Full Review

The 2015 Audi S6, the more powerful variant of the popular A6, is a performance-oriented sedan that is wrapped in a nice exterior and full of amazing interior details. It has been around since the early ‘90s and is now in its fourth generation after a 2012 redesign. The S6 remains unchanged for the 2015 model year, which to us is quite all right. This mid-size luxury sedan is in a tough segment, competing against cars like the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, but Audi manages to hold its own in the segment admirably. Buyers looking for a powerful car that still offers a high level of practicality will be amped to put foot to pedal in the S6.

The exterior design of the 2015 S6 is sleek and simple. Audi has definitely gone more dramatic with other models such as the A7, but the S6 carries a similar understated design in respect to the A6. That’s not to say this car doesn’t look good. It is a handsome car that has a sweptback rear-biased sporty design that looks great, but unfortunately does sacrifice a bit of interior space. The front end is decorated with Audi’s signature grille and the four-circle badging to highlight the Quattro power. Eighteen-inch wheels and crisp LED lights are the perfect combination that complements the modern look of the S6. The lower-body aero aids and unique face help distinguish the S6 from its A6 sibling, giving it the powerful look that drivers will expect from a beast like this.

Moving into the cabin of the S6, drivers are treated to the impeccable build quality and attention to detail that Audi owners have come to expect. The interior of the Audi is a true standout in the segment, and features the finest details possible. A blend of refinement, functionality and style are what set this cabin apart from its rivals. The dash and console of the S6 can look a little busy, but it is relatively easy to navigate, while all the knobs and controls are intelligently placed. The cabin of the S6 is very spacious, and most passengers will feel comfortable in any seat. Legroom and headroom are ample in the front, but due to the sloping roofline, rear headspace is a bit compromised. Cargo space is also generous at a 19-cubic foot capacity. As far as technology features go, the S6 is available with a plethora of features that function seamlessly and are relatively easy to use.

Amongst some of these features are Audi’s Multi Media Interface (MMI) that displays all of the cars multimedia functions, including navigation, audio, Bluetooth and more. This system has been tweaked over the years to provide a relatively user-friendly experience. There is a mix of knobs and buttons that make navigating through the system a breeze, and welcomed short cuts have also been added. The S6 also features the Audi Connect Internet suite, which adds Google Earth to the navigation system, and turns the car into a 3G wireless hotspot among other things. As far as driving technologies go, we’re big fans of the stop-and-go cruise control. As a result, all the driver has to do is stay alert and steer, while the car does the rest, including slowing down and speeding up in accordance with the flow of traffic.

Under the hood of the S6 is where the real attraction comes from. This sport-luxury sedan comes standard with all-wheel-drive and is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine that generates 420 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. The standard transmission is a seven-speed automated manual (Audi’s S tronic). The S6 also has an exceptional balance of power and efficiency. This car will blast from 0-97 km/h in 4.5 seconds, but also manages a combined fuel economy of 11.6 liters per 100 kilometers.

Overall, the S6 is a beast disguised as a beauty. This car has all of the power you would want with all the fixings to make it a luxury to drive on any given day.

Interiors and Special Features:

In keeping with Audi tradition, the 2015 Audi S6 has one of the nicest cabins in its class, highlighted by a handsome dashboard layout, top-notch materials quality and solid fit and finish. The standard Multi Media Interface system (MMI) controls entertainment, communication and navigation functions via a dash-mounted pop-up screen and a knob and buttons on the center console. The system boasts logical menus, crisp graphics and a touchpad to increase functionality, although we still prefer BMW's iDrive or Mercedes' COMAND for overall ease of use.
