Quick Look

The Audi TT is awaiting a 2016 refresh, but that does not take away from the 2015 model. Without many changes to speak of, the TT is a fun-to-drive, unique car that has plenty of style, making it a great option in the compact-sports-luxury class.

Full Review

The 2015 Audi TT remains mostly unchanged this year, as it will get a complete overhaul into a new generation for the 2016 model. But, don’t let that deter you from checking out this car. Without a doubt, the TT remains a great option for buyers looking for a distinct, stylish and fun-to-drive roadster. Available as both a coupe and a convertible, the options are endless here.

The TT has a solid 16-year history with Audi, being continuously tweaked to keep up with the times. This little two or four seater offers its buyers enough sportiness to be considered a “driver’s car,” but also enough functionality to make it perfect for everyday driving.

The exterior look of the Audi TT is very distinct. When out on the road, there is no mistaking what this little whip is and, more importantly, who built it. Audi craftsmanship is in full effect with the TT, thanks to its fun and unique styling. The roofline is a striking visual feature with its drastic curvature on the coupe. The convertible gets a multi-layer soft-top roof that folds neatly (in just 15 seconds) into the rear for top-down driving. The use of aluminum is plentiful on this car, which helps keep the weight of the car down and drivability up. A retractable rear spoiler that automatically retracts is a cool touch that highlights the sportiness of this roadster.

The cabin of the Audi TT differs depending on which model you get. The coupe claims to be a four-passenger vehicle, but the back seat is essentially useless unless used for small children. The seats are better off folded down for the added cargo space and added functionality. The convertible is a two seater at heart, and the seats provide comfort and support for long trips or spirited driving. As for the styling of the interior, there is no surprise here. Audi has made a name for itself creating the most beautiful cabins in any segment they compete in. The materials that are used are top-of-the-line and the build quality is impeccable. Not only does it look good, but buttons and control knobs are well-laid out and quite easy to operate.

As for technology, the TT gets Audi’s own Multi Media Interface (MMI) infotainment system. Standard inclusions are Bluetooth capability, satellite radio and option navigation. The only real complaint here would be that the navigation system has a dash-mounted control knob that can be awkward to use at times. The TT gets a pretty great standard audio capability too, thanks to its 12-speaker Bose surround-sound system.

A great feature for the convertible version is the soft-top roof. While it may not be as flashy as some of the competition’s hard-top options, the soft-top is a lot more functional. When down, the roof stores perfectly into the rear of the vehicle without compromising 8.8 cubic feet of its cargo space. The multilayers also do a great job of silencing any road noise or other exterior elements. This car was built for drop-top cruising.

Both the coupe and convertible come with one standard powertrain. The TT gets a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that generates 211 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission and all-wheel drive are both standard.

Overall, the TT roadster is a great little whip for those looking for a fun-to-drive car. Of course, the passenger space is limited here, but if you don’t have many (or any) people to drive around, then the TT is a car to check out.

Power and Performance:

Coupe and convertible versions of the 2015 Audi TT sport a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 211 hp and 258 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission and all-wheel drive are both standard. Audi estimates the TT will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds for the coupe and 5.6 seconds for the heavier convertible. EPA fuel economy estimates for both are respectable at 26 mpg combined (22 city/31 highway).

Interiors and Special Features:

Like other Audis, the 2015 TT offers a handsome interior done up in high-quality materials. In general, gauges and controls are well laid out and straightforward to operate. The one exception is the optional navigation system's dash-mounted control knob, a placement that makes it awkward to use.

Front seats are comfortable, and the prominent side bolsters and simulated suede inserts offer good support during enthusiastic driving. The coupe's rear seats are effectively useless for passengers, though they make a fine place to stash briefcases or handbags. The convertible's soft top might not be as slick as the retractable hardtops on some competitors, but it's lighter, less complex and hard to find fault with a multilayer lid that does a flawless job of sealing out the elements. It also stows in about 15 seconds when it's time for some open-air motoring.

Models equipped with the optional navigation system also have rear parking sensors. A rearview camera is not available.
