carefully detailed interior trim. This vehicle is ideal for the modern driving looking for an extravagantly upscale experience.

Power and Performance:

Power continues to come from a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 that produces 333 horsepower and 325 lb-ft. Buyers have the choice of a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, both of which send power to all four wheels via Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system. The 0-to-60 mph sprint comes in a claimed 4.9 seconds, and fuel economy is rated at 17/26 for the manual and 18/28 for the automatic.

Interiors and Special Features:

Rather than compromise function for form – or vice versa – Audi manages to blend striking design with easy day-to-day usability. The leather driver and passenger seats offer excellent support, but are still easy to get in and out of. The driver-focused gauges and center stack are sporty and functional. The S5 ups luxury and sport, with Nappa leather and a selection of dash inlays that includes carbon fiber, brushed aluminum, stainless steel or gray birch. While Audi's MMI infotainment system and other controls are easy to use, what really sets this interior apart are design and attention to detail.

Safety features:

All S5 models come standard with dual front, front side, front knee and side curtain airbags in addition to traction and stability control systems and a tire-pressure monitoring system. Optional on Prestige-trim models is Audi side assist, which monitors blind spots and fast-approaching vehicles.
