Quick Look

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe is a sleek and stylish car that may have onlookers taking a second look at its badging. The Genesis is a bold move for Hyundai, and although it has struggled in the past to really find an identity, the 2015 model adds some upgrades to make this vehicle more focused.

Full Review

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe has had somewhat of an identity crisis since its launch six years ago. There were two different engine options – a turbo four-cylinder and V6, neither of which landed squarely where they were intended to. For 2015, the Genesis Coupe has abandoned its 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder and committed entirely to the V6. This is a great decision as now the Genesis Coupe can focus on one segment and work on making a solid impression within it. The Genesis Coupe is available in three different trims for 2015, dropping the Grand Touring trim and leaving the 3.8 with a Premium Package, 3.8 R-Spec and 3.8 GT.

The Genesis Coupe had a refresh in 2013 that upgraded its power, performance, exterior details and interior. This year, there is not much tweaking that was required with the exception of the powertrain change. The Genesis Coupe is first and foremost a rear-wheel-drive sports car, but it also has an impressive cabin that is a pretty nice spot to spend time in. Despite the increase in price, the Genesis Coupe has identified itself a premium vehicle, offering very good value overall.

The Hyundai Genesis is a very sleek and stylish car. The styling is very bold and many may have to take a second glance to see who is responsible for building this beautiful-looking machine. The Genesis Coupe has established its styling over the years to reflect its intentions as a rear-drive sports car. From its fastback body to the rear-drive proportions, the Genesis Coupe has a very unique two-door style. If you were to line the Genesis up beside some of its siblings, like the Elantra or Sonata, it is not difficult to spot the similarities. This car is defined by its sporty cues, such as the blacked-out grille, running lamps and fog lamps. The aggressive nature of this car is visualized through the wide front end and dual-intake hood. No matter what trim you opt for, the Genesis Coupe still maintains an upscale look with its LED running lights. Standard features in the base model include 18-inch alloy wheels, while moving up trim levels will get you 19-inchers. The sporty Genesis Coupe has finally established a home for itself and now it’s time to look the part.

The cabin of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe follows suit with the exterior design as a sleek, sexy and even comfortable place to be in. The interior is cockpit-like and features a hooded gauge cluster, a neat centre stack, soft touch materials and piano-black finish. These details help to keep the cabin upscale and add more comfort. The front seats are very supportive for spirited driving, but also comfortable enough for longer drives. The rear seats are strictly for kids or cargo as there is simply not enough headroom or legroom for adults. The cargo space is pretty useful, however, at ten cubic feet.

The technology features on the standard Hyundai Genesis include Bluetooth phone and audio, an iPod/USB interface and a trip computer. Moving up to an upper-level trim will buy you a seven-inch display screen that includes a Blue Link suite of services such as navigation and Hyundai Assurance Connected Car telematics. Other tech features include HD Radio, XM NavTraffic and integrated audio and climate controls.

Under the hood of the Hyundai Genesis is the newly-solo drivetrain. The 3.8-litre direct-injected V6 engine can produce 348 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. It can be paired with a six-speed manual transmission or Hyundai’s own eight-speed automatic transmission, which includes paddle-shifters.

In the end, the 2015 Hyundai Genesis Coupe is a sport car that offers good value to its owners. It has finally established itself in a particular segment that it should perform well in once the market is able to finally get a feel for this tweaked new coupe.

Safety features:
