Quick Look

The 2015 Buick LaCrosse is just as stylish and luxurious as the last year’s model. In other words, the new sedan doesn’t offer too many changes, but that’s not a bad thing at all – because the redesign from last year is still fresh and attractive this year. Young car buyers are bound to take notice of this beaut.

Full Review

The 2015 Buick LaCrosse aims to attract a younger audience, which means that it’s more stylish, responsive and almost sporty. Unlike the Buicks of old, the modern variants are more upscale and up-market, so don’t expect this thing to attract your grandpa. Buicks have reinvented themselves.

On the outside, the Buick LaCrosse looks the same as the last year’s model, which was the first one to sport this modern look. There’s definitely more road presence to it thanks to a sculpted hood, hefty grille and sharp headlights. Thanks to those changes, this sedan now looks more purposeful and expensive. The backside isn’t doing worse off either, which received an update last year as well. Things that are likely to jump at you as soon as you set your eyes upon this vehicle are active shutters on the lower grille, which improve aerodynamics at speed, along with optional articulating bi-xenon HID lights that help you see around corners in the dark. So, ogle away at this beaut, because it’s worth your admiration.

On the inside, the 2015 LaCrosse has received a host of updates last year as well, which improved the look and function of just about everything. Buick has made no changes for 2015, which means that it’s just as comfortable, quiet and spacious as the last year’s outing. You’ll find here multi-adjustable front seats, which are comfortable for short trips and long journeys alike, while being covered in leather in all trims except the basic one. The back seats offer quite a bit of headroom and legroom, which is always welcome in a sedan. Meanwhile, the trunk is decently-sized, but in all fairness – it could be bigger. If you opt for the four-cylinder model, its eAssist battery pack will compromise cargo space, so be ready for that!

Under the hood, the Buick LaCrosse can have one out of two powertrains. One is the aforementioned eAssist four-cylinder engine, combined with a small electric motor/generator, to give the car a power boost and regenerative braking. You’ll find it on the base and Leather models. There’s also the 3.6-litre Flex-Fuel-capable V6 engine, which produces 304 horsepower, and can be added at no extra cost on those models, while being the only powertrain available on the Premium I and Premium II models. However, if you get the V6, you can also have all-wheel drive on the Leather and Premium I models. All the engines across all trims rely on General Motors' new six-speed automatic transmissions. The choice between the two engines will depend entirely on what you want out of it. The V6 give you extra power and trunk space, while the four-cylinder is more about fuel economy.

Overall, the 2015 Buick LaCrosse is quite a treat. Its trunk space could use a bit more space, but it’s not a big issue. With this car, you get luxury, power and fuel efficiency in one neat package – all for a price of $35,945. Not bad at all.

Power and Performance:

There are two drivetrains available in the 2015 LaCrosse. One is focused on the brand's reputation for smooth sailing and highway cruising, while the other gets the most out of each gallon of gas in the tank.

The LaCrosse is no performance car, but it does handle the curves better than its predecessors. Its electric power steering has a better sense of stability and on-center tracking than some of the brand-new large sedans we've driven this year. And in Touring guise, with the optional magnetic adjustable suspension (and included V-rated performance tires and variable-effort power steering), the LaCrosse gains a more responsive feel that doesn't come at the expense of ride quality.

For those who want an experience that's closer to that of a traditional luxury car or a traditional Buick, a 304-hp, 3.6-liter V-6 is available. Mileage dips significantly, but it's strong and smooth, with plenty of reserves for passing--which perhaps makes it the best choice for those who plan to carry a full load on highway trips. There's also an all-wheel-drive option, engineered by Haldex, that can shuffle some power to the rear wheels when the fronts lose traction.
