Full Review

The 2015 Ram 2500 is a full-size heavy-duty truck manufactured by Chrysler Group. This vehicle remains a top contender in a very tough segment. Pickup trucks used to be mere heavy-labour assistants, today’s expectation are much higher. A modern pickup must also deliver luxury-like features, sophisticated technology and acceptable comfort. Even with all these expectations, the Ram 2500 is still a considerably good vehicle and, despite some heavy competition, remains one of the best options in the segment. The Ram 2500 was first introduced in the early 1990s and is now in its fourth generation. The most recent overhaul happened in 2009 for the 2010 model year, with the 2015 model being the last one of this generation. The Ram 1500 is available in several different cab and bed configurations, but the real determining factor is the trim level. There are six main trim levels: Tradesman, SLT, Power Wagon, Laramie and Longhorn. Each comes with drastically different features and options.

The Ram 2500 has put an emphasis on distinct style for many years and none of that has changed even as this vehicle ages. The look continues to evolve in order to stay relevant, bringing with it updated style and features. The Ram 2500 is a large and dominating vehicle. It can be difficult to park in tight spaces, so if you plan to put this beast in a garage, make sure you measure it first. While the Ram 1500 boasts a standard pickup-truck shape, it’s a little more aerodynamic than the norm. The 2500 differentiates itself from the 1500 with its larger grille, taller hood with stamped louvers and large chrome and black bumpers. The rear taillamps come with LED lighting, as do the side-marker lights. Some trims also come equipped with dual exhausts.

The cabin of the Ram 2500 is an example of the need for pickups to deliver more than just capability nowadays. This interior was recently reworked to add more high-quality materials and tech features. Since there are so many trim levels to choose from, there are also different levels of finish. The base Trademark is simple, while the top-notch Longhorn is downright luxurious. Buyers can really have it all in the Ram 2500 – it just depends on what they are looking for. The amount of space is very dependent on the chosen cabin style and trim level, but generally speaking, the Ram 2500 is relatively comfortable and spacious.

The technology features on the Ram 2500 help to make controlling potentially confusing functions pretty easy. There are two touchscreen interfaces available in the Ram. One is five inches and the other is 8.4 inches. Upgrades to this system have made it more user-friendly and visually appealing. The touchscreens display Chrysler’s UConnect infotainment system, which controls all of the information, such as the available navigation system, Bluetooth audio connectivity and other functions. Different packages can make technology quite sophisticated, and stand-alone features include a DVD player for front and rear passengers and satellite radio. The UConnect system has been praised as one of the most user-friendly in the pickup segment.

There are a few different powertrain options available on the Ram 2500, depending on the trim style selected. The standard 5.7-litre Hemi V8 generates 383 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. It comes paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and either rear-wheel or part-time four-wheel drive. There are also two optional engines available for the 2500. The first one is a 6.4-litre V8 that generates 410 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque. The other is a 6.7-litre turbocharged diesel six-cylinder that makes a maximum of 370 horsepower and 800 pound feet of torque. This version is available with a manual transmission, but the top numbers come with the automatic.

Overall, the 2015 Ram 2500 offers plenty of neat heavy-duty features and capabilities. This vehicle may have some tough competition, but here is nothing holding it back from being your number one choice if you need a labour-intensive four-wheel companion.
