The 2014 Lexus GS 350 is exactly the kind of vehicle one should expect from a Lexus – good-looking, powerful, comfortable and feature-rich. The most attractive aspect of this mid-size sedan is undoubtedly its in-your-face exterior design that effectively targets the show-off in all of us.
The 2014 Lexus GS 350 is here to take on the likes of the BMW 5-Series, Mercedes-Benz E Class, Audi A6 and Cadillac CTS once more, and it does so admirably. Backed by a powerful engine, comfortable cabin and a plethora of special features, this mid-size sedan is exactly the kind of car any person in search of a status symbol should own.
One look at the exterior is enough to let anyone know that this car is meant to impress people, thanks to its bold style that is sure to turn heads. The biggest draw of this design is the front, which has more or less grown into staple for Lexus in the last few years, offering unique-looking headlights and a grille that protrudes in a distinctive manner. At the back, the nice-looking LED taillights will draw your eye as well, so don’t think that Lexus only cares about its face. The car also comes with 17-inch alloys and 225/50 tires, while the F Sport Package offers 19-inch wheels with 235/40 front and 265/35 rear tires for those who want even more distinction among their peers.
Step inside and you’ll find a cabin that wisely avoids the edgy nature of the car’s exterior design in favour of luxury and high-tech features. The elegantly-shaped instrument panel features Optitron gauges along with a colour Multi-Information Display and an 8.0-inch colour high-definition centre control screen, operated by the second-generation Remote Touch Interface control function. But that’s not all: both front-seat occupants get to sit themselves in 10-way power seats, as LED ambient lighting illuminates the space from the door ornamentation and centre control screen. Other little details include “Lexus” badges on all doorsills and contrast stitching on the upper instrument panel, door panels and other areas.
Under the hood, the new Lexus GS 350 comes with a 3.5-litre V6 engine, which can produce 306 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. The powertrain is paired with dual variable valve timing with intelligence and direct fuel injection. Rear-drive models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while all-wheel drive variants offer a six-speed automatic. The fuel economy isn’t the best, but it does its job. If you’re looking for great fuel efficiency, however, then you should consider getting the GS 450h hybrid model instead.
Overall, the 2014 Lexus GS 350 is a fine automobile that’s more than worthy of the Lexus brand. So, if you have enough cash to spend on a luxury car of this nature, then definitely give this sedan a try.

There's no longer a V-8 option in the GS, but there are more gears in the transmission. Moreover, it's impressive to see what the GS has become: it's now a composed, athletic sport sedan, especially when you look to F Sport models with their extra performance accessories.
Base versions sport electric power steering and an independent, multi-link suspension front and rear. Even here, the GS 350 digs a little more deeply, and extracts a little more from standard 17-inch, 50-series tires than before. Lexus credits a lighter-weight suspension and stiffer body, and we'll also give some kudos to relatively well-executed power steering that makes the base car pleasant to drive, with a more composed ride than it had in years gone by. Luxury models add the adaptive suspension, a pricey option for subtle differences in ride and handling, we think.
It's the progressive steps forward with the adaptive suspension and active steering combined in the F Sport package that set a new benchmark for the brand. Electronic controls for steering and suspension have turned out to be the great equalizer in the luxury-sedan segment: While the German competition struggles in its own ways to elevate electronic driving controls to their high standards of driving feel, the F Sport lifts the GS' game from its former junior-varsity league, making it feel smaller and sharper than ever.
To get there, the F Sport adds on stiffer springs, roll bars and bushings; adaptive shocks; variable-ratio steering; bigger front brakes; and as an option, active rear steering, which can dial in up to 2.0 degrees of steering angle at the rear wheels opposing the fronts, to slice off apexes more neatly, or steer in tandem with the front wheels at high speeds for better stability. Managing it all atop 19-inch wheels and tires, Lexus finally has drilled one home. It's dialed up instantaneous steering response and very tightly damped ride control, with very low tolerance for potholes and bad pavement junctions the price paid for its crisp handling.

Perhaps edgy on the outside, the 2014 Lexus GS is luxury and technology inside. The attractively shaped instrument panel includes analog Optitron gauges with a color Multi-Information Display and an 8.0-inch color high-resolution central control screen that operates with the second-generation Remote Touch Interface (RTI) control function. Both front occupants enjoy 10-way power seats, and LED ambient lighting is integrated into the door ornamentation and the RTI surround area. Nice touches and details abound, from "Lexus"-stamped scuff plates on all doorsills to contrast stitching on the upper instrument panel, door panels and shift boot.

Standard safety features on the 2014 Lexus GS 350 include antilock brakes, traction and stability control, front and rear side-impact airbags, front knee airbags, side curtain airbags and active front head restraints. Safety Connect, a traditional telematics service with automatic collision notification, stolen vehicle locator and emergency assistance button, is also standard. A rearview camera is standard, while front and rear parking sensors are optional.
Adding the optional adaptive cruise control includes a pre-collision system that detects impending collisions and responds by tensioning the seatbelts and activating brake assist.
In Edmunds brake testing, a GS 350 with the F Sport package stopped from 60 mph in a short 112 feet.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the GS 350 the best possible rating of "Good" in the moderate-overlap frontal-offset, side impact and roof strength tests. Its seat and head restraint design was also rated "Good" for whiplash protection in rear impacts.
