Full Review

The Nissan Rogue was redesigned last year, so it mostly carries over unchanged into 2015. This is a midsize SUV is both functional and stylish, which is a great blend that allows this vehicle to stand out among its competitors. The previous version of the Rogue is still available as the Rogue Select, but the new version is an altogether better vehicle. The Rogue was first added to the Nissan lineup in 2008 and has played an important role in one of the most competitive classes out there. The Rogue has undergone only one overhaul, landing it in its current second generation.

It also has some great qualities, such as class-leading fuel efficiency and versatile seating with an optional third row. This crossover is available in three different trim levels; S, SV and SL, all readily available to suit the needs of different buyers.

The exterior design of the Nissan Rogue is handsome and sleek. The redesign has allowed the Rogue to appear with the right proportions and an overall mature look. The grille has been toned down to a set of chrome bars that are now signature to Nissan. There are now LED running lamps and more sculpted fenders and sides. This vehicle steps up the design game, but in a sensible and classy way. The trim level selected will alter the standard features that come with the Nissan Rogue, but the standard S gets 17-inch steel wheels, LED running lights and keyless entry. Moving up in trims will add fog lights, larger wheels, a power liftgate, roof rails and more. The Rogue has the versatility to be configured with many different packages to improve function and form.

The interior of the Nissan Rogue is one of the best features on this vehicle. There are soft-touch and high-quality materials to be found throughout the cabin. The dashboard has an elegant look and layout that improve the functionality of this vehicle. The controls are well laid-out and very simple to use. Although the design is nothing to write home about, there is beauty in the simplicity. The front seats come from Nissan’s NASA-inspired “zero gravity” technology and are definitely comfortable. The second row is also a comfortable space, but the third row is best for suited for small children. Thanks to the versatility of the second row there are 18 different cargo-carrying configurations available on the Rogue. With the third row in use, however, cargo capacity tops out at a mere 9.4 cubic feet.

On the Nissan Rogue, the most sophisticated technology features come in the top-level trim, although there is decent equipment in the lower trims as well. The base S comes with a five-inch colour infotainment display, Bluetooth audio and phone connectivity, a four-speaker sound system with a CD player and iPod/USB interface. There is also a standard rearview camera to help with rear-window visibility. The best available system on this vehicle is the NissanConnect infotainment system where all of the functions are displayed on a seven-inch display screen. Other features include the available 360-degree parking camera, a navigation system and eight-speaker audio system.

The Nissan Rogue comes with one capable engine that gets class-leading fuel mileage. It’s a 2.5-litre four-cylinder that produces 170 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired with a CVT transmission and front-wheel drive, although all-wheel drive is optional. The estimated fuel economy on both the FWD and AWD configurations is 8.4 litres per 100 kilometres city and highway combined.

Overall, the 2015 Nissan Rogue has become a standout in a very competitive class. The blend of efficiency, quality and style are all clearly on display here, and the versatility is just the cherry on top.

Power and Performance:

Every 2015 Nissan Rogue comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 170 hp and 175 pound-feet of torque. A CVT is standard, as is front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is optional. In Edmunds testing, a Rogue SL AWD hit 60 mph in 9.0 seconds. That's about average for a compact crossover with the base engine.

Interiors and Special Features:

One of the Rogue's key strengths is its interior. There are lots of soft-touch materials, generously padded armrests and a mature, almost elegant dashboard layout. As on the Altima sedan, Nissan says the Rogue's front seats are a NASA-inspired "zero gravity" design, and yes, they're quite comfortable (though front legroom may be insufficient for taller drivers).

Safety features:

The Rogue comes standard with stability and traction control, four-wheel antilock disc brakes, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags (for all three rows when equipped), a rearview camera and hill-start assist. The all-wheel-drive system adds hill descent control.
