Quick Look

The 2015 Dodge Challenger may not be the launch of an all-new generation, but it has just gotten a significant refresh in style and power. This full-size powerhouse car can play several different roles with the configuration options, but one thing is clear – this is one powerful vehicle.

Full Review

The Dodge Challenger has been a favourite for muscle-car lovers for many decades now. It was first introduced in 1958 and is currently in its third generation. For 2015, the Challenger has undergone a significant overhaul and has come out with an updated exterior, remodeled interior and the most powerful engine to be dropped in a modern muscle-car. The Challenger is available with a wide array of trim lines and body styles that really determine the level of muscle inside this beast. There is no doubt that the 2015 redesign has launched the Challenger to the top spot of a very competitive segment, facing off against the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. Whether you are hauling around passengers comfortably or putting the 707- horsepower powertrain to the test, the Challenger is not only a versatile but also a refined vehicle to do so in.

The exterior look of the Challenger gets a few notable tweaks to help keep things interesting, but nothing that will make this vehicle unrecognizable. The Challenger is a muscle car right down to the shell, and the exterior design will not let onlookers forget this. The beast gets front- and rear-end revisions that give it a look reminiscent of the classic 1971 Challenger. The new headlights are positioned inside the redesigned vertically-split grille, while the newly-LED taillights are also styled in a way that throws us back to the glory years. The performance-oriented SRT models get a cold-air intake on the hood and the Hellcat gets even more performance gear with the removal of two headlights and addition of a ram-air intake. The Challenger is defined by its old-school characteristics, including a long nose, flat sheet metal, small windows and a tall behind, which, when combined together, highlight the car’s macho vibe.

The cabin of the Challenger is where the significant changes have really taken place for the 2015 model. It’s had a historically boring and, dare we say, cheap-looking interior. There was never really anything that stood out design-wise, but the refresh has changed that. Dodge has carried through the commitment to the retro look and did so in a very refined way for the interior. The dash gets a complete overhaul and incorporates an 8.4-inch display screen that has been enjoyed in the Charger and other Chrysler and Dodge vehicles. The gauge cluster gets retro design that works well with modern details like the sharp display screen. In terms of space, the Challenger has a lot of it. This car can comfortably fit two passengers in the spacious front and three passengers in the back, which is a claim no other muscle car can make. Even the trunk space on the Challenger beats out the majority of midsize sedans at 16 cubic feet for carrying cargo.

As for technology, the Challenger finally steps into the 21st century by adding the much-anticipated 8.4-inch screen for all your information and technology display purposes. This infotainment system, called Uconnect, is touchscreen-capable and takes care of audio, Bluetooth and navigation functions.

Some additional safety technology is also available in the 2015 model, such as forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross traffic detection and adaptive cruise control.

The Dodge Challenger is considered a pony car for a reason and that reason is under the hood.

The standard engine is a 3.6-litre V6 that produces 305 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque, being paired an eight-speed automatic transmission. When it comes to the V8s, there is a 5.7-litre Hemi that produces 372 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque or a 6.4-litre Hemi that can produce 485 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque. Both of these come standard with a six-speed manual transmission, but an eight-speed automatic is available as well. The SRT Hellcat gets the best of it, which comes with a supercharged 6.4-litre Hemi V8 that can produce 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque – the best number in the muscle-car segment so far.

Overall, the 2015 Dodge Challenger has made some instrumental changes this year, which make it more attractive than ever before. This car can be configured to fit the needs of most muscle-car seekers, and with a Hellcat engine, it is almost impossible for the competition to challenge the Challenger.

Power and Performance:

The Challenger continues with a standard 305-hp V6 and two optional V8 engines. The smaller V8 (5.7-liter Hemi) delivers 375 hp and up to 410 pound-feet of low-end torque, while a revised 6.4-liter extracts an additional 15 hp for a total of 485 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque. Dodge says the latter engine can launch the new Challenger from zero to 60 in about 4.5 seconds. The eight-speed automatic is the only available transmission on V6 models, while V8s come standard with a six-speed manual. The eight-speed is optional with the V8 and we think it's worth it.

Interiors and Special Features:

The 2015 Dodge Challenger finally gets the interior upgrade it has needed for years. The all-new dash incorporates the same 8.4-inch screen that we've enjoyed in the Dodge Charger and other Dodge and Chrysler vehicles. The retro-style gauges look fantastic, and there's another sharp-display TFT screen nestled between the two. Luckily, all the good stuff is still there, too. There's plenty of room in front for two, and the rear seat can accommodate three passengers, the only muscle car capable of making that claim. The trunk is surprisingly large and useful, despite a pretty high liftover.

Safety features:

Scattered throughout the Challenger's eight different trim levels and options sheet will be new safety and technology features, including forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic detection. Steering, throttle and transmission settings can also be customized to taste within the Challenger's Uconnect touchscreen system. The new Challenger finally gets the 8.4-inch touchscreen navigation and multimedia interface found in current Charger and Jeep models.
